Salmon fishing port hope

This morning me and one of my sons got an invite to head out to Lake Ontario for some salmon. We were out with rods in the water by 5:45. We marked a few fish but not as many as we would have liked but we hoped for the best. Within half an hour...the first rod went off. My son Braden was up....this was his first time ever out in Lake Ontario...and his first time ever with any fish bigger then a 3lb bass....as soon as Braden got the rod in his hand the fish took off on a screaming 300 yard run. Braden was amazed at the power the salmon have!! Braden fought the fish for atleast 10 mins. He said his arms were burning and need some help holding the rod so he could concentrate on reeling! But after a hard fight we seen the first signs of color and soon after had the first salmon of the morning. Braden was very excited to see the size of his fish....

A very respectable 25lb 9 oz fish. The funny thing is Braden was born with spina bifidia and He himself only weighs about 35 lbs. the thumbs up and smile says it all!!!! He is now hooked on salmon fishing. That fish ended up being the only fish we landed today. We lost one more this morning. But the day was a success. I grew up in Cobourg (just East of Port Hope) but only ever fished the creeks never been out fishing on the lake!
