Firearms maker Remington Arms Co. filed for bankruptcy protection

Firearms maker Remington Arms Co. filed for bankruptcy protection for the second time since 2018, weighed down by more debt than it can repay even as fearful Americans buy more guns than ever.

Remington, which supplies weapons for hunting, shooting sports, law enforcement and the military, sought chapter 11 protection and will try to sell its business at a time when civil unrest and worries about personal safety have driven firearm sales to record highs.

A surprising investor made a bid to do just that. Perhaps not surprisingly, Remington’s management rejected the offer.

The proposal came from the Navajo Nation, one of the largest Native American tribes in the country with more than 350,000 members and land holdings of more than 27,000 square miles in Arizona, New Mexico and Utah.

The Navajo Nation — which controls a $3.3 billion investment trust — sent a letter to Remington in May offering to buy the company for $475 million to $525 million, according to a draft of the letter reviewed by The New York Times. The tribe planned to pay for the purchase in cash.

Well up go the value of my real Marlins. To bad for Remington, should of taken the cash deal!!!

Ruger,Beretta, Kimber and Winchester will be licking their chops,now,won't they? It would be a wise move for one or more to buy up Remington after bankruptcy for pennies on the dollar,take over the patents and designs,then,collapse the company. Somebody will make a fortune out of this one if they play their cards right.

Agreed, 2 Christmas ago I bought the 597 model for my wife was on sale 240 for the scope model, she loves it we have put about 1000 rounds thru it, only issue is the way the charge handle is held it by this flimsy "spring" metal, well it got loose and fell out when she shot the last mag we went thru coudlnt find it now have to try and find a new charge handle, as well as see how I can get the retaining clip to not be so sloppy on the bolt. Thankfully I know a gunsmith and will see what he thinks would be my best way to attack this project when we find a charge handle that will actually ship to Canada or be back in stock in Canada lol

Bean counters and IE (industrial engineers/efficiency "experts") usually completely destroy a business within 24 months if given a free rein to make operating decisions. As soon as those dopes show up,dust off your resume because you'll need it within 36 months....tops.

Brings to mind the POFS 11-87 Super mag that I bought. Returned to Ilion 4 times for metal shredding off the breech block rails. They marketted the gun based on a 3" receiver. It couldn't take the 3.5" shell pressures and would self destruct. They went on to keep selling the defective gun for another 7 years! Their guns are massed produced pressed junk and plastic now. What a shame when I look at my 1968 Mod 700 BDL.

Just heard from one of my Moose crew. He bought a Rem 700BDL Custom from Cabela's. When it arrived,it was one of the models that had a detachable mag,not the one shown on their website. He unboxed it and it was pretty as all get out,but,after he cleaned the packing crud from it and tried the action,it bound like a SOB. The detachable mag was really flimsy. He decided not to keep and sent it back requesting,specifically,that they send him the rifle pictured without the mag. Two weeks later,he received a letter from Cabela's stating the rifle he wanted was no longer available from Remington and they issued a refund. He was pretty disappointed,but,I guess now he knows why.

I think he can blame Cabelas for a good chunk of that. I had a muzzle loader ordered from them, fully paid and they called me to tell me that they will not be getting them in anymore, you are SOL. I had to argue to get a decent discount on a traditional muzzle loader to offset the massive deal I was suppose to get on the inline rifle.

Ruger buying Marlin is very good news,indeed. With their business accumen and high quality standards,if any company can salvage the Marlin brand,they certainly can.

Remington says they will re-launch the 870 and 700 before hunting season. Model 1100, Versamax and V3 to follow. No commitment to the 7600 & 750 yet.

The 760 and 7600 are good rifles. It would be a shame if they don’t bring it back.

Kind of surprises me that a scaled-back firm would plan to offer 3 semi-automatic shotguns in their line up.

That,too,might be a good sign they have their skilled people back. I can't see them doing a re-launch of their high-end products with new hires. That would be a recipe for disaster. They only have one chance to do it right or they're screwed forever.
