joined a new camp this year and everyday one person is responsible to cook lunch (they do a big lunch instead of a dinner) so im looking for ideas for a good dinner type lunch. i think there is 5-8 guys unsure what "appliances" i have.. Ive been told one guy does a deep fried turkey.. there is power at camp so a crock pot is also available to use. im not looking to cook a chili or steak. i will for sure have access to a bbq, and a camp stove.. as there is one in the trailer im taking up.
Pre-make a pasta sauce and freeze it. Thaw it out the day before your lunch. Then all you have to do is re-heat the sauce and cook up the noodles. Quick and easy. Or, make up some good homemade burger patties ahead of time and make throw them on the BBQ and cut up some fresh fixings. A crock pot option would be pulled pork or venison sandwiches.
If you have a crock pot but don't want to do a chilli, a nice hearty stew makes for a good lunch. You could pre cook it, freeze it, then warm it up in the crock pot the day your doing lunch. Would also make clean up a snap.
Do hot roast beef sandwiches on something like po-boy or French bread. Through the roast in the crock pot when you first get up around 4AM and eat at noon. Use the gravy on fries or mashed for a side dish or even poutine.
It can cook while you hunt the morning.
We eat a lot of stew, soups and lunchmeat/cheese for a quick lunch and then do a heavy dinner or supper of burgers, steaks or prime rib with sides at night.
A nice pulled pork sandwich with potato salad and a nice green tossed salad. Can pre cook the pulled pork and reheat in the slow cooker.
I'm with GW. Freeze up a good spaghetti sauce with mushrooms, 2 or 3 loaves of Italian or French bread then boil up the noodles at camp.
Don't forget a dessert even 2 or more store bought pies.
Cabbage rolls are always a hit. Make them in a tin foil roasting pan, freeze and take to the camp.

I did meals for my fishing trips, about 6-10 guys. Burgers and sausage (not hot dogs) is easy and quick with little cleanup. You may want to communicate with the other members to be sure the same meal is not being served everyday. Keep an eye on the food consumption during the meal and throw a an extra burger on as required. I found the cleanup was more work that the food prep so I used paper plates (not styrofoam) to burn in the fire later, maybe thats just me LOL.
We're doing burrito night this year, precooked veggies & meat with re-fried beans (and spices for those who like them) wrapped up and cooked a bit on the skillet.
2-3 containers & 1 pan with utensils to clean up.

I've done a hearty venison burger soup for my camp dinner and it was well-received. I think that the recipe came from an old OOD article but I changed it a bit:Quote:

This year for the moose camp, my meal was burritos. Just grabbed some tortillas, ground beef, taco seasoning, shredded lettuce (I grabbed some bagged salad from the store), shredded cheese (you can pre shred at home), sour cream and salsa. Add a salad if you want so the boys can get some much needed roughage.
Next year I am considering chicken wings. Grab a thing of wings from Costco, boil them up to cook them (in order to keep them moist), after cooking for about an hour you can freeze them, make up a sauce (or buy the sauce at the store) and freeze it, place the wings and sauce in a crock pot and let them warm up. Serve with a salad.
Google "Crock Pot lasagna" for recipes. You can pre-cook the ground meat, and have ready to go. It's a great hearty meal that takes about 20 minutes of prep, and then it just does its thing.
ive never done hunt camp yet but a buddy of mine always buys about 50 lbs of chicken wings. how can you go wrong with that?
