Rural Ontario getting screwed yet again.
http://www.torontosun.com/2016/01/13...-read-manually
Well in truth, admitting the screw up.......finally.....and removing them...should actually redress things.......hopefully.
So to me anyways, it's one tiny wee win among so much.
Does beg the question how something so simple could go so wrong. Be it the meters.....overbilling and more...
Whole lotta Hydro One people making a whole lotta money for so much incompetence. Yep, there's no money to be saved or waste in PS.......
In some ways, I'm in favor of the sale....some ways. And the sad truth is the cash is badly needed given things.
On the other hand..........
The proceeds of the sale will be used up by operating expenses not "infrastructure" as she bullsheets everyone into believing. If you have to sell off the tires to make a car payment you are in a death spiral. Once hydro is sold we lose oversite and control of probably the most fundamental asset we used to own and can't survive without. The solution was to fix hydro not sell it at a discount to friends. It would have been cheaper long term to just borrow more right now to cover operating expenses. God help us. How many more years of this cancerous government do we have?
Rock and a hard place Terry.
I try to deal with reality. There are all kinds of things not to like about the sale, not the least of which is the lack of oversight. That said, while private definitely has it's own dark side to...If you had to bet your life savings on something being run efficiently and well by a private company or a public. Which would you bet on......Hydro One is dysfunctional and more...
Its hoped that the sale will raise 8-9billion.
Ok, fine. We halt the sale as you want
Where do you suggest the 8-9billion come from.
The peons?
healthcare...already sucking wind
Any ministry of the province of Ontario that has a powerful Union?
Good Luck
So that leaves the low hanging fruit and peons within PS like the MNR and COs.

You are too generous with your analogy. Selling the tires to make a payment would actually make a bit of sense.
What we are doing is selling the tires to pay for gas.
The real solution for hydro:
Fire everyone.
Shut down the nuke plants.
Contract out line maintenance.
Allow MB, QC an NY utilities to sell direct to Ontario consumers using the existing infrastructure - tack a provincial surcharge on the bill to pay for line maintenance.
Turn hydro one's debt over to the Ontario liberal party.
That can't be any worse than what we have done, it'll be a whole lot cheaper for the province, and it will bring competition to the industry, so it should reduce costs to consumers.
damn hit send before done.
or the bean counters, janitors, or EAs in Education....that get screwed to.
*****
It is what it is.
300 billion debt
9billion deficit
Serious problems to be tackled.
serious problems here and abroad (read the news lately?)
And no-one to blame but this admin and those behind them.
So yeah Terry, theres lots not to like about sale.
Whats the alternative?
your not telling me anything I don't already know Terry. As I said.
On one hand.....
On the other.....
yes or no. priority #1
is cash is it not? Nothing gets better until theres some cash flow.
How do you propose they fix the bridge in Nipigon.
Problably going to cost a good chunk of what it cost to build it. So lets say $25,000,000
Last I checked yesterday Nurses were being laid off because theres no money.
You might say "good, about time PS shared the pain"
What about the peons, or seniors around Windsor who need Nursing?
Yep, actuaries have definitely proven the sales a bad idea. What they didn't do isweigh the cost elsewhere of finding 9billion
By all mean Terry step up and donate more.....
okay, your analogy tops terry's LOL
the only part I disagree with shutting down the nuclear plants.
I think it was Germany (after some Green party got into government) who shut down their plants (which were pretty efficient and very safe at the time), just to import from out of Country (at a higher rate and in that case from fairly scary plants in the Czech Republic and France). They should have learnt the hard way that electricity from really massive wind turbine parks is a complete waste of money. Nonetheless they continue subsidizing 'green' energy on a massive scale; not only turbines, but also huge solar farms (on crop land of course) so they have to buy more produce from out of Country.
If you look at Central Europe, there are lots of lessons for us what not to do
I had a dog once with ten teats and eleven puppies.
Moral of story....sooner or later Wynnochio will run out of teats and be faced with stark reality of doing without.........
Just wanted to add, that yes borrowing more would be cheaper.
Hmm, seems like this admin already has problems with debt, doing things right, managing any money...your freaking out (rightfully) because they want to manage your retirement now to....
Since when has giving a crack addict more crack been a good idea.<<<One problem those who think taxing the rich is the answer.
All we do is give them more $$ to mismanage, more scandals, more bloat
Personally Id rather not see it sold but................
Actually I do. Every year my tax burden increases faster than my disposable income as it does for most working stiffs. I also have to look forward to the looming carbon taxes which will be inflationary again. I also have to look forward to losing 1.9% of my paycheck to fund the coming pension plan I will never benefit from. Who will benefit from this pension plan? The PS will. They won't have to pay into it but will reap the benefits of using the fund to pay for the governments operating expense no matter what she calls it. translation is pay raises and better pensions for them funded by those who don't have pensions. She has already admitted she will use the funds to finance infrastructure which is code for hiring more liberal voting PS.
I think Werner quickly proposed some solutions which are probably more sensible than all the geniuses and consultants we overpay to come up with nothing but invoices for services not useful. And I bet Werner won't even send them a bill....
My accountant has quite a few Hydro employees as clients and he has told me he is flabbergasted at the income these people make.
singing to the choir Terry. :)
I'll lose $1,800 to ORPP over and above everything else.
Wonder if my good friend Gord because he has a social conscious will start contributing to my rrsp ;) I've certainly chipped in a lot to his.
****
That's the problem Terry. If they don't sell Hydro One...or the lands in Pickering they put up for sale last week. Their options are (not lets not split too many hairs).
Tax us more.
Borrow more (Hmmm, Rating agencies are already breathing down their necks) not to mention just more money for them to waste or spend on friends.
****
Harder choice
Start reducing their cost.
lolololololololololololololololol.....
But even if they do find the backdone to start scaling back their cost
That means cuts somewhere.
You really believe there aren't people in PS who aren't peons to?
Of course there are. And most likely do their jobs well. this may blow your mind knowing how I rant about the PS here but most of my closest friends are Provincial civil servants. Doesn't change the fact that on average the PS makes @ 13% more than the private sector for comparable work. That 13% would enable them to contribute those funds into a RRSP and over a career have likely still more than the private sector peons. Government is generally overpaid and should see a real pay freeze for the next 5 years to bring it back into line with what taxpayers have to live with. Never gonna happen. Shut up, pay up and learn to do with less.
Yep (all kinds of friends/family in PS) and the funny thing some/most get it....Shame others don't.
My Aunts FB this aim with respect to soaring food prices (she lives in Rural Ont). on top of hydro, taxes, etc
How am I supposed to survive?? Starve?
But heres another kicker...
Do you have faith in Ms Wynnes ability to do much right? pretty much everything they touch turns to crap, no?
So on what ground does anyone think they could even manage to scale back some properly?
And people wonder why I love their Unions so much, when the bitter pill they should be swallowing is that really, in the end no-one to blame but themselves and their Unions.
I still say..If you cant beat them, then screw them:
Off the grid ideal for me
100+ Acres of woodlot, with couple to “farm” (grow vegies)
<1200 sq foot house (Ranch)
Wood/Water heat
8-10K solar power not grid connected (ground mount adjustable to solar gain)
- 3000W pure inverter
- MPPT controller
- All room disconnect able by switch
Propane stove, Propane dryer (when needed), propane hot water. Back up propane furnace.
Biggest propane tank you can get and pay delivery to you or twice a year…for what you actually use….
All LED lighting
10K diesel generator in out building which double as “barn/storage”. Used only during high draw needs (family/parties) and monthly battery equalization for battery pack.
South situated home, with a stream if possible, swamp land or duck pond.
Land located in township that is not incorporated or little tax base.
comes close to my dream, but until I can afford it, I have to work (and thereafter I might be too old anyway). If you come across an affordable location that meets the above description and where there are employment opportunities (other than the only one gas station within 100km), please let me know...
