We need our Outdoors life back

With the Covid,the stress,the isolation,with the lack of outdoors activities,with the lack of fresh adventures related to our favorite pastime............it is just me, or it seems the Forum is hitting a new low .
No offence to anyone.I still like to come on the Forum,but more and more there is not really much new,not much to read with any interest,just the same old and old and old.
Beating up the dead horse in several threads,over and over and over again.

No offence to anyone.I do respect anyone's right for opinion,and right to post,i do realize i do not "have" to be on this Forum at all too,but man,oh man.................

My rant for the day.

Agree 100%. I'd put them all on ignore but Id still see their threads, So kinda useless.

Yep.

Gonna start my bear baits up this weekend. Hopefully have something decent to post in the next month.

You still have your outdoors life, hunting and fishing are legal and so is walking around, hiking on crown land a whole wack of other things.

Cabin fever gets to everyone, I think the worst part of the Covid thing for my outdoor life is the range closure, should have run down there a few times before everything locked up but being a dad trumped that for me, and now we wait.

Lots of action in the turkey forum now. Not sure if you're a turkey hunter yourself. If not it's a good time to start! It's pretty common to get to a "low" around here at the end of winter into early spring. Then, turkey season and soft water fishing seasons start and people have new things to discuss.

Just cabin fever, exacerbated by the current shutdown situation. Start something interesting to discuss!

One of the benefits of turkey hunting is that you can do it alone or keep your distance from others while you do it. Taking your kids out with you, especially if you have a blind, can be fun. A very good year for turkey hunting with the milder and drier weather. Toms and Jakes are gobbling and the hens are calling. Some really big birds this year as well.

CA's,boat launches and county forests need to opened ASAP. There was no reason to close them in the first place,IMHO. People are spending too much time cooped up inside from the erroneous perception that it was a law that we stay in at home. In Durham Region,domestics are through the roof from frustration and just getting on each other's nerves.

Fox-in my neck of woods there is no crown land.If i go up north-no camping.If i want to go to a motel-who knows what is open.If.Here south there are CA's(mostly closed)Parks(all closed).I gave up on permission to hunt 20 year ago-not much takers for a guy who no one knows.I am not starting NOW in the virus area. I developed my style of hunting in CA's and Parks(pay for use most)It works for me..............So yeah ,hunting is open,so does flying in the space with SpaceX-if i have the means. Otherwise i never picked up turkey ,gave up after trying.Just not for me,i recon.Ranges closed,and walking around is not much topic for anyone .

My post was also geared towards the whole situation on the forum too.....some say it is cabin fever.......

Thanx GW11 - i gave up turkey hunting shortly after i started.Maybe because even then i was looking for deer signs(rubs,scrapes,beds)maybe because public land turkey hunting is even harder then public land deer hunting.Not crying-just saying.Fishing-that was a deal with my wife,either hunting or fishing(or none she said :silly:)so i stuck with hunting.Then work and then family.....
Maybe one day........

I will think about your idea to start some new thread/threads .Just something less talked about....

You're right about that, public land turkey hunting is even harder than public land deer hunting. Those of us that are lucky enough to own or have access to a good turkey property recognize that.

Unfortunately, the "virus" that infects most of these forums is politics. Maybe as a group we should work on calling each other out when it comes up and leaving politics where it belongs and out of other discussions. Most threads go immediately downhill when politics come into play.

You always bring a well balanced view to discussions gbk, don't be discouraged by the current state of things here. It'll turn around with the weather and the gradual easing of restrictions.

I'm thinking of an idea or two for new discussion as well. Hang in there!

So where do you go hunting? Farmers are not closing out their properties.

I grew up in KW, lots of places to go hunting, some public forests but mainly farms.

To me it sounds like you are not willing to adapt and taking the time to complain about it, that is fine. If you want to make an excuse to say it is closed to you then fine but the outdoors life is not closed, I was out for a bike ride yesterday, went for a walk today, no hunting, shooting, fishing involved but adapting as I have my toddler along with me now.

It is called reality, it is what it is, no use complaining about it, just gotta deal with it.

“Politics” is unavoidable...given its underlies near everything. For example. Gun control...And if not for Covid, there’s a decent chance, many of everyone Semis would today be prohibited....

What is “avoidable”, is picking apart ( politically correct) someone else’s perspective. People can express their own thoughts, without jumping on someone else’s. And there is an example in this thread....


The easiest way to do that, is don’t quote people. Especially, if you don’t see X the same way...it’s the difference between expressing a view point, your own...and trying to invalidate someone else’s...the moment you do that......it’s not about “your thoughts” on a subject.....

As for the topic, not likely to happen “soon”. All levels of government ( ooops, politics, my bad) are releasing the stipulations that must be met, before restrictions can be lifted for any given province/region. Worth reading if actually concerned, and want to get a loose idea for when you might be able to go fishing. Camping, hiking in a CA, “whatever”.

Really?! Well that's good to hear! My plans are in limbo with this current ban on crown land camping. Currently we're looking at doing a shorter, tenting style hunt, pushed back into June. But we'll see

As far as complaining goes-if You really read my original post,and try to understand it, You will see i was not complaining.

Doing self isolation is nothing new to me as I have been retired on a 100 acre farm for almost 3 years now. Just me and my dog. I do have family and friends back in Toronto suffering through this unprecedented event and worry about them. At one point I was hatching a plan to smuggle my daughter in law and grandkids down to the farm but the risk to my health and possible fines involved if caught put the kibosh on that idea. At last report we are winning against this virus and we will see better days ahead if only we stay the course. As for the same old blah blah on here ? Some of it has been down right entertaining watching opinions clash but then too disheartening to see a lack of civility we afford each other. So if there is one lesson I have learned from being an outdoorsman and I believe it is the most important one of all would be to have patience.

Lets change the topic(without hijacking the thread)-how are You in "retirement isolation" for 3 years.
My wife was once ill,and was away for 2 months.Our daughter out from the house by then.....Me alone.At the beginning it was a nightmare for me,but slowly got used to it.Actually when she came home,i was like-wow,that is different.Thanx

After 35 years of working at a wastewater treatment plant for the City of Toronto it coincided with my 60th birthday and Ta Da ! here I am. Here being the farm that my dad's old friend and hunting buddy owns. We had a family cottage at Long Point since 1952 but with my dad's passing it had to be sold. So as I always hunted deer and turkey on the farm ( 20 minutes to Long Point) it was offered to me to lease when I retired. There are neighbours in the area but I can still blast away off the back deck into 50 acres of woods. Some would say I'm "living the dream" but nobody tells you the dream requires a lot of work ie; 40 year old house needed a makeover, grass takes one full day to mow using a riding mower, deer stands need repair and the list goes on. This pandemic has put a damper on having beers with the locals but the nicer weather is coming and we are winning; so they say. Alone...yes. Lonely... no. I have a 105 Lbs of Chesapeake and she is a very good listener, not much of a talker but a great listener. LoL !

I think as the weather is opening -the restrictions will too,and by the end of May we will have our lives back.

I do not even want to take my boat out of storage yet.........not sure what would be worse knowing I cannot use it or looking at it every time I walk past my driveway knowing I cannot use it - LOL.
