I guess it doesn't matter how energy negative the damn stuff is, as
long as the producers continue to make big contributions to their
party. It's also really hard on small engines.

I wonder how many articles have to come out to prove how bad Ethanol is on global food prices, not to mention the destruction of the rain forests in South America, when corn is worth more than the forest the forest loses.
We need to stop driving escalades to take our 1 kid to soccer, that is the problem.
I have been looking at cars again, my 1994 Toyota Camry got about 8L/100km average, the new 2018 Camry get an average of 7L/100km. 24 years of technology and they have not reduced the fuel consumption much at all but yet they have added 70HP for nothing in a grocery getter, give me 130HP with a stick shift and 4L/100km and we would not have to worry about all this fuel talk.
The thing is those fuel efficient vehicles are already on the market. The person buying an Escalade couldn't care less about fuel efficiency or emissions. It would be interesting to see a credible in depth study to compare the "true" carbon footprint of producing ethanol vs gasoline? It might prove to be inconvenient for some. People think electric cars are produced in a vacuum with no carbon footprint like hydro is magically produced and batteries are recycled like pop cans. Unfortunately proper studies are expensive and those who pay for them usually have an agenda.Quote:

Fuel efficient vehicles are not on the market for the average person. The ones with great fuel efficiencies are very expensive, why not just have a smaller engine with a reasonable amount of power to get from point A to point B and be done with it. The first honda civic that came into NA had 60HP with a 7.8L/100km, our family got around in one of those bad boys at the start, it worked and 60HP worked.Quote:

Our gas has 10% ethanol in it and I'll tell you something - it clogs the fuel system of everything - just recently has to take the carbs off my two outboards and clean out all the green slime in them - this happened even with me faithfully putting a fuel stabilizer into the gas - it seems everyone is all shook up over carbon and climate change - plants need carbon to grow and as far as climate change is concerned - I like the warmer weather
They do sort of tax the crap out of them. HST on a $90k Escalade and the daily gasoline taxes are way more than the guy driving a Honda Fit. They are building better vehicles now. Your example of a 60hp Honda with 7l/100 consumption doesn't sound great compared to my 395hp 5.7hemi that averages under 12l/100. But you are correct, we don't need to drive the level of vehicles we do.Quote:
