    They used to use alot of barges for moving goods around the great lakes, they would push like that one or pull them. Trains and trucks do most of that now. If you look at some of the detailed dive maps you will see barge alot of times. Right in Big Tub Harbour in Tobermory there are 4 tugs.

    Not a clue!

    The last time I saw a rig like that though it was doing some dredging, but it could be anything.

    That is the Tug Petite Forte pushing the barge St Mary's. They carry cement to various ports around the Great Lakes. You can google the name and see numerous images.

    As mentioned its a tug pushing one of St Mary's Cement barges. The tug fits into and opening in the back of the barge. Most likely load with cement from Bowmanville.
