Looking for some friends to hunt with..

As silly and as desperate as I may sound, I'm looking for some friends to go hunting with. I'm a 33 year old female with a passion for the outdoors and this will be my first year hunting.. unfortunately none of my friends share a passion for firearms let a lone hunting.

I have all my credentials and I'm an quick learner and promise not to be a bother, I would just like to learn and get out there with people that enjoy it as much as I know I will.

What area and game would you like to hunt?

Check out Snowwalkers thread in the small game forum re shooting pigeons in the London area. Would be a great opportunity to learn some wingshooting skills and meet fellow hunters.

I've been out with them - great people. Help the farmer and you get to hone the skills.


Edit: they are heading out to the farm this sunday again, i will try to join them.

Have you looked at some of the npca properties.

If you want to hunt deer, do you have any plans for this year or location? Rifle or bow? I got both, but need to hit the archery range.

We should have a sticky for people looking for partners .. hunting partners that is. I'm in the GTA and finding friends to go hunting is challenging as well.

People looking for hunting parners or mentors, or people willing to mentor. Even if a person is new to hunting, and just needs someone to ask questions of.

Many times a mentor can teach things or point out things a new person would never maybe think about till it's too late.

Like ducks land and take off into the wind sure makes sense right. But same said wind can push a dead bird too far out and kill a dog, or push it towards the shore line so you can just walk along and pick them by hand.

I'd normally offer to a person younger, such as yourself, but being 8 hours apart it would be next to impossible. Don't give up though cause we want you younger one's getting involved

Your request isn't silly or desperate at all. Everyone needs help getting started in this past time. This is a great forum to meet people. Some people are more forthcoming than others. Be patient.

I can't help you right now. I don't turkey hunt (have taken the course, tried it, just not my thing). I only shoot yotes when they are a problem for a landowner. Come fall, if you want we could go for a waterfowl hunt if you are interested. Do you have a bow? I mainly bowhunt for deer.

Point taken but she's not necessarily just looking for a place to hunt but people to hunt and share the experience with. Not gonna get that by just pounding the pavement.

My entire point was the differences in responses by the community when a young lady asks for help, actually nothing to do with the content of the request and I posted it light heartedly hence the smiley face, so I think you may not have got the whole point.

With that being said I have taken out several young hunters from this form so I am not trying to offend anyone, rather just state the obvious :)

You should have seen the look of my better half when I told her about the opportunity to help a 33 years old huntress!!!! :mad::mad::mad: Until then I really thought she had a better sense of humor.....;)

My wife doesn't need to be a "hunting widow" in the spring as well.

I am a 25 year old male, who has recently moved to the London area. I completed all of my course work last year just in time to buy a spring turkey tag and never use it (multiple plans fell through).

I went out a couple of nights in August trying to acquire some private land access. I was putting letters in mail boxes and talking to anyone who was out and about.

I plan to take advantage of the multiple public land opportunities in my area (Fingal, Calton Swap, Almyer & Hullet) to get out by myself and try to put some small game on the table.

I have done a lot of reading and I am trying to 'network' with experienced hunters I know through this or that, but have not been too successful.

I have come here to reach out to see if any one may have some area specific advice? Maybe a group I could join, or even a member that wouldn't mind a newbie tagging along on a hunt?

Shoot me a PM and let's see if we can organize a waterfowl hunt at the Hullett if you are interested.

That could work well Dyth. We could all go and I could bring little Miss Yedi now that she can carry her own gun and we'd have a full compliment.

Chenzo I personally think Hullet is a gem of a place. I wish it was closer to me but sadly it isn't. If Dyth is busy I might be able to make the trip over. Although his dog is better. :)

If you were closer, I'd invite you grouse hunting near Minden. I tent it when I go out but I'm sure other occomodations are available if one didn't want to freeze at night :)

Hey bhanley;

Do you typically hunt crown land out that way? I have been trying to put a small game camping trip together with some buddies, but no one is up for trying something new and i am too chicken to go solo.

In my spare time i like to try and scope out some good spots for a camping trip using the CULPA in one window and google earth in the other.

would you have any pointers for a crown land(or not) camping hunt?
