Probably one of the best ML weeks I've had in years, love the snow down and the 'crisp' morning hunts. The evening hunts are now afternoon hunts and I'm home in time for supper at 5:00 :)
I've noticed that the deer are no longer eating many apples or much of the corn bait, most of what was put out last week is still there. I noticed this in past years too. They seem to know that their diet needs to change to get ready for the winter ahead.
Lots of deer watching. The does and fawns look good and they're still traveling thru the bush even with lots of coyotes in the area. I haven't seen any signs of predator kills on deer in all the bush we have walked since Nov. so I assume the yotes are still finding lots of small game.
Anyway, so far this week I've had 5 deer in the scope, less than 50 yds, all broadside shots. I love the feel of the adrenaline rush and the heart thumping in the chest when you have done everything right and have them 'dead to rights' and then let off the trigger and watch them walk away.
But it's mid week now and time to look at harvesting some meat for the freezer. Hopefully it will come together after having such good luck so far. But if not, still had a great week out in the bush and to me that is the best part of hunting...the hunt.
