Conservative Leadership Race
As a card carrying member on the CPC, I will have the opportunity to vote for the leader. I made up a spreadsheet of the various candidates with a list of pros and cons for each, too many cons and they won't get a vote from me. I have had the chance to speak to 4 of the candidates including almost an hour one on one with one candidate. I have a couple of key issues that are important to me, one of which can put a candidate out of the running regardless of any of their other policies.
My key issues are one, a combination of firearms laws and the justice system, how to protect the legitimate firearms owners and punish the real criminals, but most important, the right to proper end of life care and the option to chose to end suffering when there is no possible hope.
For the candidate that I had the most time with, on the topic of the right to die, I believe that he gave me a true and honest answer, and that was that he didn't know. He didn't give me the answer he thought I wanted, he admitted he had no answer. The general Conservative policy is opposed to doctor assisted suicide, but I think that most that have had to watch a loved one suffer before an inevitable death would consider otherwise. I asked the same of others, one was firm in his conviction that there should be no doctor assisted suicide, when I asked why we will end the suffering of our pets, why can't we do the same for our loved ones, his reply was that they are only animals. I can't support anyone with that attitude.
I asked the question of one at an open meeting, typical politician, talked in circles, and never answered my question, so he is off my list.
With this number of candidates it is tough to make a decision, I have my personal opinions, but I also think about who gives the Conservative the best chance of winning the next federal election which means someone that can win Quebec.
So who do you think gives the CPC the best chance to save Canada from the justin?
