This mornings Coyote Set Up

Went this morning wind was right, cool and bright. Started with cotton tail scream for 5 minutes and then coy pups. Nothing came in after 39 minutes with caller. Packed up and move to another open field, on the way out on same track plan, sure enough a new tracks in path I snowshoed in by. The coyote came in from behind me downwind. Never heard or seen him though..what a rush when you figure they were behind you about 50ft... Must had made me and took off in the direction I was heading anyways. At least something finally, still have to see and then make the shot...... Ffrigging cold after second stand which was busted by a couple of cross country skiers, about 300M off the main trail were I was.

Given enough time they always circle downwind.
Bet that got your blood pumping after sitting in the cold!

It definitely made the hairs stand up on the neck...then the darting eyes, cause I didn't feel alone anymore....hunted being hunted feeling.

Impact, just read that post and now wonder how many times that has happened. Chills... Very light breeze in AM.

My wife is a CPA and so is her sister that works for the CRA and does field audits. What are the odds that she will be doing the visit....lol

So where were you in relationship to your caller and what direction where you facing?

It happens to us all, always watch your back...

Fratri, I was facing the caller and wind was coming over my left shoulder and fogging my glasses when I turned my head each time to look in that direction.. Snowshoe tracks out to caller was direction I was facing. I was upwind and he came in from behind. The trail showed him moving away from me...did I get it wrong. Certainly was exciting though.....

Edit...the wind dirction is wrong in picture, it was very light <5km

I have been running into the same issue. I didn't go out yesterday morning. It was just too cold. After the snow stopped yesterday afternoon I went out with snowshoes to look for track. From what I am seeing of this pair that I have been chasing since 8 Dec is they have established at least two routes into the areas they hunt and take a separate trail when they head back to the den. It is interesting to see how they naturally change up their route.
I know from last week that I was in the same scenario. I had set up a hide near the edge of a copse of trees with the caller 150 yds upwind. Sure enough they simply took a trail around the field out of sight from me.
Going to change locations and try to get a tree stand up
BTW have the same sled...

Love my sled, carry overnight gear...just in case, 24 hrs of rations, coffee, water and small bottle of warm me up if needed to disinfect cuts.....

I wish I could get my furthest tree stand out deep in the MB, but need a sled this time of year. Tons of track and scat in the deer season.
