Hey Folks;
How early do you all get to the stands in the morning for Moose ?
For deer our crew gets in a full hour before sunrise: but we seem divided for the Moose hunt.
Main thought is that Moose are travelling all day and travel greater distances than deer :therefor not as critical to be in so early
Set up your watch the day before,then,scram and let the area "cool down". Then,at least one hour BEFORE official sunrise,set up your watch as quickly and as quietly as possible,sit down and sit still except to uncase and load at the proper time.

Just didn't know if Moose where indifferent to hunters walking in?
We often see Moose when walking out from Deer hunting and the Moose doesn't seem to be bothered- they just slowly disappear
It’s like seeing a ton of turkeys deer hunting. It’s like they know they are safe. They literally have watched me climb my stand and then come hangout under it with 20 friends all night till it’s time to roost.
Our group went in when it was light enough to see, nothing worse than walking into branches poking you in the eye, tripping over things making a lot of noise stumbling around.
I have always said that I have never shot a moose before 9 a.m., and over the years I have shot plenty.
It is difficult to "go in" quietly in the dark but I do my best. Last year, while in my ground blind, I recall hearing a large animal walk by in the dark (5-6yrds) , the noise was horrendous, large cracking/branches like a freight train. 2hrs later, deer down.Quote:

For that reason we would time our drive so that we arrived just in time to take the guns out of the case, load up and walk quietly in. We shot more moose walking to our spots than when we were sitting.
Of course this depends on what the area you're hunting is like. My example was walking in quietly on logging roads through cuts and new growth.
For deer I always get in before legal light, for moose I like to walk while it's legal to shoot.

Never been on a moose hunt where we went in and sat at our stands in the dark. Usually get to our spots just before legal shooting light. Been successful most years.
Just after legal light in the AM. Sit until about sunset (go back to camp from about 11-1 for lunch).
My camp never has an issue filling tags (WMU 49). We literally a bull standing on the lawn last weekend at 1130 in the morning.
If you know there’s Moose where you plan to sit, and you have the area covered by your group, your better off getting there an hour before daylight. If your wandering around looking for Moose, than you might as well start when it’s light. IMO
