We fundraise for CHEO in Ottawa...but CEO makes 2Mil+ a year...WTF, no more. United Way is a joke, Save the Children, Christian Children Fund joke. Admin costs gobble up the money. If you want facts, just google charitable facts for Canada. We support a local church (Barrhaven United) at Christmas, 4 families get together and do a total Christmas for up to 3-4 families (food and presents). The local pastor gives us the requirements; we buy and give back to pastor who distributes to the families. The second thing we do is donate all clothing, toys and whatever the needs are for our local woman’s shelter. These acts have 100% of our donations go to the affected people..period. Help local and build up your community first, they are the people you will make the biggest impacts in return on investments.
Fundraising is an industry where the people that organise the fundraisers are the only ones making money off it.
CRA makes the information available and its up to the donor to make sure his money isn't paying a fundraisers salary, not going where you thought it should. As mentioned above, united way is particularly bad.

I noticed this sort of crap when I went to Haiti for work.
If you want to help a homeless guy get food then go grab a meal and hand it to that homeless guy, if you have to pass it off to 50 people along the way he may get a bite, maybe not.
Charity is a profitable industry for the "Samaritans" that live off it. My guess is these same people are migrating over to the Climate Change religion. Again there won't actually be any impact on climate but it's a really good living these days. Goodwill recently went bankrupt and stung all of its staff. They passed themselves off as a charity but really weren't. The CEO was a disgraced city of Toronto executive. Interestingly most of these barnacles tend to lean left. Then again our PM billed school boards and charities to read prepared speeches while drawing a Federal salary. When I donate I do it locally through the church. When my kids were in grade school I made a point of contributing food to the teacher who fed a couple kids lunch and snacks everyday. Poverty is closer than you think.
The only ones we donate to and trust that have rock-solid reputations above reproach are Canadian Cancer Society,Sick Kids and Shriner's Childrens Hospitals.
