Corn Stalk Hunt Success...again!
Went out this morning for a sit...didnt see anything so went to stalk in the corn at 9am. Came up on my target 8pt weve been watching on camera come closer to daylight. Stepped into a hedgerow separating 2 corn fields and spotted him the same time he spotted me. He got up and I froze...waiting around 7-10 mins he wouldnt stop staring at me from 60ish yards away. I took about 5 minutes to move 2.5 feet and slipped into the corn. Walked back 10 or so rows and placed myself downwind of him. Slowly creeping out of the corn he was still standing in the same spot staring down right where I was earlier but now I was directly behind him. As I went to raise my excal into view as he was 25 yards approximately (no time to range him in) he turned broadside and had spotted my movement. TOO LATE!!! Sailed the arrow into his boiler room for a double lung. It was pretty diagonal and the arrow never ended up coming out..tracked him 100 yards and should have waited longer...when I rolled up on him he was still breathing and I had an oppotunity to put one in his neck to help end it faster.then the recovery phase kicked in..luckily my bro came out and helped drag this beast out of the corn.
Shout out to Fratri and Bellerivercrossbowhunter for their recommendations and advice on stalking the corn...this has paid dividends now with taking a doe on Oct 11th and now again this buck Nov 2....thanks for the advice and confidence to try out a new technique!
