Never....too much work..... I always use some kind of light face mask though
only a face mask, more so to protect from wind rather than concealment
Face mask here. Helps keep bugs away, bit of a wind break or sun protection. Make up is for evening wear and to look cool in videos.

Just a Mask
If i use it i only use it during Turkey Season, When its hot I hate having a mask on. I just use the cheap Three in on stick I got From Sail. It takes no time with the three sticks. I keep baby wipes in the truck for at the end of the hunt to wipe it off.
Mask is a lot easier. In the spring me and a buddy head out for breakfast after a morning hunt.
Removing make up would be a pain in the #ss.
Leaving it on might frighten the patrons.
I have to wear glasses while hunting so breathing into a mask tends to fog them up.
Camo face paint is a bit of a pain though. I got into using a lighter and wine cork. Burn the end of the cork, let it cool and rub it on. Works great and cleans up easier than paint.

For deer I don't use either. If I see a deer coming I just sort of tuck my chin into my jacket, unless of course I have my Excalibur up. TC
I get the Halloween face paint from the dollar store and keep wet wipes in my truck. I don't use facemasks since they can interfere with my anchor at full draw.
I have used a streak or 2 of mud while deer hunting. You just have a dirty face , the most of it brushes off easily. old243
I used lots in the army but for hunting I prefer a mask etc. That way when I'm on the way home I can just throw on a regular jacket and go shopping for groceries or beer without looking strange!

For bow hunting, I wear a face mask. I have a lighter one for early in the year that's not much more than netting. I also always wear gloves as well.
Rifle hunting, I don't bother with it.
I'll start off by saying that overall I really like the OFHA magazine. There is always lots of interesting stuff in the magazine. In this latest issue however (fall 2018), they did a face paint article "Face Value". I appreciate that the author pointed out that having a face cover, breaking up the shape of your face and cutting glare is a good idea - no argument. He then goes on to show a bunch of ridiculous face paint patterns and "evaluates" them. There are a bunch of issues here, but it all culminates in an "editors pick" to go "full commando". ...
I have a few camo insulated undershirts with hood and 3/4 mask built into it. They are nice I wear it waterfowl/turkey and bow hunting. I have never used face paint
This is the first year in gonna give the face paint a try....i find my face mask really starts to stink after a few hunts picked up face paint on Amazon for $10
I'm a big fan of face paint but I mostly just use the black and some of the brown and green, basically enough to break up the white face glow. With a mask especially in the cold with my white camo I find my glasses always fog up and if I have a hood up as well then when I turn my head the mask doesn't always turn the same and my vision is compromised. Cleanup after is easy and doesn't bother me at all.
Cheers
Another vote for burnt cork, works great and way easier to remove plus it's cheap (and the bonus is you get drunk acquiring it :))
Mask's make it too hard to operate a duck/goose call plus they are always in the way.
+1 on burnt cork. Easy on, easy off, it's flat, so cuts down on any sheen. Plus if you like single malt...you get a convenient plastic holder/handle....
Another +1 on the burnt cork. Have one of those small packets of baby wipes after the hunt and it comes right off. Breaks up your facial profile and takes some of the glare off the water as well. Masks for me get in the way of calling.

People are attuned to human faces and we see them even when they aren't there. Animals, not so much. So that's the basic flaw.
For face camo it's sufficient to just darken that skin tone, which stands out like a sore thumb.

Most of my experience with hunters wearing face paint, are the goose mafia black hoodie kill em all krew that learned their art on youtube and foiles videos. My apologies to those that don't fall into that category, but those fellas have made me steer clear of anyone in face paint. I've never had a problem running a call with a face mask, and have killed a bird or two in my time. ymmv
I use the war paint. I have several tubes left over from my military service. The old metal tubes with a dark green and a light green stick.
