What do you use....for those that do?
Hi zoli 16ga.,
Congratulations on the new gun. You might want to try CGN. I think there are a few 28ga lovers over there.
Good luck
I reload a lot of 12 and 20. I have two manuals that I use, Winchester Shotshell and MEC Shotshell. Both cover steel loading as well, as I load steel. For wildcat shell like my coyote loads in 3" (12 pellets of "0" buck shot, interspersed with #4), I worked a load using IMR 700X at I think 24.3 grs. FPS is 1100fps and is tight out 30 yards in 24" circle with 9 of 12 pellets on paper and most of #4.

Just remember, all parts matter when loading your own shells. The hull (different designs and base makeup to consider), primer, wad, shot, powder and even WAD pressure settings. Make sure you do not mix components in a recipe. If making wildcats, slowly work up a load at your own risk. I have a buddy who had his 8yr old daughter using powder dipper to prime shotshells. She put two dippers in shell and he did not notice. His barrel on his 870 ended up with a 3" long golf ball sized bulge about 4" inches from end, close call. When reloading if in doubt dump it out.

Looking for 28ga. Recipes.
I've been loading 16ga. For a few years now. Thanks for the heads up nonetheless. : )
I just don't want to shoot a couple cases of win aa's if they don't reload well. I have heard to stay clear of the win aa hs hulls...???
From my reading, I was led to believe the AAs have the longest life for reloads with some guys saying up to 10 before they become to cracked and brittle. For a good recipe check out cgn or shotgun world.
cheers
I am reloading the 28ga with Alliant unique powder and win AA hulls with cheddite primers ,claybuster wads.
Thanks trkyhntr, just the info I needed.:goodstuff:
I'm shooting win AA loads for trap in my 28. I can save them for you if you would like as I usually just throw them in the Shell bin at the club. I am in Ancaster and would be willing to hold on to them for you. Still have 250 to miss with if you are interested.
Hey that would be great HJ ! Much appreciated .
I'll pm you my email.
I really need to stop reading all this 28g stuff. I'm starting to open the gun safe and look inside for a bit more space. This is not a good sign.
It's useless to resist terrym!
I'm not good at resisting. Problem is I have 2 really nice 20g that I love. A Merkel SxS 27" Sk/LM and a Citori Feather Ligtning with invecters. The Citori weighs 6.0 lbs and the Merkel is below 6lbs. Someday the right one will materialize and that will be that.
Really terry....your trying to rationalize an upland gun purchase? If you did.....you know we'd all be shooting sixteens! I think your just being selfish, making your other guns stay all alone in the gun safe...tish tish.
I use Win AA hulls, 2/3 oz of shot and IMR 7625 powder. I have three 28 ga. guns....Beretta O/U....Rizzini O/U....Bernadelli SXS. A 28 ga kills game way better than you think it should.....all the pattern hits at once....quite amazing performance.....but you need to keep shots within say 35 yards max.
That's a nice line up.Quote:

You need a semi LOL. I wasn't even shopping for a gun but the Legacy caught my eye and next thing you know I was sneaking another gun into the house. A thing of beauty she is imho and I was able to take a quite a few grouse with her this year, 2 of them were even flying lol.

And she is nice and light and that's good as I love nothing more than a long hike in good grouse country. I was worried about the weight thinking she was too light and wouldn't point and swing well but there is no issue as it is a well balanced gun.

I own a 12g semi for turkey and ducks. I will admit though that I made a point of popping into Epp's and handled those new Sweet 16 autos. I got a bit dizzy but left without it. Already have a nice SxS 16
Attachment 34376Hunter John I Have the same gun as you! Its awesome, first time I handled it I could not beleave how light it was around 5lbs and thought it might not swing well. But then I shouldered it and was hooked, it has perfect balance and swings well. Have taken my share of game with the legacy. Its a keeper.Quote:

That's a nice haul of bunnies Fishhawk, and a beautiful shotgun.
