Hunting reading material, entertainment and thanks
Hello Everyone;
I am new to the forum and hunting, but I have been lurking for a while. I bit the bullet and joined recently to try and reach out and find myself a mentor of sorts, be it online or in the field. So far many people have been very welcoming and a couple local to me even willing to reach out; I would like to thank the community for that.
In my pursuit of becoming a hunter, I have found myself constantly needing to 'scratch' the 'itch' to finally get out there and learn first hand. I am constantly 'consuming' different podcasts, certain tv shows and hunting/cooking focused books.
I am worried i am going to run out in the future and was wondering if anyone had some recommendations?
My favorites so far have been:
Podcasts:
The Joe Rogan Experience: Look for ones with guests like Steven Rinella, Remi Warren, Dan Dohtey, Cameron Hanes and that guy from the youtube channel 'knocked on tv'
The meat eater podcast: host Steven Rinella
Hunttalk: host Randy Newberg
they are all american based, but its all great material with good information, stories and ethics mixed in.
Tv Shows:
Meateater: Steven Rinella
Solo Hunter: its a bit of a youtube series for the first season or so
Apex predator: Remi Warren (this one is kind of gimmicky and there is only 1 season, but its cool)
Books:
The complete guide too hunting, butchering and cooking wild game (parts 1 & 2): Steven Rinella
The scavenger's guide to Haute Cusine: Steven Rinella
Meat eater, A tale of an american hunter: Steven Rinella
American Buffalo: Steven Rinella
Cyote America: Dan Flores
Hunt, Gather, Cook: Hank Shaw
There is a bit of a theme there, Anything by Steven Rinella is just so well produced, written and agrees with/shapped my perspective on what hunting is and should be.
Not entirely Hunting related but similar themes:
"The Road" is a great post apocalyptic survival novel
Robinson Cruesoe: A classic, i wish i had to read this in school
Boone: a biography
Eating aliens: about fishing for invasive species
Has anyone else heard of some of these? what are some opinions? Recommendations?
Thanks again everyone,
