So I have a doe and yearling ( technically a fawn I guess ) going through my ground blind area regularly.Since this yearling is with her all of the time how likely is it that a buck will be interested in her ? Will she go into eustrus or skip it to look after the yearling ? Today was the first time I saw the pair break cover and graze the field during daylight (5 minutes to sunset ). Is this a sign of the rut being on the verge of kicking off ?
The doe should go into heat...... the little guy/fawn can take care of themselves, I have heard that in some cases (rare I would think) fawns may come into heat too.
A fawn that goes into heat will be later than the other does estrous cycle.
On my property I hunt I have a button buck that was born in early May I have been watching him and mommy all summer long I’ve got many pictures of them to geather on Friday she came into estrus and the button buck is now back with mommy as of yesterday morning but he had been buy him self up until then so the doe will come into estrus at some point for you and the bucks will come just wait for it
Like any other animal, nature is nature and you can’t stop there normal cycle.
As Fratri said, that Doe can definately come into estrous. Keep hunting her over food, the buck will eventually show and hopefully you'll be in the right place at the right time.
A yearling is a year and a half old deer. Last years fawn.
I've read or heard that a fawn can come into estous and be bred if they're born early enough and can reach at least 90 lbs before the last stage of breeding.
Even if the young fawn does not come into estrous but is a frequent visitor to your field to feed. You better believe you have the best live decoy possible right there. Bucks during the rut are extremely curious as well. Much more then the rest of the year. She will draw him out for a look as well. Just be ready!!

Yes, I’ve read the same thing. The fawn will have had to been on some good groceries to pack on the weight and reach sexual maturity.
So.... Haven't been seeing much at all during the day.... I know they are coming through the area at night and actually finally got a picture of what will be my target buck. Is the rut in Eastern Ontario winding down ? Will they start moving during the day ?

He is a damned horse... His hoof print is half the size of my winter boot. Just found a scrape the other night. It was two paces long.
