The parents or adult watched the yote go in the backyard then let the kids go play where the yote just went. Then was surprised the kid got attacked. I feel bad for the kid and thank god it wasn’t worse, but a dumb move from the adult.
We can't blame the parents. Most "city folk" don't know what a Coyote is. To them,it looks like someone's pooch running off-leash. This happens around here every now and then with Coyotes running out of the bush attacking dogs people are walking. Our area is over run with the farkin' things. It's not uncommon to see them sitting on the front lawn late in the evening or early in the morning. Garbage day is just a riot.Quote:

Basically the mob, all of whom live in houses of course, are blaming it on the development of houses.
That is an attack, not just a coyote running thru the yard and bumping into the kid. It watch the two of them and selected the smaller. I don't know if the parents made any noise because there is no sound, but the next move after the kid hit the ground would have been a bite(s) to the neck or throat.
Unless I’m missing something, I don’t see where an adult watched this yote prior to the kids going into the back yard. The kids were not even looking for it, and appeared not to even know it was in the yard. They ran to something that looked like a stake in the yard. The yote came from the right and jumped the smaller child....Quote:

That coyote is clearly looking for an easy meal. Likely used to snatching young rabbits, squirrels from around houses this time of the year.
Sees a small figure that is likely making high pitch noises (the young girl) coyote goes into instant predator mode and attacks. Zero fear of human interaction as you can see in the first part of the video with the lady not far away with coyote still mousing around.
More bad press for coyotes and what I think is great for getting hunting permission.
I know where 5 coyote dens are so far this spring. We were pretty hard on them last winter so I think there will he a bumper crop this year.

Look closely at the coyote, lack of a furry tale, and what appears to be lack of fur on the shoulders, this indicates it has mange.
The two kids and the adult woman appear to be Asians , so they would likely not know what a coyote is or looks like therefore would not be expecting any danger "from a dog/pup running through the neighborhood".
This time of year , all coyotes are out scrounging for food to feed their young and often are very bold.
Crazy how the coyote would be traveling through a very urban neighborhood in broad daylight. When I read about coyotes in cities I had this vision in my head they stick to gullies, river bottoms and greenspace during the day and maybe forage into the open areas after dark. That's scary as hell to think that thing has no fear of humans and is willing to hunt in the wide open during the day. Maybe it is sick with mange and starving but strange, disturbing behavior nonetheless.
Looks to me like the neighbor that saw it originally came back and was pointing to back yard and talking to parents when they saw the kids run to back yard, just happened quickly. Also the yote went after the girl who was running which will trigger their predatory instincts.
