Getting into a pizzzing match with your biggest trading partner and military protecter doesn't quite seem like sound policy? Why did they let boy blunder near a live microphone again?
That can't be real...... can it?

Justin Trudeau Stabbed US in the back
https://globalnews.ca/news/4265300/j...tariffs-trade/
What do people expect “Canada’ to do? Bend over, take it and say sorry?
I get it, most people are a little left or right of center, then like hunting or guns, you have the zealots (thankfully fewer in number) that are on the extreme ends.
Trump ran on a campaign and strangely enough for a poitician has largely stuck to it, for better or worse. He is doing what he thinks is best for Americans. Only the foolish didn’t see things coming. On the trade war, like most politicians he wil spin (or lie) when he can. Sadly for us, many US citizens have a hard time reading, let alone finding unbiased or near to news.
The US enjoys a trade surplus, that is a fact and Trump lie.
We do have some insanely high tariffs based on supply management. Dairy is one...That is a fact.
The Tariffis Trump initiated, on steel and Alum, are going to hurt. Possibly cost people jobs ( go NDP and PS Unions). Do people seriously think we should just take it? It’s a trade war we cant win. Sure we can trade punches for punch’s ($ for $), indefinitely, the US does export a ton here. However, what we dont have is 300mm people and a GDP that dwarfs ours.....Something many dont understand about debt to gdp, particularily public servants who think everyone’s everyone makes 80k and has benefits.....(lots of room to find savings in overhead, without cutting heads btw).
Its not the 325b in Ontario..thats just a number..if we had um, more people working jobs in private and GDP ( Gross domestic Product), that wouldnt be a problem...Nationally with just 36m people, its the GDP that is critical.
Aywho, who amongst us would rather go down swinging, that take it like a patsy...Surprised anyone is criticizing the Feds over this. In fact, because the mid terms are coming up, the retaliation was brilliant. By targeting products, made in those districts that are up for grabs, and hurting his base.....Say no more.
Lol, suppose there will always be those who cant see the good r credit where credit is due, when its not their “party”.
I sure hope the Liberals saw the writing on the wall a long time ago and are working their arses off to create alternative markets with other countries. If not, they should all be fired. What village idiots wouldn't develop a Plan "B" just in case things went south? Wait a minute......don't answer that.
To quote a meme that’s popular on FB. “Do we miss Harper yet”?
Were now down to one nationalized pipeline instead of lines East West and South.
Not sure where the trade agree with India stand after the fiasco and the EU he got, looks better all the time, though likely still some years before bearing fruit.
Just wait, Trump is going to claim we are streaming over the border to take their jobs then try to get a pile of money out of us to take it back.
Germany said it quite well "In a matter of seconds, you can destroy trust with 280 twitter characters". The G7 is setup to talk, he says he does not want to go to the meetings because they do not like him, then when there he jokes and says they all have an understanding but will keep his tariffs then when out on his jet goes off about how bad they all are. He sounds more and more like a toddler every day.
Ever notice how he never stands to shake hands if he is seated? Should you not have your man card revoked for such a thing?
I was missing having a leader and thinker as a PM a day after the Butts puppet started his new job... almost from the beginning he was a bully on the floor of the House of Commons (dragging one MP, elbowgate...) and hiring nannies and taking vacations.
As for India... they slapped a bunch of tariffs on agricultural products

Jorden Peterson always hits the nail on the head especially when it's about the hair gel kid.
I would like to think I am fair in my criticism of politicians. While Trudeau hasn't preformed up to my expectations, I think he is handling this situation as well as anyone could. Trump has decided he doesn't like our dairy supply management issue (or was his reason because of national secuirty or perhaps it is because the US needs to ensure that it creates enough steel to meet it's own demand (I am unsure because Trump has used all three explanations to justify his tariffs)) so he has decided to endanger the entire trading relationship both countries have.
Several media reports have stated that his daily briefings are often a mess as he needs to have information explained to him multiple times. If these reports are true, it could be that he doesn't listen to people. Trudeau could have told him that Canada will retaliate with tariffs and if Trump wasn't listening, then this could explain why Trump has had decided to rant on twitter about Trudeau.
I suspect Trump's only goal is the unilateral capitulation of Canada in NAFTA. He (and his loyal base) think that the US is getting somehow screwed in the trading agreement. However, he only rants on twitter and has not once supplied any data to back up his claims.
Looking at his behaviour at the G7, it is increasing apparant that the current POTUS can not be dealt with in any rational manner. He is starting to torch relationships with allied nations, his actions undermine the US' ability to be a trustworthy negotiator and the President appears to have trouble functioning as an adult man. Can anyone ever recount an instance where a leader of a nation has insulted or allowed his subordinates on his behalf to insult a leader of an allied nation like what has happened in the past few days (certainly there have been subordinates who have spoken ill of leaders; however, they aren't speaking for their boss and they don't usually last too long in their job)? Steve Harper was even a guest on Fox and questioned why these tariffs were being brought forward.
At the end of the day, this is not a situation that we want to be in but I think we have little choice. Trudeau needs to stick to his guns on this and not let Canada be bullied by Trump (and I think Trudeau was correct in saying that it isn't the US people pushing this but just the government and to be fair I think it is really the POTUS and his cabinet pushing this; not the entire US government).
Dyth
To get peoples mindset on a situation , I always ask, 'what would you do instead?' That usually tells you all you need to know about a persons bias and perspective. Well, what should our PM , have done instead?
That is a very good question. Handling people like Trump is akin to handling a "cooked" grenade.
While I don't always agree with Trudeau, personal attacks by Trump on the PM because Trudeau wants to stand up for Canadians shouldn't be tolerated by any of us. Blind loyalty to Trudeau or his policies isn't required to understand that personal attacks on our PM is off-side.
TRudeau is doing just fine. He has been very professional in his responses to Trump. It doesn't matter what he says, Trump is unstable and unpredictable. He'll do what ever he wants anyway.
It'll come to a grinding halt when the impact of the tariffs increase the prices in the States. Trump supports in the U.S. don't understand the consequences of a Trump.
Trudeau is a fool and cannot afford to make anymore mistakes. Trump is currently signing the paperwork with North Korea to denuclearize them. Say what you want about Trump because in the end he is making history while Trudeau will go down in history as the worst PM. I have family and friends in the U.S.A and they just love what he is doing for them. We can't say that about Trudeau.
If you get tossed into a ring with a lion you should pay more attention to it than the cheering spectators. Trump is what he is. Neither Trudough or Freeland will change that. At some point you need to manage the situation to minimize cost. Trump couldn't care less about the EU or Canada. Best learn to deal with that, grandstanding excites the media but won't help us.
Trump is only making comments about blunder boy, because he don't know how to play the game.. Before the G7....all the leaders were making statements against trump's tariffs like they should. At the G7 they all shake hands and say "This tariff/trade war thing is not going to be good!", and they say they will talk and solve the problem. After the G7 blunder boy starts huffing, puffing, posturing and strutting like idiot. It will be near impossible to work things out that way.
Meanwhile as the other 5 countries are putting together trade agreement committees to negotiate with the US, our PM will run around puffing himself up till he blows a valve.
SW ,our PM could discover a cure for cancer and you would still find a way to disparage him. I also have many American friends ,and without exception, they are embarrassed , and disgusted by trump. Full discloser... my grandmother was American and I spent many summers in Grosse Pointe Michigan.
Don’t give a turd what happens. Just show me the money.
Saying you have American friends is like saying "I'm not racist, there is a black Janitor at my company". The only Americans that say they are embarrassed are liberal/Democrats.
The only Americans siding with Canada are Liberal/Democrats.
Just one more question sir....just one. When are the Steel and Aluminum tariffs going to go into effect?
OH Just one last question...
Who PAYS the cost of the tariffs?
That's an absurd comparison, why would that thought even come up? I have had family, (Grandparents) that were American, AND , I am still in contact with many American friends so I know what many of them, (not just democrats), are saying , they do not see trump in the same way as you and 'your ,'friends
It’s just that the fools in power make a big splash and get people talking but they do no good. Where are the ones that will go down in history as great.
It is no more absurd then your statement about having American friends.
Well if your American friends opinion counts, why does the option of my American friends, co-workers, and fellow tradesmen not count.
Seems like a double standard to me.
You also are avoiding my questions.
Care to give us your answers please.
Who pays the cost of Tarriffs?
Ontario’s working class. Already hit very hard by 10years of this and that and being ignored while those whose votes matter more are pandered to....
The plant I am at is in the Steel/Alum business and are major exporters. Not sure what a 25% hit to the bottom line will do......
Auto sector next........
Of coarse there are those who prefer to live in denial despite what economist (both left wing and right wing ) have been saying
When the nut in charge down south does something crazy why is it our governments fault? Gee, would the orange guy not have imposed tariffs if the cons. were in power? Hello lor you sound just like Jben.
Some people don't know how to fight...
If you pay $1.00 to buy a widget from me or others that make widgets but your country has decided to charge a 25% tariff on my widget, guess you'll be paying $1.30 per widget from now on, or you go out of business. If you don't like it, and whine, well maybe all the widget makers in my country and the country south of you all raise the price of widgets to $3.00. You have to have widgets to manufacture your Thing-a-bobs, so what do you do? Import from over seas? Well there are the same tariffs on those widgets as well, plus higher transportation and logistical costs. Every widget maker in the world has a tariff to import to your country, but not between each other. Stop making things that need widgets, or remove your tariff.
Oh you say you'll just build factories to make your own widgets, go ahead. But where are you going to get the raw material from? Every country that has the raw material to make widgets, has put an Export ban on Raw Materials to your country or raised the price of it to levels that it is not affordable.
The world can live without the US. The US can not live without the World.
I am not going to pretend the transition would be without problems, but it can be done.
Well, it safe to assume that Trump hates Liberals and would do anything to put them in a difficult position so in a way having Pretty boy in power doesn't help our cause. Trump isn't the brightest so having a guy who look and think like him could probably do the trick. What do you think?
Ok hope this works...
http://www.cbc.ca/news/business/fed-...rade-1.4701260
Just think North Korea joins the modern world, and the US becomes an isolated nation....talk about a role reversal
JBen got tired of stuff.
People that shan’t be named “starting” things. Like JT ;) I swing back, but life taught me to hit back hard. (See below)
Same old tired arguements, over and over and over again. Here we are 14 years later (2006 when some started to see the growth in PS and raise flags....many didnt want to hear it)....And even when Drummond kicked the lid off the can (who is basically a left wing economist and one I really put a a lot of stock in, along with Mintz who is right wing).....And here we are, still “arguing” the same crap....The LEFT ( JT in this case) trade punches with the right (Trump) and vice versa....Caught in the crossfire is that class of people who are rising up, and starting essentially class warfare ( the ones no one really cares about)......Populism, and Marie Antoinette even......
He also decided he’d had enough of capitalism, and despite believing heads have to roll when “Bay” street does it thing....When all 200 of our heads rolled (that thing called accountability). Decided he had enough of the bS, lies, consumerism we all aree fed steady diets of..
He went country and joined OPSEU.
Then saw with his own eyes, some of the crap on that side f the fence...and also how OPSEU treats their own little people (like crap). Lol the pages I could write....
He then went to a plant that manufactures Steel and ALum (Tool and Die) for all aotumotive manufactures, Hydro companies and more.
In short loving life, the country life, out of the rat race, away from the lemmings and god almighty green back that both sides use to treat the common man, the peons like 3rd class citizens.
Came back for the buy and sell forums. Things im looking for and wanted to see how people felt about WYnne finally getting the boot....Way, way, way too late.
We are in a world of hurt...well some are anyways...
If the Liberals truly want to do something, hit them where it hurts. In the nuts. If theres one thing I learned in life as a young kid. Dont strat them, finish them.
Cut off the flow of Oil, Hydro and fresh water...Then watch the American populace scream for Trumps head.
I don't know what the future will bring, but remember this about 80% of the non-Canadian grown fresh food we buy in the store comes from places outside the US. I am currently carrying so much bonded freight ( remember 99.995% of my loads are food) between Mexico and Canada, that I have not pickup or delivered freight to or from an American company in about eight months. For example pork from Alberta plants in bond to Mexican import warehouses on the texas/Mexico border, drive 26Km and load Oranges bonded and Quarantined by Homeland security for movement to Canada. The freight is coming and going through Mexican Ports, to and from every place in the world.
It's not just food. Everything from diapers to bulldozers are being moved this way.
If you are worried about the price of an American built car/truck, I say let them buy their own crap.:madman: I'll buy a Toyota Hilux built in Mexico ( yup they build them there for Mexico, Central, and south America), over anything that is designed and built to meet California standards any day of the week.
Guess I am alittle tired of everyone telling me I should buy a "Domestic Automobile " and not give my money to foreign workers. My Tacoma was built is TX, with parts made in North America, and assembled by US workers. But it's still called a foriegn truck. :silly:
I say pull the pin, lets see what happens..:ninja:
From some of the media they talk about Trudope stabbing Trump in the back ...
https://www.facebook.com/brianlilley...3319952401718/
Over and over outside the media machine is right and what I hear is that the PM puppet almost had a deal in private and then decides to throw it out the window in public to score Canadian points .... seems to me Trudeau threw Canada under the Trump tank to get some points probably in relationship to the Ford win if I had to guess why, not a good reason but that is Justlied for you. Trump is a negotiator, make him happy and he will make sure you are happy, piss on his pant leg and he will cut of your pant leg... probably with the leg still in it!
Over 80% of our exports go to the US... I am just thankful a trade war is the worst that can happen (still bad) ... about 100 years ago WW1 started over an assassination .... and how is our military doing.... used jets, sleeping bag recalls (this actually kind of makes sense but has poor optics), defer, delay.......
https://www.ctvnews.ca/politics/otta...jjan-1.3952100
They could reduce Canada to a starving pauper without a huge impact, it would be big but as mentioned above just look at OUR food imports...
I think you have misread what I wrote.
Only about 20% of Canada's imported food comes from the US. Even if the US decides to not sell that 20% to us, Mexico, central and south America countries can cover the differences and make up the shortages in about six months or less. The freight would still be unloaded from ships at Mexican ports, moved to the Warehouses in Southern TX, AZ, CA and be put on trucks heading to Canada. The US can not stop the bonded In-transit loads of food from traveling across the country to and FROM Canada. The load of pork I was talking about before was going to China, but gets shipped there out of Mexico.
I could tell you things about food that would have you scratching your head for days. They take Florida oranges to California to make juice, and California oranges to Florida to eat. Sounds stupid right? Well it is till you learn that the type of oranges grown in Florida and the oranges grown in California are two different subspecies of oranges and cross pollination between them could destroy the crops in both states.
Oh and by the way all the chicken nuggets sold at wendy's, Burger King, McDonald's, etc all come out of the same three or four plants in North America.
.... and just how would we do that? Hydro we do sell at a loss to them in Ontario to a few states, fresh water.... I don't even want to try and understand how you came up with that one.... Oil ..... with the fracking they are almost stand alone now and even starting to export... in Canada we import too, millions of gallons of Saudi etc. oil. The imbecile PM we have made sure that we are stuck still buying it too!
80%??? I read it but you didn't seem to read, I said "Over 80% of our exports go to the US..."
As for imports you are way way off!
Imports of food into Canada by country, 2007
https://www150.statcan.gc.ca/n1/pub/...0/t240-eng.htm
Country Millions, % and rank
United States..............$13,542.5 .......57.1% 1
Mexico............................$906.6 .......3.8% 2
China............................ $799.0 .......3.4% 3
Italy............................ $691.6 .......2.9% 4
Doesn't seem to be alot of imports from other sources .... to say in 6 month then can export 10X+ ... anyone for $140 head of lettuce and $130 for a couple oranges? .... and in those 6 months????? I would guess you know little about agricultural practices and farming!
So not the 80% you imagined me saying but with increasing trade deficits.... probably well over 60%
https://www.ctvnews.ca/business/stat...arch-1.3913323
Hence why JBen asked to have his account deleted...I see that not much has changed.
Don’t have the time to waste on google, parsing things that fit “my narrative” the way you do Mosquito. Question. When you started this thread why didn’t you include a link to Doug Ford “standing should to shoulder with JT”. Could it be because that didn’t fit the narrative?
So quick bullets will need to suffice.
1) whether Ontario sells it at a loss is immataerial. The eastern seaboard will still go black. Don’t you understand that “in a fight” you have to expect “losses”...
Quebec though sells at a profit. Neither here nor there, as the $ means jack. Unplugging them does
Water:
Nestles (and more but you are like the far left zealots)
Oil
Canada is the worlds 4th largest oil producer. We supply roughly 15-20% of their demand. Hence our trade surplus, most of our goods are energy.............
We have a fairly large goods surplus. Two minutes in google will confirm that.
They have a large services surplus.....in short we export far more “goods”, they export far more services.
Net they have an 8b surplus
So once we kick where it hurts. Where will they turn?.
The Mid East?
Lol!!!’ opec will tighten the vise in all likelihood.
And the mighty US military will be “empty” in weeks, let alone the cars on the road
You might also want to understand that due to accounting differences
They, the US, show our goods surplus......as even smaller than we do...
It’s always helpful imo, to gain perspective (right word?) from the “other side”...be it a country, be it reading both L and R wing economist. Finding where they agree/overlap, etc
https://ustr.gov/countries-regions/americas/canada

Attachment 37051

Mosquito.
A very large percentage of your 57.1% comes from Farms in Mexico owned by large US Corporations. The Farm's produce and inspection standards all comply with USDA, and is then trucked into warehouses in AZ, CA, or TX. As for the six months to increase production, they grow all year.
If the only way to sell to Canada is for the Farms in Mexico to become Mexican, ownership will be transferred pretty darm quick.
Hence they accounting difference .
Believe it or not I try very hard to avoid reading economic news and data these days. That’s an old life
If I recall correctly. We record and count data on flow through goods. Things that originate outside the US, but arrive here via the US.
A lot ( I forget the percentage) of our goods are energy and raw materials.
Cut off Hydro and oil, and more than their cars tanks, boats, planes will grind to a halt. And if I had to bet, see a chance to really hurt them, OPEC will squeeze the vice on their nuts hard.
Their economy will be toast in weeks if not days.
While I would absolutely love to cut oil, hydro and water off, it would only hurt the American people and could quite possibly rally them around Trump. I don't think we back the American people into a corner, history has shown that is a bad idea to do so. With the exception of the rabid Trump supporters, who think the world is screwing them, I think the majority of Americans don't like these tariffs and don't want this to escalate any further (which Trump is warning it could).
LoR , welcome back. If it upsets you to participate.....don't. It is the same old same old. You have to do what's best for you.
I think this is a pretty good analysis of the situation. Trudeau is a guppy trying to deal with a shark. Trudeau's grandstanding may win him some temporary support from shortsighted individuals but if this continues it will cost us all dearly.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UwE_...ature=youtu.be
“JBen” asked Jay to delete the account. Trust me, it’s inaccessible (even if it still shows).....
Lol Bushmoose too funny.
Your reaction really says it all.
The mere threat alone would send shockwaves through the US, the markets. Etc
The point is the “message”. It would cripple them. Call it a game of chicken if you like...
And “realistically” there isn’t much they could do about it. Hell its only been words so far, and most of the G7 are turning on him...polite offend no-one Canada, that country all admire, like......unlike the US
The world won’t let them use force against us. Like the US we have stuff the world wants/needs......not the least of which is hospitibal land in a quickly becoming crowded world...think China would want the US to....russia, the UK, France, India.....who in this world would allow the US....
Be that as it may. Sometimes you just have to send a message........
And there are those, who already think we should be reducing our exports to the US by 40%
Regardless.
Same old same old.
Quite obviously I made the right call. :) this place.
Happily go back to my “meds” Boishmoose. A life in the country, away from the BS, rat race, and well quite honestly people.....
Doors always open G, drop in for a beer on your way to that island on the lake...
/edit
damn iPhone, tried to copy an article.
now can’t be bothered
Lol Rick.
:)
“Yep” or perhaps given the times. Oui, or is that ouiji
Here is a very interesting link about our oil;
http://www.oilsandsmagazine.com/news...oil-comes-from
It seems we import more oil than we export.
Which begs the questions.
Why haven’t we built pipelines East....and...West.
Why havent we built refineries
Why don’t we “cut” off the flow, or get off the teat? Do we like being “puppets”. Are we so afraid of what the US might (but really cant do?)
Do we miss Harper yet?
http://business.financialpost.com/ne...bby-chief-says
A wee bit dated but..........
https://www.macleans.ca/economy/trum...s-with-canada/
Back to my um “meds” and La la land, :) where the loons chime away at night, and in the wee hours. Rush hour might be a few horses going by..
Best guess?
Trump hits Automotive and shoots himself in the foot in the process.
We punch back, dollar for dollar...dont F with is, we mean it....lol
Trump?? Who knows, the guys is off his rocker and more....
have to do something, and have to put on a show, but too afraid to finish it, too afraid to grow a spine, and in the process help ourselves out and do what we will likely do albeit gradually over the next 10-15 years anyways...
call his bluff and huffing, before it gets worse......
If we cut off the oil flow to the U.S. , we would be shooting ourselves in the foot as we do not have enough refineries to supply our own Canadian demands.
You are going to tell us to build more refineries! but tell us also where the money is going to come from to do this ? also it would take ages to build refineries , they do not go up overnight an in the meantime we as Canadians will suffer as we rely on the refineries in the U.S. for our gasoline and fuel products.
No kidding Rick :)
I can think of a million ways to better spend the 80b in extra debt they are piling on alone....
Like a million barrels of heavy crude to our own refinery. No they don’t spring up over night. But they do provide jobs, lots of them...same as a pipeline to that that refinery and better yet. FU to BC, we’re going East.
Point being for some reason it’s being “missed”
At what point do we grow a backbone, say “enough is enough, and send a very clear message and shot across his and their bow”
Their greatest weakness is energy, energy products. Just happens to be our strength...
Lol, jeez we hold the cards here, not them. We can
If we choose and choos to grow some, deal from a position of strength and leverage
BC ignored the environmental approvals and flew the bird to the constitution and killed the West pipeline. Quebec killed the East one. Trump isn't the problem our own weak federal government will never risk Quebec seats by forcing a pipeline through.
Pretty much Terry.
For the most part, people get caught up in blaming who they don’t like. It’s natural.
It’s like Cons who blame McGuinty for the PS hiring spree (2003-2006). Without factoring the deep cuts to Nursing. But then the left blames Harris, without factoring Rae blah blah.
“Right now”...
Honestly JT I think is doing about as well as he can. Room to be better? Yep. But who here is perfect.
Just wish Canada, including the FEds would grow some for a change.........
JT made this bed, their inability to look beyond the end of their noses....
I know many thought Trump was fanatastic when he won...still feel the same way??????Who, didn’t see this coming????????
If this doesn’t end soon, the tit for tat we’re afraid to really fire back, could go on forever...Trumps more than just a littine insane..
Dairy?
Yep, our tarriffs are high. But it’s sucj a small amount. Many here in Canada disagree with supply management. However, Trumps blowing smoke. Funny, why doesn’t he mention the massive US subsidy. That allows dairy farmers in Wisconsin to produce, dirt cheap.....
These things are far from simple.
We live in the land of Oz. People live in La La land. Caught in consumerism and more. Fed steady diets of BS from all. From the L, the R, marketing, and more.
If we only had a spine.
Could we pipe to Superior, or “Hamilton” and then use tankers ( the cheapest way by far)..don’t know.
Who didn’t see the need in 2008 when the landscape changed...
Harper tried, failed some himself....why didn’t he push at least a line east through...
Anywho, everyone is afraid of the US. Except the Mideast. What really is Trump using for his leverage, to “bully”
The mighty US economy, consumerism.
Well grow some stones Canada. Not only could it do us a world of good in this changed landscape. We have cards to.
https://www.forbes.com/sites/rrapier.../#16e7d9cef4ae
This war actually plays to both Trump and JT's base. Their supporters like what they see. But it shows both are dropping the ball. Protectionism will only shrink the US economy. Comfortable Americans want to buy BMW's, Hondas and cheap Chinese made electronics. If the tariffs raise prices too much not sure it will be replaced with higher priced US made alternatives. Off shore produced products still create employment through sales and distribution channels. It's not Chinese people who deliver and sell in NA. As for Trudough, the way he handled the pipeline problem is scary and shows he has no control domestically on areas he actually has jurisdiction on. Get the damned pipelines built, open deep sea ports to accommodate tankers and if supply management is going to end up costing billions then force an end to it on both sides. There will be casualties both political and employment wise but the advantages are there too on the larger scale.
.... I think the more this plays the more I agree with a business analyst on BNN the other day, the target isn't milk or even tariffs, Trump's target is the automotive industry. Adding tariffs on there would be the only way you could see alot of the automotive industry leave Canada and relocate to the US and once they did .... they wouldn't be coming back without a huge reason too. IF he is right... then Trudeau gave him just the excuse!
As for the pipelines ... if you want to kill the oil industry... he is doing a perfect job! The only pipeline that can get approval is one the gov't of Canada owns will kill investment in the extreme .... and even then it might not get done .... and that would not surprise me!
If Trump wins and removes the auto sector it would definitely hurt many but eventually we can transition more to Japanese and European brands. Long term it would remove dependence on The USA and I sure wouldn't mind driving Toyota and Hondas. If I was Trudough I would immediately create an environment where these auto manufacturers could step in.
The Canadian automotive industry is a mere shadow of what it used to be. Once we lost the US-Canada Auto Pact through the WTO when the Chretien Liberals failed to defend Canada's auto companies to external pressure,we were done like dinner. It's been a downhill slide ever since. Foreign automotive companies that still build vehicles in Canada will soon be the only game left. They have a large world-wide customer base unlike the domestics,so,any US tariffs could be quickly off-set by redirecting inventory away from the US should markets shrink, closing and moving American plants offshore. The Trump administration may have just shot themselves in the arse. Time will tell and it won't be long.
Hilux and LandCruisers. Only ones we need. I could be a little biased, but so what.

Remember guys, there’s always different ways to look at things.
Many think tarriffs on Auto motive would be mutual self destruction. It’s not about what we can buy. As trimmer said it’s about industry and jobs....
Let’s not forget that the past X years has seen major shifts in investment capital to the US......already.
The combined weight I would think of
/hydro
/taxation
/ more
/25% hit on steel/Alum
/??% on automive
Will kill what what’s left of the working class.
Some analyst think there will be those companies like Magna that won’t flee. In part because it’s a big risk. They could spend billions for todays grass grass, but in 3 years time if/when Americans wake up and kick the madman out.........but then again...given Ontario’s hellhole..........
Good point. At worse it's 7 more years if he's reelected to a second term. He could Lose control in the mid term elections. At the end of the day we should be doing everything we could to diversify our economy and reduce dependence on the US. Having all your eggs in the same basket is very dangerous.
And take the kiddy gloves off.
Do we, or the feds think Trump isn’t playing for keeps?
We have leverage if we choose to use it. Or we find other ways to grow spines.

Another interesting look at the tariffs/timelines/useless Libs and how we are going to get screwed because of them....

Seems they ignored the real reason for the steel tariff for over a year.... Justin Trudeau protecting China that would make sense too. So..including the other guy that was using quotes too, we seem to have:
1) April 2017 - warnings from US about trans-shipping Chinese steel
2) Trump trying to get US automakers to move jobs back.
3) Justin Trudeau comes back from vacation , ignores visiting royal, tell steel workers don't worry, be happy
4) Nothing happens in Canada on Steel until May 2018
5) Tariffs on steel from Canada May 2018
6) Canada starts to think about doing something since
7) Canada doesn't address the issue but puts tariffs on US stuff..
8).... start of a trade war?
The one item that ol’ Tommy Mulcair and I agreed on. WHY don’t we invest in pipelines to our own refineries ?
Energy East was a great idea, and Denis Coderre should have been told to shut up and eat it. But oh yes, again we pander to Quebec.m
We don’t have the stones to continue building OUR country it seems.
There are good arguements against building our own refineries . Have always been good arguements, and perhaps, that’s why we haven’t... Times change, and everything whether it’s the “refinery” debate, supply management, tax revenue/how much is too much, government overhead, or Pensions (sounded good in the 1960s).....can be revisited, weighed against the current and future realities.
There’s a time and place for everything..
Muddy water.
Maybe the gov should do what they are meant for.
Make it better for the people of this country.
Watch Doug ford. Maybe will learn what a leader is.
Did I just hear a giant Conibear slam shut? .... or Victor if you only deal with mice!

Based on the Tariffs and Trade Barriers long placed on the U.S. and it great companies and workers by the European Union, if these Tariffs and Barriers are not soon broken down and removed, we will be placing a 20% Tariff on all of their cars coming into the U.S. Build them here!
They ignored the problem for a year, protecting Chinese steel etc. traveling through Canada and now to "punish" the US the Libranoes want Canadian's to pay more for chocolate, boats, coffee....

"which included specific types of gherkins, prepared meals, pizza, chocolate, condiments, toiletries, beer kegs, whiskies, various household items, and motorboats."
Punishing the poor and middle for the "ideals" of the incompetents .... that's the Liberal way!
This ought to send the leftatics and media machine into a foaming raging rant!
Harper: PM resisting new NAFTA deal to score partisan advantage
https://www.ctvnews.ca/harper-pm-res...tage-1.4020749
Earlier this month, former prime minister Stephen Harper made a damning allegation about the Trudeau government’s NAFTA negotiations: They are resisting making a deal to score partisan advantage by standing up to an unpopular U.S. president.
"The reality is that the Government of Canada believes today that is it doing very well, the fight with Trump is good for it politically, it is winning," Harper says in an audio recording obtained by CTV News.
"So if it can take that fight and continue it, and more importantly paint conservatives as linked to Donald Trump, this is great for them. And so right now that is the strategy they are on," Harper said in the recording of his remarks at a private luncheon hosted by the Australia-Canada Economic Leadership Forum in Montreal on July 11.
Speak the truth and the left will go nuts!
Brian talking about the facts the Libs are selling out Canada to get votes ...

Justin is still at it.... the Liberal media won't report the fact that Justin didn't come to the call when Trump called him on Monday.... the day they signed the deal with Mexico.... the interviewer says the obvious that they Liberals are actually trying to sabotage the deal. Trump brought up automotive tarrifs again..... he got the Mexican's to agree to higher wages for their workers.... tariffs on Canada ... Mexican jobs might not go but it looks like there go more jobs to the US from Canada.
