My wife is a fair weather crossbow hunter. Gets out with me 4 - 5 times a year. She's still looking for her first deer but it will come; she sits as still as a pine cone!
My wife has her license, has been out for turkey, grouse, geese and deer, she has been able to connect with some geese but nothing else yet. Our daughter has made things interesting, she wants to get out to get some quiet but also does not want to leave her when she is having a moment. Our daughter has her first rifle already but still too young to go shooting.
Woman hunter here. I've hunted ruffies, sharpies, woodcock, snipe, rabbits, wild pheasants and as well as plenty of released pheasants & chukars locally with my Weims.
I wish my Wife would hunt or sit with me.
I have a better chance of winning the Lottery though than getting her involved in hunting...lol
My daughter hunts waterfowl with me, and a friend of hers where they go to hunt at Hullet.
This past saturday she went somewhere on her own with her 2 Labs. and came back with pheasants that she had shot.
As a matter of fact , we are going duck/goose hunting later this afternoon.
Karen is always asking me if there are women that hunt on the forum. I can say yes, but without having a flag on the profile to tell who is who it's hard to tell her how many.
I don't think it matters if someone is a guy or girl when it comes to hunting, but women trying to find other on a male dominated forum is hard.
I think it would be good, but there would be problems. Is it a ladies only? Will they have to post in other threads to ask questions simply because the small number of ladies can't answer all the questions? Should it be mainly a thread for finding each other, or a section for lady related threads?
Time will tell.
Yes, she does. I have tried to get her to take the dog and go out by herself, but she needs more confidence at this point. She mainly hunts rabbits, squirrels, and grouse. She gets a bear tag, and two ( the max allowed) wolf seals when we go up north, but we don't actively hunt bear or wolf, but with the tags we can legally deal with an approach that is too close.
She has two shotguns( 12o/u 20pump) .223 rifle, 10/22 and her air rifle. She has shot more birds with the air rifle then the shotgun:thumbup:.
My wife is also not confident enough to hunt on her own yet, although I stay back at the cabin with our little one and she goes out. I can take time off work to hunt but she gets a weekend and a couple days during the week to get out there.
She will not hunt rabbits, we raise them for meat but she will not kill the meat ones either, had them as pets when she was a kid.
I need to get her out on grouse next year, nice and warm and a good time for her to go for a walk with the 20ga.
She has been beside me on 1 deer and 1 turkey, just was not the trigger man (person) on those occasions, just not lucky yet.
My wife had a habitat of over dressing for a hunt, getting over heated and then wanting to go home. Couple years ago three of us( her, me, and friend) went duck hunting at hullet. It was overcast and cold, with rain and wind going from light and breezy to down pours and gale force winds at times. She underdressed for the weather and got sick, but she never complained a word the whole day. All day she just said she was a little cold but doing fine.
If she'd not been my wife at the time, I would probably asked her to marry me on the spot.
We have a young lady that hunts with us. She has a one year old but grandma babysits when needed. She took a spike a couple years back and will be out in ML season at least a few times. I will be giving up my ml’s to those of the gang that have been unsuccessful so far this year. Hopefully she will poke a buck.
She is a much better shot than her spouse - I never miss an opportunity to rub that in!
It’s good to see and wish we would see more ladies take up the hunt.
I repeatedly try to convince a friend of mine who is now retired to come out for venison and she may very well do that next year. We hunt her land so she knows what our gang is all about.
My wife shoots with me she really enjoys shooting my 223 and 22 and crossbow she really enjoys when her target is better than mine also my daughter comes out and shes 23 and she uses a 22 and we set up ballons etc and look out starts on one end and is done I cannt charge the mags fast enough ,
My wife has really taken to deer hunting. She got her second deer this year and it was her first buck, a nice mature 8pt. She’s a very good shot, her first deer was 210 yds quartering away, perfectly placed dropped on the spot. This years buck was 140yds on a steady walk broadside, again perfectly placed dropped in his tracks. We have box blinds with pre ranged quick reference charts inside so she’s comfortable and confident. She’s a better shot with a rifle than me and I’m better than average, but with a shotgun she’s pretty bad and that unfortunately discourages her from going out for waterfowl or upland.
I got her a really nice Browning silver hunter 20gauge auto loader to try and coax her back out.
I have hunted for the last 44 years, 43 of which were with my hubby. I hunt grouse, water fowl, rabbit and deer. I have retrievers I hunt with that are owner trained. I had always wanted to hunt but my dad would never take me but my sweet hubby helped me get started and I have never looked back.
This is my daughter in law Shari, on her second season bow hunting. My son and I had been taking her with us for a few years when she asked if she could take the hunter education course, so she to could hunt with us. We were all for it, and started the process of training her to become a new hunter.
I must say that it's been a great pleasure having her and my son as hunting partners!!! The pic is of her and I with her first deer taken this past weekend, and shot placement was not a problem as you can see.Attachment 37702Attachment 37703
My daughter hunts. She makes it up for moose and tries to get out for deer and ducks when she can but she has little time.
Well, my wife has an 8 pointer on the wall and got two more bucks this year. One 10 pointer and another 8 pointer not including the 2 broken tines. All with 100’s of hours on watch and with her bow.
You guys are lucky.
I’ve got city folk!
That second picture--I had to take a second look at what I thought was one really ugly kid sitting there in a white t shirt. Enlarging it shed a bit more light, so to speak.
