Smoking while hunting
whats everyone opinion on smoking while hunting ?
not just turkey, how about when sitting for deer, bear, or even waterfowl ?
im New to big game hunting, but from my experience with small game and birds, they dont see nor care for smoke, maybe it even helps mask my scent ?

The biggest curse of smoking while hunting is the movement associated with it.
The smoke itself - not an issue for birds, and for other game - it's no worse than the rest of the human smell you're putting into the air.
If the wind isn't in your favour - they'll smell you and your smoke - not sure that the smoke makes a difference. If the wind is in your favour, it's no harm / no foul.
...and that "mask your scent..." thing - scent doesn't work that way with animals. Only human noses can be fooled that easily.

When smoking was popular decades ago many deer fell to a smokers bullet.
Wind in your favour and minimal movement is the key. Zero movement if the game is staring at you.

Ya, the smoke is not the issue, if it smells the smoke, it smells you.... Movement is the issue...

It defintely doesn't matter, The guys I know that have shot many big bucks over the years smoke while on stand. As others have said, If they smell smoke they will smell you.
Just call it your wind checker if anyone your hunting with says anything haha.

Has too much time on their hands
My brother is the luckiest guy in our deer camp. His success stories start in one of two ways:
"Well, I just lit a smoke and..."
Or
"I had just finished a smoke when..."

I took quite a few big game animals before I quit smoking (15 years ago) and I've dropped quite a few since. I really doubt that it makes a difference other than I sure feel and can breath a lot better.
If a tree falls on your ex in the woods and nobody hears it,you should probably still get rid of your chainsaw. Just sayin'....

I hunt with guy in Michigan that smokes while turkey hunting (in a blind). It does not seem to bother the birds but his blind looks like a teepee complete with the smoke signals from a distance
