I could only hunt until 830am so I had my dog loaded at daylight looking for fresh tracks. Dad calls and says two coyotes crossed the road heading behind the barn so by the time i got there they were long gone into the bush.
Soon as my dog hit the track he was going ballistic so I let him go. About 2 minutes later he's in the bush so I made the long walk to the back fence line between the two bushes were they usually cross.
5 minutes later hear comes one of the coyotes along the fence line right for me, stopping every few steps to look back. (The dog was running the other coyote) I let it come to about 100 yards then I shot as I was worried it was going to wind me if any closer. One down
I figured the other one would come same way so I waited. I could tell my dog was right on the coyote just by the way he was barking. My dad was at the barn listening and heard me shoot so he started to watch . Hes always got the gun nearby. Then I hear a shot from the barn. Dog still going nuts in the bush long ways from where the shot came from so I wasn't sure it was us.
Dad ended up shooting the coyote on his laneway about 75 yards from the house. This third coyote was trying to sneak out the house laneway to the road LOL
Next thing I know the dog is heading north to the next property where it's the last property before the major road. I just got to the paved road to watch the coyote cross. Thankfully the dog was a piece behind it and I got there in time to tackle my dog in the ditch before he made it across the road. Cant hunt over there so that coyote lives another day.
Dog wasn't very happy but I took him back to the farm and let him trail the two dead ones and he was happy again lol
Then the snow started pretty hard so I quit, was late for my appointment, got reamed out for it but was still so worth it haha
Both these coyotes got head shot so pretty graphic photos but the one my dad got was a very old coyote. All canine teeth are wore down to nubs and missing a bunch in the front. Both males too hides were decent I skinned them both.
That's 4 coyotes in 3 days shot in that field. I got one Thursday night and Friday night as well just sitting near dark. So many turkeys back there I think the coyotes are trying to get them when they roost as the noise they make flying and falling out of the trees every night. Find alot of Turkey kills in the bush.
