That is bloody impressive.
Amazing shot.
The hold over, windage, etc must be a lot. Those that are familiar with this caliber, would probably be able to figure it out. Very impressive. Congratulations.old243
Brilliant!!
wow very impressive congratulations to the shooter
Here's a video of a guy shooting just about the same distance.....the camera zooms out/back to give you an idea of the distance...unbelievable he has a hold over of 90 minutes....
( 1 mil= 3.5 MOA...so a 25.7 mil Holdhover ...or about 40" at 3280 yds....more at 3450 meters)

Big Mac attack.
The sad part, is that it being a JTF2 operator, likely name will not be released, nor published for a good number of years.
BZ troop.
Sent the link to a family member in the US, young guy is a current Special Forces Green Beret, two tours in Afghanistan. His exact quote... "Impressive but still a lazy belly fighter..." LOL... He's probably sooooo jealous!
And rightfully so...record was held by canadian then british now canadian again....I would say maybe americans are just spray and pray full auto fighters whereas canadians are precision take you out 1 shot 1 kill. Only makes sense they needed our help bailing out on Vimy Ridge too...wonder what their excuse was that time...

I guess that you haven't read about " Carlos Hathcock " the greatest sniper during the Vietnam War , he was an American.
That is where the term " one shot one kill " originated.
He had a nickname "white feather " for the feather he wore in his boonie hat.
The Viet Cong had a reward and price on his head, books about him are One Shot One Kill, that is what he also taught at US " Military Sniper Training School " and White Feather, both books are very interesting, he was known to lay in position for up to 3 days to make his kill, [ the ways of a true sniper ].
Just imagine having to relieve yourself into your clothes because you cannot move as you would give away your position, he also did not have a spotter with him, he did it all on his own .
He is the one who shot a counter sniper out to get him, [ the bullet went through the scope of the counter snipers rifle and killed him " confirmed "] they were both aiming at each other, Carlos was just a tad faster.
Carlos's rifle was a Winchester model 70 in 30/06 cal. I cannot remember what the scope was .
Back to the topic.
Such shot necessitates excellent gear/equipment, training, etc…. but will never be possible without an amazing shooter’s skill.
As often is the case, the 2nd is all but forgotten. Snipers know that they are only as good as their spotters and in a case like this one, the shoot required precise calculations from a host of variables that the spotter had to provide to the shooter to make the shot count.
It's a team effort...
And Mulcair says we should not be shooting the bad guys??? And saving the lives of some human shields
Nice record for our 150 th birthday

No he's asking the Liberals to fess up and admit that Canada is still involved in combat missions. ..and rightfully so.
The Liberals won voter support by promising that Canada would only be in a "advise and assist" role in Iraq, so they won't admit publicly that Canada soldiers are still involved in combat rolls. Pretty hard to sell that killing enemy combatants 2.2 mile away is done in self defense..LOL..
Quote:
"In a letter Friday to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Mulcair says the incident "seriously calls into question your government's claim that Canadian forces are not involved in direct combat in Iraq."
Quote:
"Will you now confirm that Canadian troops have engaged in ground combat since your government took office?" he wrote.
"Why have you not declared that the current military operation is now a combat mission? Why has there been no debate in the House of Commons regarding this change of mission?"
Advise and assist is code for tangential military operations(along with the main advising role). Always has been at least in the US to qualify as non combatant definition under US Title 22.
I would imagine it is the same in Canada and that Mulcair is well aware of it. Just another calculated and measured display of false indignation by Mulcair or he really is as dense as I think.
Surely self defense covers ones self and those under your care?
Kudos to Mulcair or anyone who holds Trudopes feet to the fire !!!!
As mentioned above one of the interesting things about Canadian sniper teams is that they are both snipers and capable of switching roles back and forth. Such was the case with the two snipers from the PPCLI who actually obtained their kills just days apart and now hold the number three and four slots for distance records.
.....and i thought I was shyte-hot pegging a beer cap at 200M with my Ruger M77 .270Win. I'll just STFU now,OK? :ashamed:
Predator Drone video or it didn't happen lol.
Rumours are the ammo was Sniper Elite API 756gr 2827 fps @ 24m
That round was 2800ish FPS thru a Tac 50 with a can installed and was confirmed yesterday.
That should provide more ballistic info for those whom may be interested in the flight.
Edit... forgot to mention the maker... General Dynamics.........
Somewhere , we are getting confusing figures, in the original report on the incident, it was reported that it took 10 seconds for the bullet to arrive at the target.
The distance as reported was 3,540 meters which is is equal to 3,871 yards, which is 11, 613 feet in distance, divide this by 2,827 fps equals 4.1078 sec.
I wish that some of those giving and reporting such facts would get their stories straight.
A good NP opinion piece on the topic...and what Angry Tom was striving at :)
good read : http://nationalpost.com/opinion/nati...9-647da3a39025Quote:
Or so the public was told at the time. If the government has amended its policy, it hasn’t said so. Which is what makes this week’s reports of incredible marksmanship by a Canadian commando so interesting. A 3.5 kilometre sniper shot is many things: a tremendous feat of arms, first and foremost. And if it saved the lives of allied troops and innocent civilians, it’s also a blessing. But there are two things it most certainly is not: training assistance or urgent defensive fire.
If Canadian troops are now actively engaging ISIL forces, helping speed the collapse of its odious caliphate, we would be delighted. We opposed the Liberals’ decision to end our combat mission and would welcome a reversal of it. Some media reports claim military sources have told them that Canadian sniper teams are actively involved against ISIL beyond this single sniper incident. If so, good
J it may have stemmed from some reports of US military skeptics interviewed by the media. Regardless I believe it was a good shoot and likely around 7-8 seconds which is "just" under 10 seconds as some media reports.
Many folks are likely using standard assumptions for ammo chronographed at 15 ft for Muzzle velocity as the start. The 50 cal is measured around 78 ft/24m for MV and 100 and 400yds/m for armor piercing specs.
Air resistance/density plays a major role in time of flight and it is why an air density calculation is done before firing. At that distance and time of flight, the earth's movement also has to be calculated and the scope adjusted for.
The A Trag A1 software running on a Recon PDA is one of the tools that is exceptional in returning a firing solution for a 1st hit.
Thanks Mike.
It may be different in Canada although I doubt it. Usually a non combat role for us(US) and maybe our NATO allies is training and calling in air strikes, overwatch(which includes threats to coalition and lethal force defense there of, especially if bombing or Drone strikes are collaterally not acceptable.)
Maybe there is a different "law"/policy in Canada with regards to JTF2.
It just seems naive or dense for Mulcair to be so confused by this IMO. Over watch whether by Mil or Police is by definition a STANO and protective job for all under one's "care".
Anyway thanks for the info and far be it from me to ever defend Jr or Mule cair, although I do side with the spooks in this case.
