I sure hope so. We have seen enough of the old boys club. I mean what has changed for the better in the last 30 years. Time for a trump change . Dutch
Agreed Dutch. We could use some of that in Canuckastan.
Were no better off with the hair gel kid.
We are worse off yellow dog. The hair gel kid has no KAHOONAS.
I hate to say this, but actually,we're better off with The Shiny Pony. The worst he can do is destroy our credibility on the world stage, reducing Canada back to the piss-ant backwater that it was before the Conservatives. Trump will have his finger on the nuclear launch codes and can destroy continents in seconds. I give him a month before he starts WW3 which will be over be in about an hour.
I agree. You need to take away his personality and focus on what he wants to d. I'm just not sure if he can do it. Not because he can't but there is politics and there is business. Its time government starts getting smart business minded people that will get things done weather it is Trump or some one else. He has definitely opened the way to change the mentality of voters, and they will never be the same. I think unlike most politicians, smart business minded people like Trump will actually try to do what's right instead of whats good for the establishment. I just don't know if America will vote for a guy like Trump at the end of the day when put up against a guy like Sanders who is more balanced and likable. I hope they do, and lets see what happens. He can't do any worse. I know he sounds like an arrogant personality which he is, but don't forget he also knows how to schmooze and do what it takes to make deals. Hes just talking this way now to get peoples attention but in the board room he knows what to do. At the end of the day you need a good balance of politics, where there is a place for, and business. It will take a strong personality that people respect to get it done and lead the way.
I wish Canada had a strong personality to lead this country. Imagine what we could do! This is the best country in the world and we can do alot but our politics suck. We need kevin Oleary for Prime Minister. Lol.
The problem is this country is left leaning. We have Liberals from coast to coast Provincially and now Federally. There is at least 60% of voters who want wishy washy attractive people who can mug for the camera. I got into a discussion with my 22 yr old niece recently nd asked her why she hated Harper. I asked which policy it was that offended her so much? Foreign, domestic, economic? She couldn't answer. I then asked where she got her information to make her opinions from and she also admitted she never reads newspapers or watches the news. In fact she didn't know who her MP or MPP were. She is the typical voter in this country.
It's not just the 20-somethings. I asked the same of people my age who are anti harper and the best they can come up with is they don't like his personality (I then asked if they ever spoke with him) or they don't trust him (I then ask what he has done that cause them not to trust him).
Aside from the young-uns, there are a quite a few people that have a general dislike for any sort of authority - be it their parents, the church or the government - and they don't like harper. So a lot of the anti-harper sentiment has nothing to do with politics, just a huge chunk of the voting block still hung up on not getting along with their fathers.
If he is the Republican rep and goes against Hillary I think he has it. Just a feeling. She won't get military vote and there have been a lot of men and women in uniform recently and their families.
For those of use who do try to educate themselves, Harper had 2 big things going against him in this last election:
1. Harper had already been PM for a decade. Voters are fickle and will give anybody the boot after 10 years, no matter how good a job the leader is doing.
2. Harper was getting weird. Many of those among us who had always voted for him (myself included), were having a hard time swallowing some of his policies and positions during the campaign. During the election one CPC insider shared with me that, even if Harper was re-elected, they figured he had 2-years left tops.
If the Americans give themselves Donald Trump, it will be a repeat of Toronto's Rob Ford experiment, except on a substantially larger and scarier scale.
Somehow,I still think Trump is going to tank after South Carolina and Nevada. Southerners don't suffer fools gladly and the more Trump tries to build himself up by dragging others down makes him look juvenile and silly. I also think that Clinton isn't going to make it,either. FWIW,when you look through all the noise and smoke,my read is Bernie Sanders and Ted Cruz going head to head for the Presidency. With either one,Americans can't lose.
Hillary Clinton is an interesting subject. Supposedly wildly popular, but she finds herself (for the second time) struggling in a nomination campaign that was supposed to be her coronation.
how would have thought a 75 year old Bernie Sanders would be the one to connect with the young voters. he is more of a nut bar than trump
Well let me tell you something - the more I listen to Trump the more I like him - people are just sick and tired with the politicians or so-called establishment - all these jokers are interested in is getting reelected - and living the good life on the taxpayers back - the one thing Trump has for himself is he is smart and will be indebted to no one since he is funding his own campaign - he also throws PC out the window and people love him for that - his latest round with the Pope shows this - most people wouldn't criticize the Pope but Trump took him on when the Pope said certain things about our open southern border - one other thing - war is much more likely if you are weak - building up the military to a point where no one would dare mess with you is the way to stay out of a war - I like the guy - my first choice though is Cruz - then Trump
I have to agree on some of your points. Trump is filthy rich so isn't trying to line his pockets at taxpayer's expense. He likely doesn't owe anybody anything be that big business or unions. That to me has some value. His mouth has no filter but we all know he is just saying what likely half the voters are thinking anyway. The analogy with the Ford factor has some basis but he isn't even on the same page as Ford. Ford had a big heart and truly was anti establishment which is why he even today has support but he was a spoiled rich kid who never really grew up and the media never let up on him. Ford's biggest obstacle was living in Toronto the land of the Libranos and liberal media.
My concerns with Trump is him being too protectionist. His enormous ego when you think about it isn't really out of place when you think about who he will need to go toe to toe with, guys like Putin will treat Trump very differently than imbeciles like Trudough. I'm thinking he will be the candidate but still not convinced he will win the White House?
We said the same about Turdeau and even Wynne's chances of winning......look what happened there !
The fact that Bernie Sanders will be the first Jewish President won't be lost on people, either, and I'm not saying that out of any racial bias. People may see his election as being a bit of a danger being too close to Israel for comfort, politically. Controlling the American financial system is one thing, but, also controlling the White House will certainly set alarm bells off.
Even if trump doesn't win people are going to remember him for years to come ....
Trump with with 32.4% tonight .
