IMO...Previous to this new law (policing)... Criminals were afraid to carry a gun (afraid they would be searched) so they (criminals)would hide their guns and not have them on their possession (too much risk). If gangs got into a conflict, they would have to leave to get those hidden guns, then either they calmed down and let it go (not worth the trouble) or came up with a plan to use those guns carefully so they wouldn't/don't get caught with them..... Then about a year ago, a law was past. Police can no longer search or even ask known criminals about their activities.................. Gangsters now know this and are carrying their guns around on their persons knowing full well police are not allowed to do anything about it.... So now feeling brave, when something/conflict does take place, those gangsters react instantly... There is no cool off time for them because they have guns on them no longer hidden away.... Give the cops the tools to do their job effectively.....after all they are front line workers that used to be able to prevent a lot of this... Banning guns isn't the answer, arresting the criminal is....

I am with you on this Frank, this is also another boondoggle created by the fed. liberals, "no more carding/ checks ".

Street checks were a very valuable tool for intelligence gathering. There have been many examples of intelligence gathered by street checks being instrumental in solving serious crimes.
This spike in crime was predicted by police chiefs when the carding was eliminated.

There are many examples of carding catching wanted criminals. They were checking people but maybe not carding and caught the one they thought was involved in the boxing day shooting of the young woman a few years back and he wasn't the shooter BUT was caught with a loaded gun .... less than a month after serving 30 days for armed robbery... the courts are a bigger issue in many cases. I wonder what would happen if say the judge was held responsible for criminals released or charges dismissed for 3 or 6 months .... even just a financial penalty and recording it on their record. Say for example that armed robber when rearrested had that information even just added to the record of the judge that gave the 30 days... we don't know the details but 30 days for armed robbery, caught with a handgun a few weeks after releases .... something is really wrong and there are thousands of cases like that!

The libs and criminals and their supporters more and more want the police to be like wooden statues on the corner, decoration .... unless of course it involves themselves. The grandma heckler found that out in Quebec what the left want police for.

I think you are right; no easy answers to the "carding" rules.

yes it seems the bad guys have all the rights at their disposal but the honest gun owner and sportsman take the brunt of all the negative press the media is so quick to provide to the general public. Just my opinion, but a lot of people just want to ban guns all together because of it, some who have no clue about hunting, wildlife management and sport shooting.

Excellently illustrated. Everyone seems to forget that laws enacted to "alleviate" the criminal element in one segment of society can be applied to all segments of society. People that think it would be a great idea to stop others and demand ID in "troubled" neighborhoods need to be reminded that it will apply to them,too,in their cushy,upscale suburban neighborhood. Others who think it's a good idea to hammer the h**l out of those who misuse firearms forget that those laws also apply to hunters and target shooters who may commit a minor infraction with their firearm and end up in court accused of a firearm offense that could land them in jail for a few years under mandatory sentencing requirements. The old adage is absolutely true "Be careful what you wish for. You might just get it."

' Funny That " but when it was being done, " carding " a friend of mine a cop was able to pull 3 handguns 2 real and one imitation , off the streets and have the individuals charged.
Two of these where white, the other was not. How they were caught ? they were hanging around late at night by variety stores and 1 at a Shoppers Drug Mart , waiting for an opportunity.
My friend caught them by driving up in an unmarked cruiser and watched them from a distance in the super market parking lot.
Carding did work, now with the law being changed, the police have nothing to work with unfortunately.

It’s not just the “carding”. Leo can’t even approach someone and see what they are up to without telling them they don’t have to talk to the Leo, and tell them how to complain and who to complain to !! Consequently, Leo just keep driving !

My addition to this, when the cops catch them, it's a matter of hours before they're back on the street, why the judges and judicial system sucks. Gilroy to, actually, unlike many has experienced life in Regent Park. Oddly enough during the same years I was there. Policing back then was different, cops were trusted to a degree, and they certainly didn’t target black youth saying “papers please”. Despite that, they knew who the bangers were, who were good kids. What today we refer to as at risk youth.

Not sure what has changed over the years. While the residents in these communities may not have always been exactly best chums with the cops, there was a level of respect and trust back then, that is utterly absent today. Dunno maybe it has something to do with being treated differently, like criminals and papers please

What you said , holds a lot of truth.
Geographical areas, where you are born /raised/ lived/ do not necessarily mean that you will wind up on the wrong side of the law, that is solely up to that particular individual to decide which way to go.
There are many people that grew up in disadvantaged neighbor hoods and became very successful.

If you decide to take the wrong path, this is something that no one else is forcing you into, it is a decision only you as an individual can make, it doesn't matter what colour you are white,black, yellow or red , if you also dress in a certain way and your actions cause the police to look you over closely, you most definitely will be watched and should be, after all this is/was the police officers job.
However , the police are now denied the right to closely scrutinize people and the whole system is very quickly going down the drain as we are seeing now. :(

I grew up with no advantages or privileges.
My parents came over from Europe as CNR IMMIGRANTS,dad had the equivalent of 5 dollars when they landed in Quebec in 1928. From there they were shipped via train to Fosston Sask. where dad had to work on the railway for a minimum of 1 year , turned to 2 .
While they were out there , Mom and Dad lived in a converted "chicken coop "
They then worked their way to Kitchener and the depression set in. Times were very tough they lived in poor neighborhoods.
They then moved to Galt On. where dad found work in a foundry[hard work].
I was born during the war and times were still tough, believe me , I or my older brother and sister then my younger bother had absolutely no advantages or privileges, we were poor but we all made it without resorting to hanging out with gangs or the criminal types.
Clothes that I wore were hand me downs , most of the time my pants had patches sewn onto patches which the other kids laughed at , same went for my younger brother, there were no advantages at all.
My older sister went through a lot also as she didn't have the nice cloths that the others did, till she was older and started working part time and bought some of her own cloths.
The Police in Galt , knew us all as most of them went to the same Church we did.

Don't give me any of that B.S. about advantages and privileges,because you have absolutely no idea of what we went through' there were no ball games or hockey, football for us , as we had to come home and work around the small garden , then a larger one as this is what kept us living and the family together.

One thing my father instilled in us was RESPECT , and also said to do nothing that would besmirch the FAMILY NAME , which we never did to this day.

Sure, it is economic and it's also parental and left behind and unfair and bla bla bla ...... Those "why" have nothing to do with stopping, controlling and questioning someone that looks like to have bad intentions. the criminals don’t obey the law, won’t register their guns, won’t tell the truth, give their real names, give their real address, their friends names or address. Nor will they subject themselves to a search so a “cough” gun can be found...... “So what’s the point”?

The issue is the courts, sentencing (like Libs reducing sentences C-75) and the public acceptance, the criminally minded and sympathetic will never like it... I didn't like all the times I was stopped for drunk driving checks BUT I was actually kind of glad they were doing it since I knew one less a***** was off the road if caught.

This is actually quite interesting to me. The abuse that JBen used to regularly dish out to other members on this forum was appalling and one of the reasons I basically became inactive on this forum and barely ever read it anymore. If that was the case with me, how many other members were soured from this forum because of a negative user whose basic manners towards others are an embarrassment at best?

Overall, this is a great site for people who want to share opinions and discuss many different topics in a respectful manner. I hope disruptive users with their own agenda will actually be managed accordingly. Thank you for posting the above. It's nice to know I'm not the only one who feels this way.

I would like the mods to follow the rules :o , and insist others do the same. Or why have them?:confused:
