Where are all the jack rabbit hunters this year anybody have any luck so far this year
I think they are all waiting for some snow. That’s my guess ?
We've been out , but lack of snow has limited our ability to see any at all !! Hope for snow and see some tracks and Jacks !
I’m willing to join a group if someone needs another guy to push with them. Just putting it out there? Send me a pm
i snuck out for an hour in the backwoods. a few tracks here and there but more partridge busting making a scene than anything.
I have not seen even tracks over the last couple of years.
It appears there aren't so many Jacks left around, and only few old timers still hunt them specifically.
I have been doing quite a bit of driving around Southern Ontario recently for work. MtForest, Harriston, Dundalk , Shelburne, Stayner, Tweed, Lyndsay, Campbellford and haven’t seen a single Jack track. We used to hunt them every weekend. Haven’t been out in 2 years.
Us Vaughan guys have been out. Haven’t seen one yet but there are some tracks out there. We drove around last weekend and 4 seperate tracks running one of my permissions. Went yesterday and not a track to be found.... go figure! Good old days are definately gone! Coyotes doing good job of pushing jacks out of the area!
Haven't seen a jack track this year. Several cottontails around our buildings. A few swamp rabbit tracks in the bush. Several coyotes are regulars as well as a fox or two. Our area used to be great jack country. Before the cash croppers arrived , and took out all the cross fences. No brushy fence rows mean no cover , to raise young. Coyotes have trimmed out a lot of game. Used to be lots of ground hogs here as well , they are missing as well. old243
I hope this is not the end of Jack Rabbit Hunting !!! From what i am hearing , all around the province very little sign of tracks !
I have been Hunting them since i was 15yrs old and will be out in February with my Guys !
Too many coyotes and the lack of cover have spelled there demise here in Ontario. We still go out, but we are chasing ghosts! I find that any good signs are around people’s houses and good luck getting permission. Very frustrating!
Been a while since I've targeted Jacks and although occasionally get the urge to get after them really don't know if the legs could handle it. If I were to go out the biggest challenge would be stringing enough property together. These days of subdivided farms getting permission on one property is hard enough trying to access a whole valley almost impossible.
You local Jack guys if you're so inclined twist my arm if you got space..... doctors says I could use the cardio.
Coyotes, hawks, farm pesticides, agricultural fields being plowed right to the end of cover, loss of fence hedgerows. I could go on. I see the odd track while crossing fields to get to my cottontail spots but not many. They have all but disappeared from the places I use to find them. Very sad.
