Debt and deficits: Yep, no surprise. From a very small surplus when they took over to 29b and counting.
Housing: If the GTA and Vancouver are indicators clearly we are short. If the GTA is to absorb 30% of all immigration and the influx of Canadians. "good", the feds can help pay for the much needed housing starts.
"Child care/families": Our birth rate is low, its to encourage people to procreate which Im fine with, but as a single person damn if Im not tired of subsidizing everyone, without really ever seeing help for single parents (this group could really use a cup of coffee).../singles.
"Skills, New Agency: Sounds like an agency filled with ivory tower public servant academics who will do nothing but study after study after study and make lots of money..

CSBs will be phased out as they mature. They aren't popular and I doubt they raise very much at all, so they will just raise whatever amount they happen to be through normal channels
Tax credit:
Mixed thoughts here. On the one hand people who can't afford a lot, and certainly won't like Carbon Taxes, can certainly use the 15% credit on X (which wouldn't be a large sum). On the other hand, who benefits the most?
Well lets look at the GTA and Go Transit.
Well off, white collar people commuting into the GTA who on average spend around $250/month or call it $3,000/year.
1) Across Canada that likely "cost" the feds a fair bit of coin
2) Sorry, but the majority of those people are a lot better off than those who rely on the TTC....and quite likely 70% of the population..
3) Its time people outside big cities, stop subsidizing the lifestyles of big cities. What about those rural people who don't have subsidized public transit......drive pretty far to work, for groceries.....and now paying Carbon Taxes?

I have spent years riding the GO and TTC all over the GTA, a GO train alot of what you see are white collar but there are alot of students, service staff, secretaries etc. anyone that can't afford the parking or a vehicle inside the GTA. The guy pouring the coffee at 2nd cup is alot more likely to be taking the TTC or even the GO than the guy who shows up in the Audi and Mercedes. As for that and the tax credit I would call killing it punitive, the Liberal's excel at this kind of screwing of the low and middle incomes.... Perhaps the majority on the GO probably didn't even know of it or use it but those that needed the money have now lost it. As with the usual Liberal policies they hurt the vulnerable and their supporters and leaders in the Mercedes don't care. We won't see a study by this gov't on how many end up having to move or can't afford things they used to like food and books:
1) Rent and food after losing this credit.
2) kids that aren't in music and arts programs that aren't now.
3) kids in sports that aren't now.
Outside the 9 to 5 crowd a huge portion of the ones I used to ride with (flex hours) were students, staff for services etc. and on the TTC it was even more so. That loss of the credit to the "majority" won't matter, but the Liberals have always excelled at the us and them and I look at that minority that are now out a couple hundred dollars.

If your monthly transit pass costs $100, the amount you can claim in 2008 would be $1,200, resulting in a tax credit of $180.00 (twelve months multiplied by 15%).
$180 to the goof in that Mercedes $500 is paying for your buddies golf game and a few drinks and wouldn't even cover 1 months insurance on that car BUT to the minority that may be food for a couple weeks and have taken 2 days to earn at minimum wage.

I rode the train from Picking to Union. It was $242 a month, not $100. By the time I stepped on the train it was standing room only. Meaning those coming from Ajax, Whitby, Oshawa ( who pay quite a bit more).....Rouge was fairly busy as well, but beyond that ridership falls off dramatically. I Imagine its the same with other lines.
Just checked their site. If I read it right the cost per trip from Oshawa to Union is 10. for the first 35 rides. So lets call it $350/month, or $4,200/year and $630 of their money back, not 180. That is reality.
Likely the same kind of people who no longer get child sport credits, child art credits, child summer camp credits and more.........The "MC" by numerical and statistical definition are couples that make 70k. Think about that.
And the vast majority don't have pensions either..
So I guess the answer is, governments just pile on the debt, and we never pay for it. Harper encouraged people to save with the TFSA and given the numbers it seems to be a real success but the Liberal's don't like people keeping the money they earned, they see it as lost gov't revenue. Harper encouraged specific spending on items like kids sports, arts and music and savings and the Liberals chose to not make kids and saving important and to now even take away the encouragement to take a train instead of driving.
OH and of course GO etc. is subsidized, it is a public system that needs to meet the needs of as many as possible without getting ridiculous. Some of the changes like the all day runs that McGoofy put in are overboard but the expansion of the system will benefit Ontario even if it is at a loss. It is small change for the federal gov't and to put it in perspective how many days of working did someone just loose to the gov't coffers?

We see that more than 1 in 5 using the GO is making less than $30,000, note of course it is a tax credit so they wouldn't be able to use all of it to their benefit probably but if they are using your example of $680 and we take 50% that is still about 2 days wages at the max. 30,000. We also see that 16% or about 1 in 7 that arrived by bus, so that would even more spent on transit. Do you think that cities like London, Windsor etc. that have public transit actually aren't subsidized and shouldn't be?

And with that comes the associated cost of paying for it all.

You might do well to remember that and think about that (and some of the things I've pointed out. You dont have to agree, it's not about proving who is right) in the future. So the GTA is increasing in population and higher property taxes etc and is growing as a tax base ... sounds like it is even more skewed than the Fraser Report indicated and the GTA portion of the taxes supporting Ontario's infrastructure is higher now.
Oh and I found the Oshawa GO/Metrolinx demographics ... seems 39% of the ridership makes less than $30,000 and Justin Trudeau and the Liberals just took a tax credit away from them costing them perhaps $500 to $650 a year. Screwing the poor and middle class and depriving the military ... the Liberal thing to do!
