Well not what I was hoping for, +9 and rain sucks.....prefer -5 and snow down; not really to much to ask for is it ? ..being Dec and all :)
Hopefully it won't hinder us from making smoke next week.

I echo your assessment for the beginning of this week. The big guys are still holed up and nocturnal. There was movement with the last snow we had but everything is dry and green again. The food pile in my backyard (for entertainment purposes only) is untouched.
Not much daytime activity. Perhaps towards the end of the week things may get better?

I had 4 does in the cross hairs yesterday. One at 15 yards for a few minutes but nothing today.
Still looking for that elusive buck but will fill my doe tag by the weekend if this persists.
Today's weather was far from ideal with the rain and high winds and speaking of hunting safely I abandoned my tree stand due to the rock and roll that was going on. Windy forecast for the rest of the week but cooler temps. Look promising! Got to get the big lads out of the security of the swamps once it freezes over but that may take a while.

Nice temps on Monday but too warm for deer movement. The winds seem to be the biggest problem. I find the deer sitting tight to scrubby bush when the winds are this high. WEdnesday looks cooler and snowier so let's hope. I do like the lack of guys though compared to the first gun season.
I haven't been out yet, got some kind of a flu bug on Mon, put me flat on my back on the couch. Yesterday would have been a right off anyway, the winds were howling here all day and it rained like crazy so I'm not too upset.
Still howling this morning and where I hunt the winds shut down deer movement all together, far so much noise in the bush.
I'm feeling better today and the weather looks good for the rest of the week, so I'll be out for the eve hunt tonight.
Didn't see a deer on Monday
Tuesday was a complete right off with the winds. I went for a little walk and was into the rabbits big time everywhere I walked I jumped a rabbit or 2. All got a free pass

I had two does come towards me on the run within the first hour on Monday. I figured coyote or buck would have been behind them but not a thing. No shot on either of the does.

Windy and cold today for sure. No deer moving yet where I’m hunting. Fingers crossed for tomorrow.
Zip here also, Monday morning dense fog, late afternoon heard 9 shots from same area [ whom ever it was, was making ground venison on the hoof] Tuesday and today strong winds.

Hunted Mon and had a doe stick around the stand for about 45 mins. Yesterday didn't see a thing, back out tomorrow. When we had a bit of snow on the ground last week I started to get day time pics of bucks, snow is gone and they are back to being nocturnal. Bring on the snow and cold quick!
I have a snow storm up here in 82a been snowing since yesterday. Any advice?
Look under the evergreens they will tuck under the branches to take shelter walk slow look under look away then look back u maybe surprised what u see

could try a spot and stalk since you have so much property with forest...given the weather deer should be moving good...all corn is down in my area...currently in the blind with my buddy heater 94b archery nice and cozy...helping my cuz fill his tag.. anyways got to go almost deer:thirty over here..good luck!Quote:

Had a nice Doe in front tonight, but I decided that a Doe would walk this week. I agonized over shooting one for the Camp Pole during rifle, so I wasn't go to do it again.
Great day of hunting all in all, the winds died down and I could hear what was happening around me. I sounds like the winds will be back tomorrow.
Morning looks good over here. No snow n light wind n right direction. Almost seems like they've evaporated around here.
I'm in 82a as well. I find they don't move the day after a heavy snow until the next day after when their appetites get to them. I walked a huge bush after a heavy storm and not a track. The next day was a totally different story. They'll be on any food source they have tomorrow. I try to sit near bedding areas in conifers during a heavy snow. Of course what do I know I haven't shot a deer here since I moved here! LOL
Fresh liver and onions tonight mmm good , had a big doe come to me cross wind at [lasured] 157 yards, she stopped and looked as if she was going to head back into the bush, she was about 15 yards out in the field.
As I cannot hunt tomorrow , and don't know what sat. or sun. will bring for weather, took the shot , Savage 10 ML-ll , one shot one kill. a quartering on shot , busted shoulder took out the heart bang , dropped tried to get up and dropped again without a twitch.
It was a " BIG " doe, I could hardly move her around to get her gutted, had to wait for help to load her into the truck.
That's 9 one shot kills with the good ole Savage smokeless/

I have had them follow me before, mostly at night on my way out. I hunt a small area with one buck and two resident does, the buck knows just how far away to stand and watch me LOL.Quote:

Had a similar instance during my November ML hunt. Went home mid day to grab a shower and change of clothes, and while in the bathroom, look out the window and see a doe being followed by a decent buck across an open field, about 250 yards away.Quote:

I took my deer to the butchers yesterday, they normally would have a few deer there taken in by hunters, but mine was the only one there, I guess I was lucky to an extent.
It was perfect weather for a hunt this morning, unfortunately sans Deer :)
I only heard one shot locally, considering this being the Sat morning and probably Max amount of ML guys out, not a good sign. See what happens tonight. I'm still hopeful one will make a mistake :)
I may have to get the x-bow out once we finally get some snow on the ground and I can see where they are roaming.
I've been out 5 out of 6 evenings and one morning. NOthing but tracks and they're so snowed in it would appear the deer are moving only at night. I had 5 standing on my lawn the other night according to tracks. They've snuggled up to the 5 houses on our concession and I'm assuming it's because of constant coyote problems.
M/L season is done in our area,tonight. Coyote starts first thing Monday morning.
What area are you in, there are a lot of WMU s where the season ends Dec. 10/2017 which is tomorrow Sunday.Quote:

With three different bucks on camera and does in the cross hairs at the beginning of the week things quickly went south (or north pole) from there. I went into panic mode yesterday and having the only doe tag around recruited 3 more hunters but to no avail. The typical December snow never materialized this year until of course this morning. Unfortunately it is a little too late. With my limp and up coming knee surgery I have to accept the fact that it is tag soup this year. The forecast is for -16 C plus wind chill this evening I will put the gear away for another season and prepare for back to work tomorrow. I do have a crossbow but doubt if I will get out hunting again this year. Congratulations to all who were successful during this ML week as it was a tough one for sure.

Too bad impact..... yesterday did seem like a really nice day out... with the cold weather and snow starting down her early next week our deer should be hitting food sources pretty good. I myself want to get out a few more times before the season ends, then God willing, coyote hunting for the rest of the winter.

Funny you should mention them. I was loading the gear up last evening and a pack of them were howling a couple of hundred yards behind me. There was no blood anywhere so I guess they were simply saying goodbye and good riddance...lolQuote:

Tough season for me as well. Hunted hard for the last three days of ml season at multiple locations and the bucks were simply not making daytime appearances, even the does were keeping a low profile. I finally shot a doe yesterday for the freezer but must say it has been a lot of years since there have been no antlers hanging in the garage. I (like a lot of guys here) attribute this to the weather, we just didn't get the cold temps required to get the big boys out looking for food imo!

Ditto here; lousy week for hunting all in all. I missed 6 of the 14 possible hunts and 3 more I should have just stayed home due to wind. I did't even see a Buck till the end of the week and I didn't have my ML with me at the time. I passed on a Doe mid-week as I'd already shot one from that bush during the rifle week.Quote:
