The trick is to keep the marginal mediocre parties from descending into radicalism and destroying your country.
If a tree falls on your ex in the woods and nobody hears it,you should probably still get rid of your chainsaw. Just sayin'....

Trudeau has done an excellent job at destroying our country, and he has much more to do yet.

I don't think there is any more radicalism party then the Turd Reich.

He does seem to be using every opportunity and chance to do damage and spin things, I saw he mentioned an election again... guess he thinks he can get a majority ... seems like he is trying to create even more crises to take more freedoms and create his favourite government.

Reminds me of something in preface of The Gulag Archipelago by Solzhenitsyn ... even with the current gov't in power it is required reading in school .... I wish it was here. Maybe I will add a topic on suggested required reading one day. I may have to think about that.

Back on topic, the Libertarians would do a much better job than the current lot and probably even better than the current Conservatives there are a few points I would never vote for them and you have to vote where there is an opportunity to get as close to your ideal, Libs and NDP... ethics, spending, corruption, SNC... farthest from what I would want of parties that can get in power... Communist isn't much farther left but is unlikely. In the better direction is the Conservatives even with the current leadership.

I was working in a MB Hydro Electric project up on the Churchill River back in 74 with my cousin who was a History major. He had the "Gulag Archipelago' series on this book shelve. Due to the long winter and virtually no TV, I had an opportunity to at least peruse them. I can't say I 'read' them, I was too young at the time to fully understand what I was reading and it's significance, I got enough out of them to understand what atrocities man was capable of.

Years later saw a filmed documentary on the Camps and got an even better picture. Your right though, it should be required reading.

I would add Ordinary Men, I haven't read it yet and it sounds in the same "what man is capable of" category, the unicorns and rainbows utopia worlders need to realize the realities, then we can start to make progress. To paraphrase Jordan Peterson if a man doesn't realize there is evil and what men are capable of then they can't understand what is needed to live as a civilization.

Both federally and Provincially the end goal of Libertarians is self directed choices with your own funds. They recognize that, this won't be a switch overnight, and it will begin with taxation being kept in place to 1.) help pay off the deficits, 2.) severely reduce government, 3.) open up markets by deregulating industry (and all the subsidies), 4.) providing total control over current tax dollars choice in services they wish to receive, 5.) Flat taxes (go hand in hand reduction in government, and reduce corporate taxes to next to nothing to ensure job creators (business), choose to locate in Canada. Ideally over time and will a majority amend the Constitution to return property rights, self defence, defence of property, free speech to Canadians. This would include reforming the justice to ensure rights (property/person) are respected, which would lead to less police presence, less jail time, less state, beginning with decriminalizing all drugs, and providing support to mental health and drug addictions.

IT is not a perfect party and platforms differ at both the provincial level and federal levels, but both levels believe in property/person rights over any state intervention solutions - people always do better at looking after themselves better then the state.

For the Ontario Party we are gearing up for candidate selection now (I am running in SDG) for 2022 and tweaking the 2018 platform for release.

I am considering letting my membership to the Con party go. And joining the Libertarian. Possibly even running.

My “problem”, being more of a centrist, is somethings are a little too extreme for me.

The early years on tours in Bosnia including the first tour - was all I needed to see first hand how man's ability (overnight), to be inhumane to fellow mankind (peoplekind for FC), and it was never the fellow soldiers (death and cruelty was expected) - it was the women and children who bore the brunt of inhumanity.

The Libertarian Party serves an important political purpose in Canada. It give bigots, phony ideologues, conspiracy kooks and other emotionally and intellectually-stunted undesirables a place to go after they throw a hissy fit and stomp out in a huff from the CPC. The Peoples Party of Canada serves a similar purpose. Thankfully neither stand a hope in hell of getting an MP elected much less form a government.

Typical Libertarian behavior. If silly stunts and being politically inconsequential and meaningless are what you are looking for it's the party for you. But if that's what you aspire to the Rhinoceros Party would be a better choice but membership in it generally requires a sense of humour and that is most definitely a quality absent in most Libertarians.
