Sorry for your loss Sharon. It isn't much but if pictures soften the blow happy it helps.

4 flushes on Sunday. North west of Barrie.
Oh, Sharon, so sorry to hear it. Losing a pet is heartbreak. My Mum had to put her terrier down last month; he was blind and waking up in the night, confused and soiling his bed, and had bitten a couple of people in the household. He was a very good pup and I'm sure yours was, too. Plus, all dogs go to heaven, right?
Sharon.
I've been there many times. Our condolences.
We put up 10 on Sunday on the Niagara peninsula.
Fiqured they be stalled down there. Put up 4 this morning 3 looked like they've been in place for a few days one I'd have to speculate just arrived.

We have a single male at Burnt River who's been peenting for the past two nights. There are so few Woodcock now I almost forgot what they sound like. Our property has been almost completely devoid of grouse now for the past 4 years. It's got to be West Nile. It's an emotional treat now to even see a grouse!
A pair of woodcock yesterday and a grouse today.
First one pointed on the farm this afternoon.

Do you folks not see anything wrong with intentionally running (hunting) your dogs on birds that are in closed season? They're breeding here at my place right now and will be on eggs in two weeks. Doesn't seem legal, or ethically correct in my books. Kind of like shooting yourself in the foot. We've lost 70% of our continental population of these birds since 1968, and we're losing another 1.4% of the population every year.
I wasn’t targeting them. My dog bumped it in an area I’ve never seen one before. Regardless, it flew away fairly unmolested as far as I could tell.
I think most people stop working dogs on them abruptly once the first nests with eggs are observed.
You have a point there :)
Most birds move through my area fairly quickly, the few that stay here to breed move around until they find a quiet spot.
I do not go bushwacking, just walk the same trails, so if the dogs spook a bird, it just moves into a slightly different area. No harm done.
Just saw a report of a woodcock nest with eggs in the Ottawa area. Till we meet in October...
Yes, it's early this year but I quit two days ago.
