Thank you for taking the time to send your email regarding the cost of hydro. I value your input, and your concerns are important to me.

Over the past decade, Ontario electricity consumers have helped cover the costs associated with removing dirty coal-fired generation from our electricity system. While the move to cleaner energy has saved more than $4 billion a year in health and other costs associated with smog and pollution from coal, we recognize that the result has been increased costs.

My colleagues in the Ontario government and I have listened to and have heard your concerns. We understand that electricity costs have stretched family budgets.

That is why we introduced legislation that would save families, farms and small businesses eight per cent on their electricity bills. This results in an average savings of about $130 annually or $11 each month. Rural consumers would receive an additional benefit from decreased rural delivery charges. Combined with the eight per cent rebate, eligible rural customers would save $540 a year or $45 each month. And we are proposing to expand the Industrial Conservation Initiative, empowering businesses to shift their consumption away from peak periods and save money.

In addition, we announced on September 27 that our government will suspend large renewable energy procurement, which will save electricity consumers an average of approximately $2.45 per month on their electricity bills.

These measures build on our ongoing commitment to reduce energy bills while maintaining reliability for all consumers. And while we see these as important steps, we recognize there is more we need to look at. Ensuring a clean, reliable and affordable supply of electricity for Ontario families, farms and businesses remains a core responsibility for our government - and a key way to build Ontario up.

Which might be a tank of gas for a small car after Carbon Taxes, or enough food for a family of 4 to cook dinner once.

Odd.... that 4 billion she "stated" in health savings isn't reflected in the health care costs, in fact those are up over the same period she references .

The only good thing about her is that she doesn't plan on breeding anytime soon so we will all be spared from horse faced offspring, thats something positive at least. 11 dollars a month is chump change you can collect pop cans at the road for more money.

I cannot see the savings, delivery rate is the same as our hydro use and the 8% i can not find out what it is calculated on certainly not the price of the hydro.Perhaps if everyone paid the same delivery cost we might see a saving.

14 million pop. uses 83+billion of the combined healthcare cost, 228 billion.

Maybe they use the carbon tax revenue to offset hydro costs.

Last time I looked closely 2014, the cost in Ontario of elect. went from 6.5 cents per kwh in 2003, and rose steadily under liberals to 12.7cents per kwh in 2014. Those costs include 1.5c/kwh delivery and .7c/kwh in the 6.5c/kwh cost, debt retirement charge, prov. tax 8% and regulatory charges are included in the 12.7c/kwh

The liberal mental midgets allowed the Green Energy Act Alliance(a corporate industry lobby group disguised as an activist group) with a business plan of global warming to dupe the liberal dumbazzes into funding their business plan.

The hydo system has been a much bigger mess in most everyway since 2003 under the liberals.

Hydro bills are deliberately designed so most don't understand them. They can then hide all kinds of things in there. She refused to itemize the additional carbon tax increases. You know with Liberals being open and transparent and all. If this government doesn't get kicked next election there is truly no hope left of repairing the damage and I predict massive tax evasion from tax payers. The underground/cash economy will boom.

And the CEO of Hydro one earns?
When I was working at the trade back in the eighties we were installing "scrubbers" on the coal units so they would no longer pollute. The politicians thought it would bring more votes to get ride of coal completely.

The real answer is ... "I had to find the money for the $1.5 Billion dollar Oakville scandal from somewhere ... yes, remember that criminal thing the Liberals did a few years ago. Oh, and now that you guys are actually trying to minimize power consumption ... we still have to make the same profit, so I've just upped the rates. There's a lot more that I'm hiding ... I decided to keep the billing so confusing (with delivery fees) that no one can actually understand what's going on (not even me). But heck as long as the cash keeps coming in, I don't plan on doing much. Hopefully the few pennies I throw back at you will keep you quiet. With Love, Your Premier"

She doesn't think we're all really dumb, she knows some of us are really dumb. There is no other way to logically explain how she can be defended by some people out there.

She won't make Brown look like that. The Working Families Ontario will do that for her.

I always struggle with "blaming the cons". What are they supposed to do? The have had such a strangle lock on politics with the GTA and Unions in their back pockets.

I have said for a long time the only "feasible" option for anyone be it Wynne, Brown or Horwath are subsidies. But they to will come at a cost. Will they take more $$ from healthcare to pay for it. Last I checked we need to be hiring more Nurses, not let letting more go. The MNRF or MoE? last I checked, they to......

If I was at the helm, Id actually raise rates in the larger cities. Millions of people paying a little more, and pass that $$ to everyone in Rural Ontario, for whom life isn't quite as good or "painful" (its more-so) given they don't have cheap Nat Gas, don't get millions for subsidized public transit, don't get near the same amount of $ for economic growth ( Think about $$ used to create jobs, be it Air Canada, be it GM, be it Google, MaRs, be it oh so very much, or even helping to pay for the "sky dome", or Caribana, or the 407).....

If we can afford to subsidize toy cars $15,000 for those who can afford them, even with the subsidy, if we can afford to subsidize public transit and much more. All needed things, but all those things don't benefit everyone...Just those....

Surely, we can afford to subsidize neccissites of life ( Hydro and heat) especially given, its rural Ontario having wind farms rammed down their throats, to feed the beast and bright lights of the cities........And its not as though the big cities don't already reap big benefits, that are paid for by everyone.

Though we know she won't have the stones to call spades spades, do the right thing, and or turn her vote blocks against her anymore than she utterly has to.

Consider this.
Federally, the wealthier provinces help make life a little better for the have nots. aka Transfer payments. While it may not be perfect it "works". All 10 provinces pay taxes relative to their ability. And the wealth gets spread around. In part because those provinces "with the most" also receive a lot in the way of economic growth, job creation, etc.........

But provincially?
its near the opposite, goes the other way. The engines get the most, and it makes sense but............it stops there.

Rick Russell says he's been squeezed into a spot no senior should experience.

Russell’s sign may be unusual but his situation certainly isn't as more seniors find themselves hovering at the poverty line, trying to hang on.

Brockville resident Rick Russell is drawing a lot attention after erecting a large sign on his house saying he's got to choose between heat and home.



His truck is for sale. Now his rented house is back on the market as Rick Russell figures out how his next stage in life will play out. The 68-year-old erected a sign on his house this week saying “"Another senior loses home due to high energy costs”, almost as a warning to others this is what might await them.

Cant say I've "given up" but......

“These are the kinds of stories we are hearing in rural Ontario,” Ontario PC Energy Critic Todd Smith said in Toronto today, “and now we are hearing similar stories in the suburbs as well"

And now that the burbs are finally feeling a wee bit of it, and a fraction of it given rate/delivery charges are cheaper and they have Nat Gas. Theres attention being paid by QP, the media, and lots of noise by poor residents of the burbs who also get/have so much more.....

Don't know what it is, or what it's going to take R. Obviously the insane amount of corruption/waste and usual stuff we see from all (though never this bad) wasn't enough to get people in the city to turf her before it came to this. Obviously the pandering/vote buying seems not to register, true they "all do it" but again, "on this scale" and too the detriment to so many? Imagine a family of 6, and mom/dad ignore 3 children and do everything, pour their limited resources into making sure 1 child is happy, taken care of.....

Was out with a brunch of friends in Oshawa last night for beers. Predictably the topic of Hydro came up. One guy, great guy, no idea what his politics are ( and they don't matter) said "They aren't that bad, I haven't noticed a difference"...And this is a guy that travels throughout the province on business.

So many just "don't care", so busy and wrapped up in their own lives and it won't be until things are so bad, that they are feeling it...But for it to start hurting people in the GTA, where there are lots of jobs, jobs that pay a lot, where so much is subsidized, etc etc....the other 3 that get the crumbs.....

/looks at an electoral map and that one small pocket of red (well 2 really) and a big sea of blue.

Gotta hand it to line052 for stepping up to the plate and actually taking measures and getting involved in the political game rather than complain.

Yeah, far better for the populace to bury their heads in the sand..............................
In fact unless your a member of parliament, don't complain about poachers, the MNR, the dwindling of Moose, gun control etc, either.

This like anything else, cause and effect. There are reasons why there are so many "complaints". Perhaps if more of the populace had listened years ago, or gotten vocal themselves.................

Freedom was hammered out on the anvil of dissent, discussion and debate.

Apathy, the other alternative, is as they say, the devil and perhaps one of the main reasons, things are so bad.

Most are in the dark, don't care, fat dumb and happy, or selfish. It was similar in the States. Finally after the novelty of barry wore off, like turdo/wynne, a few people realized things were getting worse. He, like Jr, had issues with the English language when it came to terrorism and was weak on economy like wynne and disastrous on foreign policy and deal making. Sound familiar?

The guy you mention, like many have severe optical rectitis and are clueless. He is fortunate he has a job and can afford to party at night, many can't.
I had a guy tell me the other day he really had seen no reason to NOT vote for Jr. next time. AND HE WAS FROM OTTAWA. I converted him on the spot and returned him to a sane person.

I was looking yesterday at the price increases at the grocery store due to carbon tax, etc. which, of course is on top of the increase blamed on the US/CAD delta. But hey, we are, you know, dealing with the "real" problems right?

Gas 1.04 in the down season of winter, dread to see the summer price and oil is relatively low/bbl.

People need to wake up, rise up and get behind a candidate other than the Fiberals with money and support. That is how you regime change in a "mobocracy."
