In Florida in 2 weeks. Orlando area. Anyone do a hog hunt down there? Thinking I might slip my bow into the truck before I head down.

We are going to Oklahoma for a hog hunt next week. Cost $275.00 per day. Going to be a bow hunt.
Chris, did they advertise in $ CND :)
$275 US is now $400 CND Peso's ...gotten pricey since the days of par.
I have booked a half day hunt with Westshore Outfitters for the 26th. Supposedly one of the best ones for hog hunting - and they are just off Hwy 4, about 30 minutes away from Orlando. Check them out, you may be interested, too. (www.westshoreoutfitters.com)
Good luck,
Las
Instead of going through the hassle and paperwork (& long wait) for taking one of my own rifles across the border and back, I am going to rent a rifle + ammo from them. (It costs an extra USD 50.00, though)
(I was also considering taking my crossbow, but knowing how hardy these animals are, probably even a good crossbow shot would involve tracking in that rather swampy area, with the possibility of a lost animal...)
reminds me of this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nkUXFriIlBE
Hi there.
I hunted with this outfitter 2 years ego.
He provided me with the riffle at no charge.

Hi "gunter", could you tell me/us what you think about your hunt with that outfitter? This will be my first hog hunt in Florida, and I am planning to report my experiences with these guys as well, but also would like to get some more inputs about other outfitters for possible future hunts.
(I am basically looking for NOT "canned" hunts with raised hogs in a fenced compound...)
Thank you in advance!
Las
I arrived around 9 AM, i introdused my self, the guide asked me what type of firearm i would like to use.
He asked me to wait until he gets things organized.
Then he proceded to bring this 4X4 on steroids around the corner, and one hound.
We loaded up on the vehicle and started our drive out to the hunting ground.
We come around one corner and he looks at me and says hog up at dance line, you want that one ?
I loked at the time it was now 11 AM and about 30 degrees and getting hotter.
I said yes i would take him.
Took my shot down he went.
We loaded him up took him to the cleaning station where he cleaned him out and cut him in portions that i asked for.
Packed the cooler and had a great rib dinner that night.
Yes i would go back there.
Make sure you bring a cooler big enough and ice if you are taking the meat.
Thank you for the info, gunter!
I crossed last year with 4 rifles and found the process quite simple. It took about 10 minutes to fill out the form and fax it to ATF. They e-mailed me the permit in pdf form 48 hours later. Printed it and presented it with my passport at the border and crossed with no problem at all. They did not even ask to see the rifles or ammo.
Perhaps others have had different experiences but for the 10 minutes of work on my end it was worth it to have my own rifles.
Species8472, I did not realize you can receive it back that soon. The instruction sheet with the form says that the processing takes 8-10 WEEKS.
So, after reading your post yesterday, I purchased an Alaska SG licence online for $20, printed it out and faxed it with the 2 copiers of the ATF form.
(BTW, the licence DOES NOT have to be from the state where you are going)
Keeping my fingers crossed that it arrives back before I leave for the trip this Saturday... (If not, it is still good for 1 year, so I can use it for a later trip if I decide to go again)
(I will post the ressult, just to let others know as well...).
Thanks again!
There is also a phone number. Try calling them on Thursday afternoon or Friday morning and explaining your situation and they may turn turn it around by the end of the day friday. Good luck.
Thank you for the tip Species 8472.
I did call them a few minutes ago and was told that there is a fairly large backup in the applications right now (being the beginning of the year and everybody applying for their "annual" permit), so there is no way to speed up my individual case - but I should receive the approved form in a few weeks.
(By the way, the officer also told me that their fax number indicated in the instructions for the form does not always work, so if somebody is planning to fax in their application, also try to use 304-616-4551 instead of the indicated -4554 number)
My wife has made it clear she intends to sleep most the time we are away. Think I am going to pack my bow just in case :)

Got to Gracemont Oklahoma at noon today for a hog hunt. Guide Denny took us on a spot and stalk bow hunt. After a couple of close encounters we finnaly conected. It isn't really easy by bow. I'll post pictures when I get back home.
Attachment 31966Here is Brady's Oklahoma hog. We spot and stalk this one.
Thanks species. Brady hunted, with me being an observer. We chased them for 4 hours, they are quite weary when stalked. I would recommend this type of hunt to all!! Place is called "No Mercy Ranch". 2 hours west of Oklahoma City.
there have been sights all over Ontario. I've contacted the mnr and this is the response
Thank you for your inquiry and we apologize for the delay in responding to your email.
Wild boars are not native to North America; however, they are farm-raised for their meat and can escape captivity. Escaped wild boars have high reproductive capacity and are able to survive northern winter conditions, so their numbers can increase quite rapidly. Wild boars pose a challenge in some North American jurisdictions.
In Ontario the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act requires owners to report escaped wild boar to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF). We also ask members of the public to contact their local MNRF district office and report free ranging wild boar sightings.
If owners of escaped wild boar cannot be determined, private landowners can kill free roaming wild boar in protection of property. Property owners or a class agent, as defined under the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act (FWCA), may kill escaped wild boars in protection of property without approval from MNRF. Hunters may kill free roaming escaped wild boars under the authority of a small game hunting licence, however all relevant federal, provincial and municipal legislation (e.g., trespassing, discharge of firearms by-laws, firearm licensing requirements) still apply.
Wild boars may weigh 200 pounds or more and may be aggressive. All wild animals are unpredictable by nature, so the public should avoid contact with these animals. The local police department should be notified if public safety becomes a concern.
