So thinking of a Eastern Ontario Breakfast again at the 5 Star in Kemptville.
Maybe Jan 14 or 15 or another suitable day.
If some people were interested maybe we could do a rabbit hunt afterwards for a few hours.

I have a hair appointment on the 14th....but I guess I can reschedule it, means I'll end up looking like a farmer with my Kamik boots and hair coming out from under my cap....LOL...
Any time, any place....I'll be there...joys of retirement :)
I should be able to make it as I will be a bachelor looking for a meal anyway. Wife will be down south with her sister. I will more than likely be ice fishing instead of bunny hunting that weekend though.
edit: Checked with the boss lady and it is the weekend after that I'm on my own. TBD
We should be good, my wife will be off and we will probably bring the baby along.
Basck to the top and see if there is any6more interest.
Yup I am in, might do sled ride in MB afterwards. NO TRAIL PASS Required if you are hunting of fishing. I am glad they have a MTO rule https://www.ontario.ca/laws/regulation/010185 that exempts hunters and fishers from buying a trail pass. I hunt almost exclusively on Crown.
Can't wait to get stopped by the "trail police"...lol
I will probably come out, but I will confirm closer to the date.
I'm in :) I don't think anything will get in the way this time haha. Can we really go out for Rabbit after? That would be awesome!!
Only applies to Crown Land. You cannot transition (OFHA Trails) from Crown to Private to Crown. In my case it works out perfect.
I thought this post was referencing Kempenfelt bay. I got so excited thinking there was a spot to rabbit hunt around there!
Thought I would bring this back to the top.
I am in, will see you in Jan. Happy New Year

Do we have a confirmed date ?
I will run in and book the table when we are a little closer and have a better idea on numbers.

Oh no. Just got some work scheduled on January 14th. I will see if I can trade someone my shift.
So it looks like just the old Guy's and Fox and I. :)
Is everyone still in?
Also I have some empty 30-06 brass if anyone wants it and also some 12 gauge 3.5 inches shells.

I should be good, but I will confirm next week.
I was just going to post I have a bunch of spare brass as well if anyone is interested. I will get list tonight. Going to bring snow machine and shotgun in case anyone goes for a hunt after.
If anyone has scrap brass again I can bring it down to the gun club, they bring it in for scrap and use it for a fireworks show for the kids in the summer.
Greatwhite, what 3 1/2in stuff do you have?
They had steel shot.
New Hunters this is a great breakfast to meet some of the guy's on the forum and maybe learn wehere some of the crown land is and or ask hunting questions.
Poster child for sure....just not sure if it's for a missing kid or RCMP most wanted :)
1 more week.
Haven't been on in a while and I just saw this post. I'm in if there's room. Might have to bring a couple a kids this time since the wife is gone that week-end.
Sounds like a great meet wish it was closer? 4hrs for me.
Did we ever figure out a time?
Say 9:30 or 10 ish

I reload 30-06, but I already have a ton of brass.
Next week
Anyone interested in rabbit hunting after breakfast?
Nope works for me
I will probably bring my old 20 single.
Thought I would bring this back up to make sure everyone still wanted to meet for breaky in Kmeptvile at the 5 Star.
This coming Saturday, Sept 14 @ 9:30 - 10:00.

I will be coming, but I might arrive a bit late (10:15) because I have to drop my kids off somewhere before I leave. I might be up for some rabbit hunting afterwards, but not 100% sure yet. Just a heads up on that - the hare population seems to be a low in the cycle in the area in question, but it's always nice to get out for a walk in the woods.
Just to confirm..a table for 12 is booked for 9:30-10:00....if we need more they will add an extra table..no problemo...:)
Freebee: I'm doing spring cleaning in my Man Cave...I have about 8 yrs worth of 'Out of Doors' mag to give away....if anyone is interested, let me know.
If there is a big demand, we'll have Arm wresting competition to decide who gets them :)
Mike
I've got some very small quantities of 7-08 (converted from .308) and 243 brass that I have no use for. If anyone wants them, I can bring them. I'll see if there is anything else I want to get rid of.
I use to arm wrestle for beer when I attended Sir Sanford Flemming College in Lindsay. Never lost once and got to drink a lot of free beer. :)
No I will bring 7-08 brass I have no use for them. I accidently loaded up a 308 in 7-08 piece of brass and discovered it too late. So it is loaded round for 308 data, 180 BTSP, with 41gr of Varget or CFE 223, could be H4198, have to check the load data for that batch of 180's gr bullets I made. Too hot for 7-08 (haven't checked)
Have fun tomorrow guys. I wasn't able to get out of my shift!! Hope your rabbit hunt after the breakfast is a success as well! Cheers gentlemen :)
It was nice to see you guys again. Please post with the results of the rabbit hunt! I didn't have time this morning to get my gear together, so I couldn't make it for that portion of the get together.
Just a quick 'Thank You' to all those who came out and to GW for getting the ball rolling and organizing the breakfast. As always a great opportunity to chat 'live' face to face with guys in the area that share the same passions.
and ..how did the Bunny Wabbit shoot go..any luck ?
HAHA..rabbit hunt..chase...miss...scare miss. We got about 60ft off the trail to old range at E7. I was on east side of road and first 3 steps into bush and cottontail took off. 3 shots, no chance. Was just not expecting to see a rabbit that soon. Went up the road to range and GW spooked a big Jack all white that did not bolt, but kinda just hopped across the road. I let one fly at that and missed, that was the first Jack I had seen in 3 years...and missed. We spread out to try and flush him again with no luck. Another 2 km of walking the back trails and stop for a chat or two and seen nothing the rest of the morning/afternoon. GW found a big ole porcupine about 30ft up a tree. I was surprised by the lack of songbirds and even squirrels, plus never seen a single crow. Any time in the bush with good guys is fun, we did a lot of brush stomping. Jason saved the day once we got back to road with a fresh pot of coffee in a thermos. All in all, could have had two if this guy wasn't a bad shot....lol
The white one would have been a varying hare. They are the ones that turn white in the winter. If you also saw a brown one, that would have been a cottontail rabbit, and would have been a good meal - they are much tastier than hares in my opinion. I don't believe that there are jackrabbits in this area.
Glad you guys had fun haha. Couldn't agree more with that as long as you're in good company everything is fun :)
Yep, varying hare, some of them can get pretty big up here, nothing like a European hare in SW Ontario but they make a cottontail look like a baby.
Great seeing everyone again, finally over this flu, maybe I can try for a rabbit hunt soon enough too but Saturday was a bad day for it for us.
Sounds like you guys had fun, hopefully I can make it next time!
Aw, man... I can't believe I missed this. I recently moved to Kemptville. Last breakfast I went to was a long drive for me. Now it's right around the corner.
Next time...
I was wondering why we hadn't heard from you..hopefully we will see you the next time.
Sorry I couldn't make it guys. Glad you all had a great time. Maybe next time. Cheers.
