Old people

Well both my parents just turned 74 last month and this month. Tried to call Mom on her birthday and no answer, had to call the next morning to wish her a Happy Birthday and I sent flowers the day before. Tried to call the old man tonight at home as I had a question about taxes (Yup I don't know everything) and no answer.

Holy crap where are they? Their old like where can they go? Starting to think we should round up old people and put them
on an island so they can be managed. I'm thinking I'm going to have to put them on a short leash so I know where they are.

Why do we even allow old people to go out? They should be kept in their condos or old age home so we can keep track of them.:scream::joker:

Nice try but us old people are out there doing what we always did, except going to work.

My old man is 89 and pre-covid was out curling twice a week followed by whiskey with the boys. Moved to town about 5 years ago but still goes to the farm every day to piss around on the tractor or monkey around in the barn as well. Mom is 84 and still does all her own housekeeping and grocery shopping and shops for some of her friends who are shut-ins. She has slowed down the last 2 week as she bruised 2 ribs when she lost her balance and fell off a stool changing light bulbs in some of the ceiling pot lights. They both still drive as well.

Right on! My dad was 88 and mom was 90 living in an old farm house in Dunvegan, Cape Breton a few years ago. They're gone now though. They lived to the fullest without any intervention by the kids, and they enjoyed life with their chickens, ducks and trout pond. If we had pulled them out of there 10 years ago, and put them in "a home", they would have died unhappy.

Dad still drives and just bought a new van, my mom had a stroke 10 years ago and can only use her left hand.

they seem in better shape than my dad LOL

Dad is 80 mom is 78.....both are doing well and hope that continues for a very long time..... I am going to miss them when they are gone..... :(

My dad's 75. And still refuses help with pretty much anything. Stays active on the homestead, to say the least...

Yeah I haven't seen my parents in 2 years and haven't visited in 5 years. Last year we flew my youngest down to visit.
If things clear up by Easter I might go down to see them, will depend on if my contract is renewed at Xmas.

Just heard from the old man minutes ago. So I told him their to old to be going out.
Also had to check with him if he thought I could claim my new heating system on my taxes, which is why I was trying to call him.
I work as a sole proprietorship and he said I can. I trust him knowing this information since he is the top qualified person in NB to audit
the real estate companies.

Anyways he said I can.

Not sure what I will do when they are gone some day. I still call them for everything since I don't bother writing stuff down. Still call mom when I want to cook one of her recipes and still call my dad for retirement information. We were brought up to be close to family and are still expected to call at minimum every couple of weeks if us kids don't call they call us.

I even let them know when I'm going up North in case they need to get a hold of me, we have always been very close family. I hear from my siblings by text or phone every month. When my grandmother was still alive I spoke to her once a week to see how she was doing.

at least the ladder isnt on the bucket of the tractor!

Was up to my uncles place (75 years young) and he and his brother (my father 69yy) on the long weekend of September, put me and my brothers (early 40s) in bed in the late wee hours of the morning and still had "one more" after we went to bed. I am not sure where they go the energy for that!

Well you know it was her birthday and well some time is always nice on your birthday...😉.

You know there is double or triple the rate of STD's in retirement homes then in the general population... That don't happen cause they are playing cribbage..😳

My Mom is BTW 95,and she still takes care of herself,the house ,and goes to the corner store and church(weather permitting).

Job well done all around!

I fished til dark last night and today shovelled a pile of gravel in the back of the truck to level parts of the driveway into camp. You wouldn't have gotten me on the phone either. I'm 75 tomorrow....if I make it.

Atta boy,sawbill. I still fish,hunt,camp out overnight while hunting,keep active,mountain bike,exercise regularly and enjoy very good health at 70. I've been retired 7 years. Every day is Saturday except Sunday. I believe we're only going this way,once,so,give 'er.

But Technically being over 55 is pretty much like quite old.

I figure I'll finally accept that I'm technically "old" when stuff starts falling out of me and I start soiling myself. Wait a minute....that ain't good logic.....passing out drunk in high school and waking up in the shower covered in mud .........diarrhea in the tree stand back in my 20's....trying to squeak out some seemingly innocent gas in the plumbing store back in my forties , etc, etc. I better rethink this one.

Don't forget old people are way more dangerous then you think.

The older we get the less life in prison is a deterrent. Free food, free health care, free maid service, free laundry service.

For the one that is about to say "But you have no freedom, your locked up 24/7."

I ask....You ever been to a retirement home?

Never forget.....you start in diapers and finish in diapers.....
