The only edible I find this time of the year are mushrooms. I picked a prime puff ball on my property two weeks ago sliced up what we were going to eat that night and brought the rest of it back to the bush so it could Rot and spread its spoors ( spellcheck) We have a couple of areas they grow every year.
Wild herbs and grapes so far in WMU 65.
Mushrooms are great this year. http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...eb4740d784.jpg

Wild Mint, Oregano, wild grapes, sage. I studied up all last winter on Ontario mushrooms, berries and plants. This year once the gates were open to the crown land I hunt, I started looking. Most of the crown land that I hunt was farmland at one time. When I walk through woods, I find old homesteads, fruit trees, rhubarb, raspberries (might be natural). Many of the fruit trees are old an gnarly and the fruit is well deformed, but the flavors are intense. I never knew a whole world of wild edibles was under my feet since I started hunting 4 yrs ago. I just wish wild basil would grow in the woods, I use a lot of fresh basil when cooking in the field. .
a buddy of mine picked some chicken of the woods. its the first time ive tried it and its pretty good. i had some fried in fish crisp so far, plus i have some frozen in past sauce and frozen after being sauteed in butter, havent tried these yet.
i picked a bunch of wild cranberries from a bog i hunt ducks in a few weeks ago. made homemade cranberry sauce for thanksgiving for the second year in a row.

I haven't done enough reading and research to pick and eat mushrooms comfortably. Puffballs are the only ones I eat so far. Too many have twins or similar looking poisonous ones. Nice to see the pictures.
