Ottawa Area Breakfast Members, 17 Sept 2016

Hi Guys and Girls,

Tis the time of year to organize the fall breakfast. Picking a date is always hard but the 17th is between early goose and regular duck hunting season (starts 24 Sept)..but Small Game begins 20 Sept (WMU 61-67). Hence the 17th Date.

Nothing is really open for a hunt after.

Should work, the wife can come too, she will be about 8 months along at that point.

As far as goodies...

If anyone locally is into whittling ..I have a pile of Diamond willow that I have to clean up and can put potential walking sticks aside for pick-up.

I also have lots of young Sumac if you have a food plot and want to plant some for a grove.

edit add: for the younger guys..whittling was what us older guys did with our thumbs before they invented Game Boys..the road to ruin :)

Would like too, but business has me out of the country...next time!

I told the wife, her reaction was "I'm coming!!!", so no changing the date, ha ha.

It was awesome to meet you guys last time. I hope to be able to make it to this if I'm in the area !!! Can't wait for my first duck season!!!

Yup during the week of the 8th (Thur all day in camper if gates are open) . On the weekend I will be resident hunting the 7 flocks/groups on Graham Lake at our trailer park near TinCap (North of Brockville)

Last year was weird, never did see any ducks in our area and the geese were off.

Looks like I will be in Kemptville visiting family looking forward to meeting you guys.

Didn't see much here either and the Geese didn't fly until very late. I do most of my Goose hunting during the week when I get home from work at 5 PM until end, so when day light savings kicks in I am pretty much done.

I have to re-pay the reloading stuff I bought for rifles, I will be sticking with the Lee Load All and Lee Loader for shotgun for a while.

Sept 17th can't come fast enough.

I'll hold off reserving the table for another week or so...no real rush.

If we get to much bigger we may have to look at different location. It can get tight in the Five Star if the table gets to long.

If we do, there is an easy alternate location about 5 minute away. The New Rideau Restaurant, just north of town along the river by the golf course. The have a nice big separate group area, are less busy.

Dove season will be open if anyone knows a good dove field.

Wow, you are right I don't hunt doves and just looked at the Regs and Dove in Southern District is open 8 Sept to 16 Nov. I would be up to the challenge, however...what is there to eat on them. It's like shooting a Bufflehead,,,very little meat I would guess.

Just like a pigeon or a quail, they are pretty good eating but the biggest problem is that you need to use steel shot, so go out and get some #6 or #7 steel shot.

Hi we are relatively new to Ottawa (moved from Edmonton Alberta). Is there room for two more at this breakfast?

I did a quick count and have a total of 16 (some not confirmed but will hold a seat for them. )

So I'll go in tomorrow and book a table under 'OOD" and get that setup for the 17th.

Anyone else wanting to join us, you're more than welcome and we'll make sure you get a seat.

Yup! I will be there. Elk hunt doesn't start for me til 25 Sept.

Reservation for x16 is made for 9:00 for those early birds who want to sit and have a coffee before they order breakfast...

Right now it looks like wife, daughter and me will be there and heading to park after to winterize trailer after breakfast. Should be a fun time.

Early goose is still open until the 18th..

Maybe I bring my Son Logan if he has nothing planned. Can't bring wife you guys might repeat some of the stuff I say.:moose:

The table should be set up for 9:00..it's in 'Mike's' name...I said "OOD" twice but she didn't write it down....:)

What's the total at for numbers now? Looks like I will be able to make it, but if there are more people than seats, I can sit this one out.

Pulling up chairs should've be an issue I don't think? I'm sure tables and seats can be moved around?

Oh yea..the table they set for us is down the middle and there are tables on either side, so no problem..just annoy someone enough that the leave and give us their table :)

Unfortunately I will need to skip this one after all. I hope you guys have a ton of fun!!! See you at the next one

I got there just in time to nab the last seat at the end of the table. Worked out fine as I enjoyed meeting Sarah, Jason, Cynthia, Dan and Goran, as well as Mark and Mike who stopped by near the end of the proceedings to say hello.
