Someone got stuck....More skinny pedel sure may have helped..

Ok went out for a quick drive in the snow today. Tacoma out front breaking trail and the 4runner running along behind. Well it all was going fine till someone forgot they are not driving around a snowy parking lot. So it turns into a recovery.

She was scared I would leave her out there over night.:silly: Not likely, and now she knows it. :thumbup:She also know now to wear better boots.:madman:

There would not be a 4runner left if we had to wait till then.:ashamed: Lots of snowmobile traffic and on a public road. Yes i said "public road" :happy:, well it only goes two miles and is an unassumed road with no maintenance they list it on all the maps. In the summer the quads, farm equipment, and a few 4X4 trucks play on it. :thumbup:

yes driving thru the centre of the drifts, and not off to the side did not help. Drift is four feet on one side, and only covers half the road, but she plows into the four foot section, because she has to drive in the centre of both lanes.:confused:

No it is a two mile long unassumed unmaintained county road, with a maintained road every mile. One at the start one in the middle and one at the end. There is a low unsheltered section on the western end that will drift over with snow from the field, after that your driving between good size stands of trees and there is little drifting over the road.

After her panic attack, and she understood that we would just winch the two vehicles out of the deep snow and then drive home she was happier. Except about her feet. Her feet were really cold and they would not warm up. She wore that wrong style of boot( tops too low) and they filled with snow with every step. The boots are waterproof and she was wearing thick wool socks. But when your boots are 3/4 full of water from melting snow, the wool socks don't even help.

She has today dug out her big winter boots and made me buy more recovery gear. I figure give it a few weeks and she may start itching for a rematch.

I hate that when the snow goes down my boots.

It's pretty impressive she would go thru so much snow with her own car just for fun.... Thumbs up to her!!
My half does wear good boots but no gloves and hat. I'm the other way around, always my gloves and hat but I have a hard time not to wear running shoes....

I can't imagine anything much worse than snow down your rubber.

We were out with the Jeeps, I was running with my brother, he had a spring over conversion on his. Blew out 2 U joints on the rear driveshaft. We taped a bag around the transfer case to keep the fluid in and got out just on the front axle over heavy rock and only 2 helper pulls, it was a heck of a lot of fun.

Never did a snow run but there is a reason you never wheel alone, be safe and be prepared and you will have stories for a lifetime.

We are getting ready for our trip on the TCAT in 2019.

You want real great offroading you should check out the land of OZ. I was there in 1982, and wish I could get back for more then a couple weeks. The Victoria Highlands are a lot like places in Canada if you can over look that the trees all look different.

The machine has 4WD, ag tires and locking differentials so chains are only needed for pushing/pulling on icy surfaces. Number of times in the last 10 years I have needed them is zero so not worth it. They would not have made any difference as the problem was the frame getting hung up and floating. 4 tires in the air and chains are irrelevant. As for plowing that is a gravel bucket designed to pick material up and move it to another location. Plows wing snow they don't carry snow. That bucket can sorta plow if the snow is fluffy and not too deep. It can also clear snow if you have room to turn and somewhere to dump. Even if I could have loaded and transported bucket loads of snow one at a time without tipping there is nowhere to put them as the bush is tight to the side of the trail for most of the way. Other factor is that is not a road with a relatively flat travel surface. It is a long, steep, narrow, winding trail with an uneven rocky surface that climbs out of a river valley. You can see in the top pic that the back hoe boom is canted off to one side. This is because I just came out of a section where I had to turn the boom 90 degrees to the machine and partially extend it to one side to prevent the machine from tipping. The top pic also shows the top of the trail where things are starting to open up and level off.

I was once showing a driver one of the videos and they got the camera truck bogged. As we watched them work on pulling and winching it out, questions about the price of all the gear costs came up. Then he asked why spend that kind of money when you can just call AAA( American), I think having half the lunch counter laughing at him did not make him happy.;)

The chains go on my 4wd tractor about the first of the deer hunt. Come off when we finish making maple syrup....Buckets and blades get switched back and forth as needed

I have chains ( not cables) for the tacoma as well. I have the chain pliers so not only can I fix them, but I can get the broken transport chains from work and build super heavy duty sets.
