Snowbirds wanting to head South

The was a quick mention of this topic on one of the threads, but got lost in the other nonsense, so seeing this article in the news I figured it might be of interest to some.

The border remains open to commerce, meaning companies like Transport KMC can use their commercial licences to bring Canadian vehicles Stateside.

The land border restrictions have meant good business for Ron Ohayon’s Toronto-based Snowbirds Auto Connection, which has been picking up new clientele this fall.

“We do have a whole bunch of new customers that normally used to drive their cars down, and now we’re trucking it down there for them and they’re flying in to Florida,” he told CTVNews.ca over the phone on Thursday.

The government can't force people to remain in the country. It can and does however impose a two-week quarantine upon your return with hefty fines if you do not comply.

Yeah they must be crazy [emoji23] .

I heard one guy say in the new that he has been going for 35 years and is not about to stop going.

In other news I heard that Brampton is worse off then parts of the USA. So it can't really be that bad how can Brampton be worse off will all the strict restrictions.

Might be a better chance of falling on the ice and then catching Covid in the ER here than getting Covid in a trailer court if Fort Lauderdale. :)

You are probably right but I would rather take my chances here as opposed to getting covid in another country. Just have to keep a tight grip on the snowblower this winter lol.

My sentiments exactly. For a snowbird to get sick with Covid-19 down there and be in the hospital for a month,even with private insurance,the residual costs not covered will wipe them out financially.

Below is a link to a comparison of Canada and the U.S. on COVID. The two most popular U.S. snowbird states are Arizona and Florida and as of today they rank 32th and 38th respectively in new cases. Meanwhile, if Ontario were an American state it would be in 50th place just ahead of Hawaii. Florida is showing over three times the number of new cases a day compared to Ontario.

Then there is the prospect of whether you can get insurance to cover the cost of the for-profit U.S. health system and an ICU stay with a ventilator south of the border will run you in the tens of thousands.

Then you look at Brampton that has a positive rates of 19 %. No difference between Brampton or Florida.

But if you get sick over the boarder and require the hospital like said it will be very costly.

Probably better off here chance the snow .

With all these snowbirds staying put we are going to see an increase in traffic accidents when the snow flys.
They have avoided the slick Rds for decades lol.

You do know that is just because they're now only testing people with symptoms....the percentage of the population that is getting sick is still only around 2% in most areas.

My inlaws own a property in a gated Florida community, and drive down every year the day after American thanksgiving, and stay for 5 months, but not this year. The issue is in getting full insurance coverage that covers Covid-19, and the fact my father in-law just under went cancer treatment. The insurance companies they deal with want them sign to waivers that would exclude coverage for these two circumstances. They will not travel to the USA for an extended stay without full coverage, as they have seen first hand from others in their Florida community the medical bills paid out of pocket for medical treatments when not fully insured

Yes I know I just stating what the news said hahah.

It's like a guy who said to stop calling york region a hot spot . If you look at the numbers York is worse than Toronto but many believe Toronto is worse because they have more cases than York. [emoji106]


Many just see the 500 cases in Toronto to York's 150 cases per day.

Because York hasn't seen over 200 cases a day makes them believe Toronto is worse with 500 a day. Believe what you want York is worse than Toronto and peel is the epicenter. [emoji57]

Heard on the radio that 30% of snow birds are going to winter in the states. They say they'll be healthier there than here. I knew a fellow that died from covid in Florida in March. His wife got sick as well, but luckily recovered.

Birds gotta fly.

While I’m still to young to be a snow bird I’m missing being in buffalo for games.

Boss offered to let me use the truck( big one), and flat bed trailer( I have a shipping container) to get across Quebec and into the Maritime for Christmas. The I could take my pickup, my niece's stuff she left, and still bring home all the stuff my dad gives me.

She left furniture, appliances and boxes and boxes of clothes...:rolleyes:

I say let 'em go. But I do not want to hear about any consequences of that decision - sickness, deaths, additional costs or medical costs. That is.....and should be all on them.
