Never been before but may consider it this year.
Same here, might be a neat trip to make.
I've trained with a fellow that has a pair of cockers (black, the right colour even) and he told me that its a blast with them. He said they get into the real nasty stuff that the bigger dogs miss. I'd love to try it out.
I'm likely taking this season off, my dog is recovering very well after TPLO but the Pelee hunt is a lot to ask of him.
He's right. It's not that the pointers miss anything they don't it's that the little flushers get them in the air easier. Some of those fence rows are ancient and like barbed wire so the gunner has to go in and flush while the pointing dog is locked on a picture perfect point 20 yds away grinning..... I will always be a pointing dog guy but the cover at Pelee is best served by cockers and Springers.
Definitely a fun hunt! Speaking of cockers, last time I was there I saw an elderly gentleman with a tiny black cocker and he was cleaning house! Was slowly working a thick covered fence and was putting up roosters one by one ... Loved watching the little guy work hard.
Would go if I could but family obligations and budget will limit me to local hunting for this year. Have fun to all of you that can make it out!

Probably not this year because my Springer will be nursing pups around that time.
I have hunted with Tollers on Pelee and they re a good size for getting through the cover to flush birds.
Planning on doing the clean up hunt again. Wind last year was brutal. We had to work real hard to find birds regardless of what dog we used (our group has 1 pointer, 1 lab and 1 britt). I agree that any dog willing to get into the real dirty cover (especially on the second and third day) will find more birds when it comes to pelee cover.
