​browning dura-touch coating issue??

Has anybody had an issue with the dura-touch coating on any of their Browning rifles? I started noticing maybe 2 years ago at deer camp that the dura-touch coating started to feel tacky or sticky in a way but with only using that rifle a couple weeks each year and the fact that I have started to use my Tikka more and more because its a touch lighter I never really paid to much attention to it. Now that I'm starting to prep for this years rifle season I really notice this issue with this dura-touch coating.

Its pretty common. Don't own a Browning and don't plan to but I feel for the guys with this issue.

"I have an Xbolt 300WSM that has this problem, called Browning and they sent me a shipping label, shipped it off, and three weeks later, I had a new stock, no questions asked. I highly recommend giving them a call, they’ll take care of you."

Bowjob, what did you have to do to ship it to the states? Did they provide box, packing slip etc? Im assuming you shipped from Ontario, I would be sending from Windsor.

I've had my BPS rifled slug gun for over ten years and the dura coating is still the same as it was when i made the purchase. I noticed this complaint a few years back so I was a little concerned. I spoke to A browning rep at the sportsman show about this and he said people aren't careful with cleaning products such as gun oils and solvents. Well I guess I'm one of the lucky ones. Touch wood.

I know in my case that’s definitely not the cause, I take very good care of my firearms both out in the field and when cleaning. Mine is sticky from the butt of the stock all the way to the front on the stock. When I googled it the other night I came across countless complaints and issues and found out that there was a class action lawsuit with regards to the dura-touch issue. Sounds like Browning has admitted fault with this product and was court ordered to offer free repairs or replacement if repairs cannot be completed. I need to call in the next couple days and figure out my options as well as how it needs to be shipped to cross the border.

I had an a-bolt 223 wssm 15+ years ago. Bought new for $450. When I checked the serial number, turned out it was already 6 years old and sat in the box all that time in the back of the gun shop. It had the dura touch stock and felt rubbery and tacky when I bought it. I figured that was the way they were supposed to be. I have a winchester SX-3 with the dura touch stock now and totally different feel. Never kept the 223 long anyway as it didn't shoot great and was difficult to eject the empty brass due to an increase in pressure.

This is a browning problem. Any case I've heard of Browning takes care of it. Don't expect it to be quick, Canadians are about the last nation that gun manufacturers give a crop about.

My maxus duratouch still looks like the day I've bought it, hunted it 4-5 years now.

I have no doubt Browning will correct the issue I have, I’m more curious or unsure of the shipping process when sending a firearm across the border. Any paperwork I need to fill out or laws I have to abide by when doing so.

No need to ship to the states. Browning Canada in Quebec will take care of you. Look up there phone Number online, Browning Canada service. The dura-touch finish has been dropped from the Browning lineup for durability issues. Browning is replacing them for owners free of charge with the newer synthetic ones. Just call Browning Canada.

Update, Monday I received and email back from the Dura-touch website (USA) form I filled out. I was instructed to call Browning Canada since that was the country I reside in. On a side note I also emailed Browning Canada the same day with my issue and as of today still have not got any email response.(Saturday Sept 12). I called Browning Canada yesterday morning and explained my issue and the service representative took my info and emailed me a shipping label to send my rifle in to have the stock replaced. The lady I dealt with was very nice and helpful, and made the process easy. Now I just have to pack it up and send it. I neglected to ask how long it could take. Once I send it I will keep track of the timeline and report back how long the process took and maybe a couple pictures.

I have three Brownings with Dura Touch but two has already developed this issue would like to know how they fix it and how's the replacement?

I have 2 brownings with the issue. I sent an email to [email protected] on Nov 13th 2021 with a description of the issue, serial numbers and attached photos showing the 'melting' stocks on both gun and pics of the serial numbers. I received a email response Dec.1st 2021 asking for my mailing address. The new stocks arrived at my door on Jan.27th 2022.
Unfortunately, they are hard plastic cheap feeling stocks. Which is disappointing since the feel of the original duratouch stocks was one of the things that sold me on those models when I bought them.

Thanks for the info may have to email them. Have a Gold where the forearm and stock is getting quite gummy. Thought it was to get/keep a better grip on the thing. Will see if they send me a replace too.

I found out the hard way long ago during the Spring Bear hunt that bug spray containing Deet will make your gun stocks gummy.

This is how bad mine became. Touching the stock at all left the sticky coating on your hands. Like melting plastic. I tried a few different solvents to see if I could remove the entire coating myself but couldnt find anything that worked.

woah that does not look fun at all. i wouldnt be very happy about that either.

Just noticed my Sako A7 .308 softtech stock has become tacky. It doesn't melt to the extent of yours Lowbanks, But if it gets any worse I don't know if I could use it. Gun is atleast 10 years old but only used once. Wonder if I have warranty or not....

There is a current thread on gunnutz about the same problem with the A7. Sounds like dealing with Stoeger isn't as easy as dealing with Browning. My A7 is a roughtech pro that has a Bell and Carlson stock so I may have avoided this issue.
