Ontario Gun Auctions
A relative of mine is facing some serious mobility issues and has asked me to help him sell his gun collection. In normal times I'd set up a table at a gun show and spend a Sunday morning happily wheeling and dealing. Consigning at a store is not an option as his preference is fast payment so a gun auction is the only practical alternative.
I have used Landesborough Auctions in Burford and have no complaints but was curious about other gun auction companies in Ontario, specifically Kidd Family Auction in Creemore, GTA Guns and Gear Auctions in Newmarket and Switzer Auctions in Bancroft. Any comments on them pro or con, other auction houses available, recommendations, etc. from people who've done business with them either buying or selling?

I've purchased from Switzer's via icollector.com. Descriptions were accurate and no issues or delay in getting the transfer completed and item shipped out.
No idea how they are for paying you.
Have you thought about using gunpost? I've been buying and selling there. Most people who report problems post wanted ads and scammers seem to target them. Would save the commission fee via the auction.

I've not sold on Gunpost and while the collection is not that large selling them piecemeal online would be a time consuming undertaking for all concerned.
There is also not anything of huge value in the collection otherwise I would not go through an auction as I've found higher-end guns tend to go very cheaply at auctions.

Switzers has a good reputation from guys I know. We are buyers not sellers though. Why not post some here and see if you can save the commission?

Kidd Family auctions has a commission rate of 5%, less than half that of the other auctions houses. They are looking for guns for their February Straight Shooter gun auction mid February. While I have not had them sell anything for me, the owner Dennis has been great to deal with over the years.

Denis is a nice fellow. The 5 percent is only buyer premium. Seller premium was 25-35 percent depending on what the item is.

Depending on the collection you could get rid of them quick.
Take the value that he would sell it through an auction site, then knock 15% off it (half the sellers premium) and put it up here and on CGN. When guns are a good price they do not take long to sell.
That being said, I don't know if the "collection" is 5 guns or 50 guns.

There are ads on Gunpost looking to buy collections as well. Might be worthwhile to reach out and see if they are interested in doing a large buy.
