Landowners/Farmers Control Hunt Deer Tag

Can a hunter with a Landowner/Farmers Controlled Deer tag hunt on other parcels on land with permission ??

IIf you are a landowner and meet the criteria, you buy a regular deer licence and apply in the controlled hunt in your WMU. You are guaranteed to get a controlled validation, and can hunt on any land in that controlled hunt WMU. If you buy the cheaper farmers deer tag, you are confined to hunt directly around your farm.
Landowners I hunt with buy the regular deer licence and apply (guaranteed) to the controlled hunt in our WMU. The farmers deer tag, and farmer/landowner controlled validation are two different things..

That's my understanding,also. My son has a farmer's tag for 72A. He may hunt on his property,only. To come to the camp with us,he needs a regular tag.

I’ll continue to apply for the regular Control Hunt tag as I have for the past number of years.
Landowners/Farmers Control Hunt restrictions is not worth the hassle.

That's how we roll with the landowner permit. Unless success rate drops below 100% than we'll go that way.

The landowner hunt is a different hunt, it just allows you to get in to the controlled hunt with no draw. The controlled hunt lets you hunt in that entire WMU or sub unit as specified in the documentation when you receive your tag, it does not limit you to only hunting on your land. There is also a farmers deer license/tag, this can be more restrictive, I heard it limits to a country but I am not sure as you have to be an OFA member I believe to get one and my dad is just a landowner so we cannot get the cheaper farmers deer tag.

Please explain this further I would qualify for farmers tag I own enough acreage and am a OFA member

So say I apply for control hunt in my WMU and don’t draw a tag
can I then apply for a farmers/landowners tag

Cause I would really be pissed as a landowner if I didn’t get a tag.

In my group there are 3 of us that would qualify for farmers tag but where told we couldn’t hunt on the others property’s?

You automatically get a controlled hunt validation because of your farm/ landowner situation.
You will be able to hunt on any property within the WMU you have applied for.. with permission obviously.
A cheaper farmers tag only allows you to hunt on your land.

You are talking about 2 different things.

There is a Controlled hunt, that application is to allow you to be able to hunt. As a landowner you can go into the Service Ontario office and get a form to fill out, this will allow you to get your validation along with anyone who is a direct relative without entering the general Controlled hunt pool. The hunt is at the same time but you will not have to be drawn. You then use your first deer tag as your tag for this hunt following the rules set in the validation for the Controlled hunt. You do not apply for the Controlled hunt in this case, you just go down the office and fill out the form and you get your validation sent to you.

The farmers tag is a different thing, this is a lower cost license to hunt deer that has been put out for farmers, this is the one that I believe you need to be a OFA member for. From what I recall talking to the farmers is that this tag does not limit you to your home farm but rather a district, could be the county that your farm is located. There used to be additional farmers tags as well but this year in most WMUs there are no extra tags for controlled hunts.

Why not try going in and talking to someone at the MNRF office in the off season. At this point in time you missed the deadline for the controlled hunt and the landowners form to be submitted so anything here is moot this year.

I have been getting a landowner's controlled hunt tag for a number of years. I had to go directly to a MNR district office/ service Ontario with the completed form and they would issue you the permit on the spot.

WMU 80 is alot bigger than Waterloo County(normally known as Waterloo Region) The Farmers Deer tag is a different thing, it's your actual tag and there is a whole set of rules for obtaining that, different from the rules of the controlled hunt tag or permit. Bottom line is check the regulations carefully or make a phone call, as these rules seem to change at any given time.

The direct relative, son, daughter, grandchild etc is still in effect. A buddy got their tags and validations this year.

What time of year do you do the landowners permit ?

I've gone in and got the permits right up until the week before the controlled hunt. I think they use to say they are available after a certain date in early October but I couldn't find that in this years reg book. I always went to the service Ontario on Stone Road in Guelph. The Ontario Government building.

I applied on line for the land owners controlled hunt and got a tag for the WMU the land is in.
