Almost ready for winter & hunting

So I had 3 new windows installed in the Spring and two more being installed in the late fall, I installed a new patio door last weekend.
My new heat pump system is suppose to be installed at the end of the month.

I manage to cut 15 face cords so far this summer so I have 30 out back and 10 by the carport in the wood shed (Wood pile can't fall over now:moose:). I also managed to cut another cord yesterday. Going to try and cut another 10 and sell 5.

Bought my wife 4 almost new used winter tires for the Kia on rims balanced for 150.00 today.

Picked up a second smaller freezer for 95 bucks just down the road only 5 cubic feet just in case my son and I get a deer. Pluse the other freezer is full and cannot fit any vegetable in it.

Cleaned the chimney for the wood stove in the house last week and cleaned the chimney in the workshop today.

Pretty much all I have left is clean the shop and clean the barn, bring down the snow blower and test it and test the generator.

Oh and still need to build our tree stands soon.

Hopefully this week I will go out put some apples out for the deer and put up the trail cameras.

So pretty much ready for hunting season. In fact I will be up at Bissett Creek camping Sept 18 which is when grouse and rabbit season opens and duck season I think is open as well.

I swore I was going to get the firewood split before Labour day GW...but like the past few years, I haven't even started yet. Way to hot and humid to do firewood this summer. At least the logs are dry and only needs to be blocked and split.

Congrats on being a good hard the working 'Ant' .....once again I'm like the 'Grasshopper', danced and played away the summer HaHa.

I have 25 face split already but another 15 still to be split but probably only 12 of that actually needs splitting. But I do hope to cut another 10 before deer season. I'm cutting on the farm that my boy works at. I cut one face a few days ago but that stuff was on the ground, each of the large dead trees are about 1+ face so I need to do is cut 10 trees. If I can get 10 more I will sell 5 off.
Just these days I am so lazy. I paid someone to install the windows but did the door myself.

Oh and the bike is running just have to put the plastic back on it and find a place to store it. Have to move a few things in the workshop first.

Going to pay the neighbours kid to vac up all the cob webs in the shop as well.

This winter I plan to rebuild a Honda genny 2200 that I found. It has spark but no carb, tank or air filter. I bought a carb for 15 bucks from Amazon I'll hook it up and see if I can get it running if it runs I'll buy the tank and air filter system, not sure what I need it for as I already have one but a spare is always good or I could sell it.

I have more wood put up then I’ll normally do 5 cord cut and stacked between trees in bush yet. Started using crates few years ago. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...ef2a48b25d.jpg

4 crates I have 8 In total there about a month a crate move one into carport empty it take out bush refill then set dry crate in carport but I have skidsteer. And lazy back other wood shed holds 5 bushcord+

Nice. I still have a 15 year old kid at home he loads the truck and unloads it. :moose:

Yep. Can't fall over that way. I envy you guys with all the ash you have down your way. All we have around here is white birch and poplar and birch of any size is really hard to come by.

Yes Ash, elm, maple and beech. But sure wish I could get a bunch of Iron wood. Had 1 cord once several years ago and burned extremely hot.

I don’t like beech I have a face cord of two year seasoned ironwood left great for when your sick tremendous heat output couple fair size logs to get to also.

I did cut up and split one popular just for the shop. Fast heat just long burning wood

Ash trees are falling over faster than you can keep up to it’s a shame. I likely have 60 bush cord of logs on the ground. They’ll rot before I’ll ever need or get to them

Yeah there is dead ash everywhere from the ash borer also a lot of dead elm (from elm disease caused by a beetle). I'm allowed to cut all the dead or dying trees I want, so free wood isn't a problem. My problem is getting my arse in gear these days. I already have a buyer for upwards of 10 face as a buddy of my wants it. But no Iron wood there is one large oak but I feel bad cutting it as not many oak around here and oak takes 2 years to season. Although if I come across any iron wood it is going and my farmer friends knows that, I wouldn't take it all thought. Just a couple. Lot's of nice Iron behind my house but I don't have permission there,but know the owner.

I need to teach my kid to cut.

Yes, you guys have nice selection of hardwoods, I'm 90% Jackpine and 10% Birch. That's what grows on my property. Windows and doors of the camp still end up being open at -35, lol.

I have the same problem with Ash... lots down but no big machine to haul it out with. Only good part is most of it is off the ground due to the way it fell over. Even have a big Beech that fell over roots and all ! Ironwood on property but only about 6 inch in diameter and I hate to cut a living tree. At least it's getting cooler out now and hopefully stays dry. Will put my Honda 500 ATV to work as a mule and skid 8 foot logs out.

The one thing the new property does not have, but has space for, is a wood stove. In a pinch I can repurpose the old stainless steel flue left behind from the conversion from oil to propane in the 5ft crawlspace, but it does not meet code clearances for a wood stove of 86" vertical. SHTF thought.

As soon as the garage is built, I will have wood stove (hopefully a Finlay cookstove), as heat and alternative cooking area for preserving. GW, I will take you up on the wood next season if I can't find a local source like you did.

Went to Triole in Orleans yesterday and bought the last Stihl MS170-I, with a 16" bar, case and kit, I could find in 100 miles..even chainsaws (Stihl), have shortages right now.

You can nice wood stoves on Kijijji pretty cheap.

Been running down the small overgrown fields with lawn tractor, knocked down all the ditches shrubbery, cleared out the 347ft driveway edges as well over the last 2 weeks. Brush hog is coming next to take down remaining 2.5 acres of 16 years of overgrowth on the farmland portion. Need that down so I can see the land lay for gardens. So far, slow steady work, building stationary shelving in basement crawl space 80ft so far. Sectioned off an area for reloading room and built walls, no just deciding on how I want reloading room flow layout. Replaced all outdoor plugs and lights, ordered a new dishwasher (the one that came with house died day 3), looks like the washer is done as well, repair coming to see if we need a new one.

Learned about pressure tank regulator switch (boom no water), and how clean contacts to get back into service, then ordered a new one from amazon. Sorting out the wiring job in basement and installing new circuits in crawlspace, fixing the lighting all strung through basement, installing secondary electrical system for Genset to run independently of house circuits (spend 3k on wire/panels and breakers so far), including a 120ft run of 10/3 for buried line to garage (buried in 2" PVC from house front.

Ordered all 10M rebar and wood for pad forms, pre ordered 10 yrds of gravel, 9 cubic meters of cement (full truck). Renting a BX 25 backhoe/loader combo once all materials are on site for form build, gravel dump, outhouse digging, regravel driveway, and smooth all ATV ruts in back of house. Got a former (concrete guy coming out to help with forms and set up for cement pad)

After brush hog is done, gotta take down all standing alders, not able by brush hog...

Hunting this year is only a hope...…, if any, it will be short trips to for quick hunts sadly. But, dream is moving forward and it is more important for 5 yr plan for farm.

I/We are tired, dirty and sore every night, loving it, feeling it and we both feel we have purpose now..instead of city rat-style living.

yup and FB marketplace all the time, including pipe...still trying to convince the wife to greenlight the Compact Tractor buy....., it will cost 1200 for 4 day rental and I can get a good used for 15-20K with some implements.

Just be careful with the bx 25. Keep loader low when turning mind the pinch points Don’t know what all your trying to do but full size hoe and good operator can do a lot for 1200 bucks

I started my wood early this year, probably too early..sweat my azz off. We head up to camp (wmu22) the week around thanksgiving. We just bird hunt now, it’s easy fun and good eating. The leaves are all of by then, but your almost guaranteed a quick snow storm:)

Trench 40ft @ 3ft deep 2" PVC and wire. Plus dig a 5ft outhouse hole and lastly spread remaining gravel from 10 yards (ordered for cement pad) in driveway. If I have time, I will run over the deep ruts left by ATV so I can run Lawn Tractor over those areas to flatten them.

I’m not sure what a BX25 is, but I suspect you’d do just as well with a 4 ton mini-excavator for less money

BX 25 is a sub compact tractor with loader and backhoe. Good for small jobs like this one. I am buying one, but not yet..still working the wife for approval..lol
