We use same bait for both seasons.

    Dog food
    Popcorn
    Corn

    The usual scent stuff.

Agree that popcorn, corn and dog food work very well. I like to add some sweet flavouring to the mix.
Good strong call scent to bring them in.

I've been using corn (mix of cracked and whole) with used cooking oil, molasses, and grape jello mix. The grape smell is very strong.

Spring bears aren't picky. They wont leave unless the food runs out. I haven't managed to source a way to fill a barrel any cheaper than popcorn(depending on how much value you put on your time). I've got about 5-6 barrels popped now, for about $70. I'll add a mixture of jello powder/tang, white suger, & road salt. Sweet & salty.

My sites are fairly hard to get into so popcorn for me. Easy light and affordable. Seems to keep them coming in. I do add syrup the odd time and spray the area with vanilla when I start a bait site. Fryer oil if I have any
