Annual Flu Shots Now Available

I get one every year because I work with Elderly people and want to make sure I don't get sick and pass it on..I got on last week.


I saw these stats on the news this morning...

I wonder when they develop Covid vaccine if they will have a similarly low participation rate....or will they make it mandatory.

My in-laws are waiting for the vaccine they think it's the only way they will be safe from covid.

I do get the flu shot, heck technically I already paid for it. I also plan to get the shingles vaccine. My father got shingles and it can do some nasty stuff to you. Dad's wasn't to bad but he did suffer some nerve damage in his hands. A woman I worked with in Russell she got shingles and she died because of other complications it caused.

I will get the covid vaccine if we even find one. Based on current information at best it will be available in late spring, but Canada has last dibs on it so it might be Summer. The first batches will be for the most at risk. I think I will wait and be the last group. Kinda let everyone else be the guinea pigs. So the earliest I will be taking it will be sometime in 2022 or later.

I do not get a flu shot because I have not been sick in the last 6 years. I am not at risk and have no one in my immediate family that is at risk. I am not opposed to it - if I was at risk or elderly I would get it in a heart beat. When a COVID vaccine becomes available I will definitely be lining up for a shot.

I haven't had the flu in 18 years, but I still remember what it was like. The flu shot is considered 40% effective at the best of times assuming they guess right as to which virus will be going around. But even if it is 10% maybe it will give me an edge.
I don't always get it some years I do forget, but in general I do get it.

I have read how some people think the government is using vaccines to control people but if that was the case, crap they really need to go back to the drawing board because it definitely is not controlling the population.

The shingles vaccine appears to be quite effective 90%.

Like I said I will get the covid shot if they do pass some but I will wait until last, these things do get modified as time goes on.

Before now it wasn't even ever allowed to have that kind of vaccine. Having never vaccinated humans from a coronavirus before, it's still a global experiment. Especially so if late stage trials are skipped in order to get it rolled out.

Actually they are not being skipped, shorten a bit and as the small trials are partway through the next trials have been started.

But as I said I will still wait until the end. Most of us will have to wait anyways as there will be a limited supply at first and Canada was pretty much the last to sign with any company. It will be late 2021 before the vaccine is available at best and 2022 before everyone gets the vaccine.

Yeh your on the right track my family Doctor a pretty smart cookie and researcher does not recommend the flu shot, except for very elderly people who are immunocompromised. From my short conversations with her she states that affects on the body are unknown and that the strains of flu that change every year are ahead of the vaccines.So even at 65 years old,having recovered from cancer and being immunocompromised she does not recommend it for me.Now in another 10 years she will probably recommend it as the benefits then might outweigh the risks.

My post wasn't exactly accurate, but I think it's safe to say there's tremendous pressure to get this done quickly. We all know how rushed jobs can turn out.

You do know that the flu is different every years,by the time they figure out what strain is around you may already have been given a shot.
They do not have a crystal ball and know what is going to pop up.

No different from Covid 19,they might develop a vaccine tomorrow and a virus mutates and that vaccine will not be affective.

If you get Covid 19 and recover from it your not suddenly immune you can get a new strain and your out of luck again.

I think that's the norm within the healthcare industry GW. The majority of Dr's I've heard of, including the ones at our medical centre and ones like my Dads who refused to take on patients that didn't get a flu shot. His actually told him she would fire him as her patient if he didn't get a shot..and he was relatively healthy.

All virus could mutate so should we stop giving all the vaccines that people get as kids?

Your right about the flu there are many strains I believe they generally create the shot using what they believe to be the 3 most likely flu virus each season. Based on what I read at the very best of times it is 40% effective but like I said at even 10% it is still better then nothing.

I'm healthy as well but as you get older your body does become weaker and weaker.

To each their own GW, I have had shingles twice now and basically my own immune system took care of it,not pleasant but I,am still here. You have to weight up the odd's and decide if a 10% outcome,outweighs any danger posed to your body by taking the shot.If your a life time smoker and might get pneumonia as an after affect of influenza it might be worth the risk.I run,eat good food,don't smoke and drink alcohol modestly.

Well you'll have to excuse me if I don't believe so called fact checkers, facebook is full of them trying to dispute many of the facts that are out there relating to many things. Funny how they all suddenly showed up when the truth starts coming out. Many of these fact checkers have also been proven to be totally false paid off sites by social media looking to sway public perceptions and when they quote the WHO which has flip flopped on so many things related to covid I'm even less likely to believe them. For now I'm quite happy relying on my own immune system, I picked the H1N1 bug in 2009 and haven't been sick since, not even a cold whereas my wife gets one or two bad ones each year. Like I said earlier, if they can actually develop a vaccine for Covid19 why haven't they done the same for the common cold. I don't trust them one bit.

No thanks, I will take my chances and use common sense myself to stay safe. If the same people telling us we need to wear masks to be safe are the same people telling us we need to take a vaccine when one made available, I don't trust them, not one bit. The only thing a fast track vaccine will cure you of is fear itself...lol

They actually study what goes on in Australia (and other Eastern countries) during their winter months. The success rate of following what happens there and using that to determine what will happen here is pretty good. And if they miss, the vaccine you do get, is still a variant of the strain so you get some protection. They've proven the flu won't hit you as hard.

As for the rest skeptics, that's OK, just as long as your the only one affected by your decision. Been there done that, but now I won't take a chance at letting myself get sick and infecting those I socialize with. Don't want any of them to end up in a hospital or worse for something I can do that is free, no effort and safe.

The vaccine for Shingles is considered 90% effective.

Did your kid's get all their shots when they were kid's?

They are pretty sure it is not connected but they have stopped to make sure. This can happen with any new drugs.

Can I assume everyone on here who is against vaccines also refuses to take any medicines such as pills for Chlorestrol, Diabetes or anything else?

If you do take them or any medicines then why? Also if you did have a heart attack, I guess you would refuse to go to a hospital as you feel they are all quacks.

Did your kids all get vaccinated and your grand kids?

Definitely a good idea...I got the shingles and pneumococcus vaccines after I turned 60..just makes sense. I've seen what shingles does...not going to happen if I have options to prevent it.

I went last week. Had to go to 2 SDM ,as the first one said a 2 hour wait. I would not wait, I went to the the next one ,I was in and out in 15 minutes.

Well I know I will likely get the flue shot first chance I can, my Doctor is absolutely recommending it this year (unlike other years) and given his comments on the LIbErals in the past, he seems to like reality so I would trust him!

I'm no anti-vaccer at all. Yes I sure do use drugs medication for better quality of life. I'm sure there will many vaccines to pick from, the first choices will prolly come from China. If I've already had Covid and not so afraid of it, why the hell would I take a vaccine thats been fast tracked to approval? Maybe I just wear a mask instead because thats whats keeping us safe now..lol

Just thinking of trustworthiness.... based on the evidence there are some far less trustworthy. No GW I am not an anti vaxer, I take the advice from my very good family Doctor and she has already done her research.The vaccines my children received were I believe mandatory to allow them to go to school at the time.

I hope you know GW that you are taking a flu vaccine into your body by an injection,thereby defeating some of your own bodies defence systems and then your own immune system goes into action against what you just had injected into your body.
