Moose quotas
Hi, All!
There is a very long thread about moose points, but I’m more interested if we could expect any info about quotas and the anticipated amount of hunters for a specific WMU.
As I understand, for the first year such data is not available in detail, but still some prediction could be done.
For example, if we know how many hunters (including all parties and individuals) applied for a specific WMU in the last year for bull and cow tags we could estimate that approximately this amount (probably just slightly more) hunters were hunting in this WMU in total (assuming that almost every hunter who bought a license applied for the bull or cow tag as well).
Now, if we know the quotas for specific tags (bull, cow and calf) in this WMU and also distribution of amounts of points in general, then everyone could estimate where he is and where more chances to apply and if there are any chances to get a bull tag in a specific WMU.
Also, if I understand it correctly, there is just one pool of points for all three tags. So, for example, if I get a bull tag this year, my points for calf will be reset to zero next year. And vise versa. Correct?

Yes any tag in the first draw will result in your points being reset to zero,
Last year quotas will be awfully close to this years so you can ball park it,
new tags be out in another month.

There were no quotas for calf in the last year. That's why it would be very helpful if MNR give us an idea on the total quotas (bull, cow, calf) for this year.

sorry didnt know you were meaning calf's,
I am going to bet it will be awfully easy to draw a calf tag.
could be wrong but no one I know is wasting any points on a calf

Thanks!
Could you also clarify... There will be three types of tags: bull, cow/calf and calf. Correct? Meaning that cow/calf always go together? Or I'm wrong?

the cow/calf tag is like a whitetail doe tag can shoot 1 anterless deer.
so that tag can be used for a cow or a calf isnt 2 tags.
My guess it to help prevent people that shoot cows with calfs. maybe they will shoot the calf instead or the cow,

No, seems like I was right, there are three types of tags:
https://www.ontario.ca/page/moose-management-review
Tag types will be:
bull tags valid only for harvest of a bull moose
cow/calf tags valid for either a cow or a calf moose
calf tags valid only for the harvest of a calf moose

I'm not sure if we are talking about the same.
What I mean is that there is a tag for cow/calf and the tag for calf only.
