Finally it happened
I have set up and called coyotes so many times I have lost count. Although I have shot a couple while deer hunting, I’ve never been able to connect when targeting them specifically.
I bought a foxpro wildfire with a foxjack and figured this was going to be the game changer...but still, no takers. Met up with a buddy yesterday and tried a new spot where a lady had her dog killed by coyotes out back of her property. We set up and I kinda figured “well, here we go again”...started with a couple female coyote challenge barks, went quiet for about 30 seconds then hit the lightning jack. About 45seconds later I hear my buddy shoot. I turned to see one going down and a second on the run. The foxbang kicked in and the larger one stopped to look around. Unfortunately he was behind some brush at about 250 yards so we couldn’t get a clean poke at him. Regardless, we did get the smaller female. She’s got a nice pelt. I just finished cleaning out the burrs and will flesh her later today.
I guess it it comes down to location and how aggressive they are.

Congratulations on the first... Looking forward to see some pictures?
Exciting for sure

Just fleshed it out. Its on the stretcher to dry a bit. I ripped off an ear and its got a few cuts in it from skinning it after dark, but its fine for what I have in mind for it. I'd like to get a couple more and tan them as a batch.

Great work Dilly.
I'm in the same boat. I have shoot a few turkey hunting and 1 while deer hunting. But I have never been able to connect with one while specifically targeting them. I have called them 3 times out of numerous sets. But for 1 reason or another I could not make the shot. I even went out Saturday to one of our properties with tons of sign and had no takers. Mind you I went out around 10:30 and am not sure if that's why because they are not active during the day as most story's of success I hear or read about happens at first light.
I guess it will be a trial and error.
I'm still trying to figure out what call to use and in what sequence.
Great work. Keep hammering them.

FWIW BG, I have always gone at dawn...except this day. We bagged this one around 4:30-5:00

Went out to the same spot today and called one out of the same swamp. This was in the afternoon again and I think it may have been the one we didn’t get last time. He responded immediately again but to female coyote yips. He stood and stared at the decoy for about a minute. I tried switching to dying rabbit but he stood stone still at 300ish yards. I settled in and shot and he started spinning. My buddy shot and he looked like he got hit a second time but he took off running. We tracked him a long way into a swamp but sadly lost the track. Wish we had snow.
