I understand a OFAH membership is required to hunt simcoe county forests.
If it is because insurance is required by the county then why would being a member of the CSSA also not qualify?
unlike the OFAH coverage the CSSA is not third party.

That's a good question if it's all about insurance,but,I think it's much more than that. That's a question for The Simcoe County Forest executive and the OFAH. Are you saying that Simcoe County Forest is open to OFAH members only because they're insured? Somehow,I doubt that.
Ofah insurance is a joke, it's only ever touched after all other sources of coverage are exhausted. It's "excess" insurance coverage.
It's likely the county relies on input and help from ohaf and they see it as good faith that if you hunt it you should contribute, but I'm just talking out my @$$ and have no idea the real reason.
I do know ofah insurance is not all it's advertised to be.
The OFAH probably convinced local counsel to allow them to monitor the forest with regards to insurance. That way local counsel doesn't have to do anything,
EX.....OFAH member? good you have insurance, you can stay and hunt......Not a member, we can't be expected to find out if you do have the right or even enough insurance, get OFAH insurance or stay out...
Probably something like that... not right but it makes it easy to enforce.
Wonder how they would enforce this? Would a provincial C.O. want to bother with a local municipal matter? Would a county employ be authorized to ask a member of the public for a OFAH membership?
I asked this question, didn't get a clear answer. OFAH has some influence, I guess this way they can get more members.

It almost looks like landowners are trying to mitigate any liability if someone gets injured. I can't see what difference it would make. Where fees are being charged for entry to private property,the owners are on the hook no matter how many "Use at own risk" signs they put up.Quote:

I always thought it was a good idea, because it eliminated a lot of the city "yahoos".
It also means that in order to use the public forests you have to be ponying up to support wildlife. Which I agree with, so whatever the reason, more membership money means stronger representation for our interests and bigger wildlife initiatives.
Makes sense to me.

Rookie you are misinformed if you think more membership to the OFAH equals a stronger voice except maybe to create more jobs in the OFAH.
Don't be fooled by free kids weekends and free pop and chips .That don't cut the mustard today.We have REAL issues confronting us today,we need a strong organization that can bring these isuues to the forefront and actually represent the interests of the provinces hunters and fisherman.Not tip toe thru the tulips.
Back in 1996 in this province we were an inch away from having handgun hunting reinstated.
It was the OFAH which squashed it.
Maybe because it was to be reinstated in some northern Ont WMU's only and we all know n Ont is not high on their priority list.
They got their feet up on the desk,they need a good shake up.
They recently voted in a new president which promised to do just that.
He lasted a month before their little boys club got rid of him on a technicality.He wasn't towing the line.

because of there obvious political bias,you cannot afford to support any Provincial party in this Province because you will be left wandering the desert while they are not in power and the damage done is very long lasting. Speaking of Simcoe County, I am having trouble obtaining information on legal calibers within the forest. I understand each county may have different ones, but I just want to shoot a .22 and don't want to get into any unnecessary trouble. Does anyone know where this information can be found? I've been scouring www.county.simcoe.on.ca but have yet to find it the info. Thanks.
If it's not listed in any of the by-laws,then,it reverts to the FWCAct. Most regional municipalities re-wrote their by-laws many years ago when the new FWCA was enacted in 1997 to avoid duplication and/or conflict. A full list can be found in The Summary as to which municipalities require .275 caliber or less under Small Game section.Quote:

Yeah it seems that way, I even emailed the township, I'll report back my findings. But from what I gather you are correct, no target shooting definitely, but I should be able to chase some small game. Thanks for the feedback!
