Meeting and getting to know local hunters 2.0

Hey guys,

There was a thread here a couple of years ago about hunters meeting from around the Hamilton, Burlington, Oakville, Stoney Creek, Guelph, London, Niagara falls area and pretty much all of the other hunters in South Western Ontario.

We would like to get this going again since it's always great to meet new people and share experiences. Whether you're a new hunter just starting out or time tested veteran feel free to get involved since we will try to set up meets at places and times that would be convenient to the majority of the group. Activities could include but not limited to group hunts, gun range shoot outs, gun show attendance, and of course a few pints of your favorite beer.

Post below if you'd be interested in participating and getting involved in any way. Let's see gauge the interest and get things going ladies and gentlemen.

There is a DU event in Dunville coming up soon, it's a fish fry and great place to meet up.

I would be interested. But I'm wimpy. Would need it to be within 1/2 hr drive from Hamilton area.

I have the pigeon shooting weekends going, so I will be busy for awhile and will get to meet a few people, that way.:thumbup:

OMG, I just read thru this and realized a bunch of gun toting people are ganging up to take over a private business...woa is me...lol

Silverdale followed by beer and bar food is right down my alley.

As an FYI..........although I am not a huge fan of the Hamilton Gun Club because I am not a trap shooter but there is an amazing place just down the road called SBB (Suck Bang Blow).......I kid you not. A biker bar with some of the best food I have ever tasted!!

What a name for a bar lol. Definitely needs to be considered hahah

Just google mapped it. It's only half an hour from Silverdale too lol

Oakville for me. Silverdale is a bit far for me, but I can recommend the Oakville DU dinner June 8. PM me if you want more details.

I know the Suck, Bang, Blow bar. Used to be called the Redwood Inn. Sorry to dissapoint you oversexed hunters - but it stands for the ignition system of an engine. Suck (intake) Bang (combustion) Blow (exhaust).

How about a simple "meet and greet" beer/wings/etc. in Burlington?

Maybe set up some range/hunting plans from there?

Think HGC might be a problem with their access to members only?

Depending the date and what's going I may be up for it.

Yes this can be just a meet and greet. Silverdale thing is not a must. It was just an idea. Anyone has a date preference?

Brant County, upland hunter mostly USA now, count me in. Why not prepare some of the game harvested last fall, I am sure most of us have some type of meat in the freezer to cook, and choose a location, just an idea.

I think we should start with a meet and greet somewhere esay and central. Im all for a pot luck but i think we should start with something a bit easier to organize

So far we got people from Stoney Creek, Hamilton, Burlinton, Guelph, London and Oakville. So seems like the middle ground would be somewhere around the Hamilton area. I live in Burlington my self and not that familiar with Hamilton yet. Anyone got favorite spots there? I believe there were some recommendations in this thread. I will check it in a second.

Lots of options downtown Burlington (Poacher, Dickens, Queen's Head, Emma's Back Porch, etc.).

If you'd prefer to stay closer to the QEW, there's Shoeless Joe's at Brant Street; Black Bull at Guelph Line; Judge & Jury at Walkers; etc. I could go on..... :)

I often spend time in the Firth & Celtic Pub - previously called Friscos on the Hamilton mountain. North end of Upper James. Easy to get to . In Burlington I have allways been a fan of Emma's Back Porch as K930 indicated.

I have my next couple of weekends pre-planned already. Would meeting during the Turkey season be unrealistic? Given the fact that everyone is waiting for it to happen asap? Best time would probably be after the Turkey season right?

I'm a little east, but I'd be willing to make the drive! Always enjoying meeting people from the forum.

Sounds good, I'm really new to hunting, would love to meet some other local guys. I'm partial to silverdale but I only live 10 min away haha. Meet and greet for a beer would be good too, sometime after turkey season

As long as I can give the other half a bit of notice, I'm pretty much good to meet up whenever.

End of May would work for me and I'm sure everyone else that's Turkey hunting :)

Fish how far east are you?
I'm in Ajax and may be interested if there were more folks from the east and we carpool. Save on gas.

Awesome. It's great to see all the interest. We will definitely set up a meet right after the Turkey season closes. That way a lot of people will have amazing stories to share for sure lol

Started walking along hunting rabbits with my dad when I was four...I am still learning after 46 years.;)
You can learn something everyday when it comes to hunting, fishing, and bushcraft.

I strongly believe if you don'T want to learn about the last, you will never be any good at or enjoy the first two.

I was referring to the fact that they suggested to have a meeting AFTER the season. I was hoping to connect with some people so that i can learn how to call in these damn stubborn turkeys.

Oh I'm in the same boat as you brother. Will probably need to skip this Spring's Turkey hunt due to lack of knowledge and hunting land.

Hopefully may be I could stick with someone who'd be willing to take me out. I'd even be willing to give my Turkey to the mentor as long as I get a chance to learn.

With respet to exerience - the successful hunters go scouting the night befoe - identify where they are nesting and then return bfore dark to call them down. If you put in the time to do this, your chances of success will increase tenfold.

Roper, i hear you. It's hard work that pays off. :)

Never rule out dumb luck.... had my share of those.... :) but wouldn't rely on it for constant success...

I'm definitely interested! Fairly new to hunting myself so lots for me to learn. Mostly concentrated on turkey, yotes and rabbit. This year is my first deer hunting season and hopefully first moose trip to Hurst next fall!

I don't think so. If there is still interest from a few people we could definitely set it up. Especially with the ducks and deer season coming shortly.

Pub/restaurant near the QEW?

QB sports bar or Clancy's are decent spots. Some of my soccer fan friends are often catching TFC games there and we're always satisfied with these two spots. It's just off of QEW and Appleby line

Just released from the Military and relocated to Hamilton, Certainly interested in meetups/hang outs. I am a full time student this coming september but I would like to network with everyone!

Hi everyone,

i'm new to hunting/shooting, in Burlington and need to meet people more experienced than me (ie everyone). I saw page 1 and thought i missed a great opportunity then got to the last post and realized i'm still in luck.

Hope it works out, I'm away Aug 13-20 but will keep an eye on this.

Any local hunters who can pass along some advice/mentoring words are welcome to PM me.

Thank you for your service. I did 30 yrs and got my PAL 1 yr after getting out. It has been great to get back into my boyhood hunts...hurts a little more now in woods. That's the price of the passion I have ignited. P.S. don't start duck hunting...it will ruin your life...lol...

Does anyone know if they have TVs there? I wanted to come watch Canada vs France at Rio Olympics at 6pm.

I'll be there. I was going to be wearing a black oakley hat but my dog ate it and my sunglasses this morning. She has lots of training needed before she is ready to hunt. It was premeditated too...she pulled out my wicker basket drawer thing and targeted my stuff...not cool puppy.

I hope your pup gets better with age lol. I'm sure we will be able to recognize each other regardless

Just listen for the rabbit distress call when I come in. :)

We were there right beside the entrance, and were there until 8:30 p.m.

Hats worn included red Raptors and multicam.

Hey Roper,

I made sure to be seated by the entrance since 5:45 PM since I came to watch Women's Soccer there as well. I was wearing the red Raptors hat the whole time. I'm sorry we missed you. The Judge and Jury pub we were at was on Walker's line and Mainway. Is that where you were? I apologize if we missed you. I'll make sure to leave you my cell number for the next one.
